I received a set of Hyaah products as part of a Stylekorean collaboration. After emptying Hyaah Synergy Mask Pad, the product I found myself reaching most was the HYAAH Licorice First Essence. 

Packaging, Scent and Texture

HYAAH Licorice First Essence comes in a 200ml bottle with a pointed nozzle, making it easy to control the amount dispensed despite its runny, watery texture. The lightweight consistency spreads effortlessly across the skin and absorbs quickly with a hint of tackiness. Scent-wise, it carries a subtle herbal fragrance, which feels calming and soothing during application, making it especially pleasant for daily use.

T'else Kombucha Teatox Essence is a first-step essence with Kombucha extract to hydrate and soften the skin texture. 

I purchased T'else Kombucha Teatox Essence together with Hyggee Vegan Sun Cream, Herbloom Calming Days Vegan Sunscreen, Skin1004 Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum, Foretderm Derma Relief Vegan Suncream and others, during a sale. The essence wasn't really in my list, as skincare essence isn't an essential for me in my skincare routine. 

A first step essence is a specific type of essence used immediately after cleansing—before toner, serum, or moisturizer. It’s designed to be the very first product that touches your skin post-cleanse, hence the name.

These essences are usually lightweight, watery in texture, and packed with fermented ingredients, hydrating agents, or skin-renewing actives. Their primary purpose is to balance the skin's pH, replenish moisture lost during cleansing, and enhance the effectiveness of the rest of your skincare routine by improving absorption.

First step essences are especially popular in Korean skincare routines, where skin prep is essential to achieving that healthy, radiant "glass skin" look. My last emptied essences were Caudalie Vinoperfect Concentrated Brightening Glycolic Essence and Rovectin Aqua Hyaluronic Essence.

And it's been over 5 years since I last used a Caudalie product, with my most recent ones being the Caudalie Moisturizing Toner and Caudalie Grape Water.

This is my 3rd product from the brand after emptying Barr Super Green Deep Energy Ampoule and Barr Super Green Deep Energy Cream. The ampoule didn't do much for me but the energy cream is one of my Top 22 Empties I Loved in 2022!

Barr Centella Calming Gel Essence comes in a sturdy 60ml plastic bottle with a treatment pump dispenser that is handy, portable and fuss-free. I love how easy it is for me just to lightly press on the dispenser twice for the amount I required for my face.

Manyo Galactomy Niacin 2.0 Essence was a Yesstyle influencer redemption and I was glad to have the chance to try it. Fermented ingredients tend to have a positive effect on my skin so I was optimistic about this product. My recent favourites were E Nature Rice Essential Tone-Starter and E Nature Bio-Zeup Sheet Mask.

Fermentation is a term we are all familiar with and in the skincare world, fermentation breaks down natural molecules and makes them smaller, so it’s easier for them to absorb deeper into your skin’s surface. 

In skincare, these smaller molecules become more potent and precise for optimal bioavailability, which allows ingredients to penetrate the skin deeper and absorb readily. With an increase in bioavailability and smaller molecule size, it is said that all the skincare ingredients used in fermented skincare and their benefits are significantly amplified.

I purchased 23.5°N Rice Soothing Active Set some time back which was meant as a 14 days sampler kit but the moisturizer was so tiny that lasted me for only 7 days. I have previously reviewed 23.5°N Bamboo Ultra Hydrating Gel Mask and 23.5°N' Red Pearl Barley Brightening Gel Mask which were pretty gentle products and great for sensitive skin.

Dedicated to natural ingredients, simple formula, and light textures, 23.5°N offers an irritation free, comfortable experience with the perfect balance of oil and water-based ingredients and a refreshing feeling in an everyday ritual.

Coxir reached out to me for a collaboration some time back. The brand prides itself on using mild, plant-based ingredients resulting in minimal but highly efficacious formulas that leave skin healthy and balanced. 

Having a solution for every skin type, the brand boasts a diverse range of affordable, high-quality skin care lines that target specific needs. All of Coxir’s products are 100% made in Korea, including its bestselling Black Snail Collagen Toner, Ultra Hyaluronic Ampoule and Vita C Bright Serum. 

Under the same manufacturer, Noksibcho, as Coxir, is The Skin House which carefully selects natural ingredients to ensure the high quality of its products. I received Coxir Ultra Hyaluronic Cleansing Oil, The Skin House Vita Snail First Essence, Xycos Cica Green Serum and The Skin House Vita Snail Cream. 

Coxir Ultra Hyaluronic Cleansing Oil contains the power of Hyaluronic Acid, Camellia Oil, Rose Hip Oil, Canola Oil and Aloe Vera to dissolve makeup and impurities while deeply hydrates the skin.

How To Use :

1) Dispense cleansing oil on dry palms

2) Gently spread and massage over dry face until oil changes from clear to white

3) Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry skin

Tip : Can be used as both first and second cleanser

The 150ml cleansing oil comes in a clear pump bottle with clear contents without much scent, which felt gentle and mild. Initially, I was worried that the runny texture may be too lightweight to be an effective make-up remover, as most cleansing oils in the market have a denser and greasy texture but I was surprised by its effectiveness. 

With 2 - 3 pumps, Coxir Ultra Hyaluronic Cleansing Oil cleanses off my sunscreen and light makeup easily, without any irritation to my eyes although some eyeliner remnants still require a cotton bud to cleanse off. 

The cleansing oil doesn't feel oily, greasy or sticky. It just emulsify with added water and take away all the makeup, leaving my skin clean, clear, soft and smooth without any drying after-feel. 

If you have oily skin and don't fancy oily texture, then you can consider trying Coxir Cleansing Oil. This fresh and moisturizing cleansing oil removes dirt from environment as well as blackheads and sebum inside pores.

There is no animal testing involved, no silicones, no parabens and no mineral oil in the formula. 

Overall, it had been a pleasant experience using Coxir Ultra Hyaluronic Cleansing Oil as a make-up remover. With almost 1 month of regular usage, I managed to deplete 50% of contents. It is also one of my Top 22 Empties I Loved in 2022!

However, the naming for each of the products were quite a mouthful and I get confused with the different ranges - hydration, brightening and anti-aging as the names sounded almost similar. I am glad to make the right choice in choosing this set. Lets delve down to see how this Hydration Trio Set works for me!

Product Description
Essence nourishing face complexion, light and gentle texture formula to control excess oil on the face and pores to look compact with the combination of two ingredients. Double Hyaluronic Acid ( Low Molecule Weight ) which penetrates into the skin, helping to retain natural moisture in the skin and large molecules ( High Molecule Weight ) which helps to obscure the top layer with Retinol Cyclosystem. Face complexion will be smoother and will also give off natural radiance when use consistently.

Sisterssingapore reached out to me recently and offered to send me Sisters By Pearry’s First care Essence which is made in Thailand and is very popular especially among teenagers. Being a skincare enthusiast, of course, I am certainly excited to try out this popular essence!

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Sisters By Pearry's First Care Essence comes in a glass bottle with a sturdy dropper dispenser. The bottle has a pearly sheen to it which gives off an elegant vibe, fitting to the term " First Care Essence". Suitable for all skin types, the product is also 3-free ( No alcohol / No paraben / No mineral oil ). 

Clear in colour, with a subtle floral scent, the essence is lightweight in texture and is non-greasy. It has a slight cooling sensation and is slightly sticky immediately after application which gets absorbed into skin after 5 minutes, leaving the skin smoother.

If you use alittle too much and as you try to massage into the skin, you would notice a milky consistency which sinks in after you massage it in. It happened when I use it on my decollete as I tend to get overzealous on a larger surface area. 

Performance and Ingredients

Said to tighten pores, reduce dark spots, improve acne scars, helps in oil-control and contains anti-aging benefits, Sisters By Pearry's First Care Essence does left the skin smoother and helps in controlling the oil on my T-zone. 

At 20ml, its a pretty small quantity and lasted me for about 3 weeks with twice daily usage so it can be a great size for those new to this product.

Please be careful while using the glass bottle as the external metal casing of the cap broke when I accidentally dropped it on the floor and can no longer be used. However, I am glad that its just the external casing as the internal plastic cap was still intact and the bottle did not break. 

Since incorporating the First Care Essence in my skincare routine, my skin has been so soft, supple and smooth with lesser shine on the T-zone. 

In terms of ingredients, the First Care Essence contains the following :

Sodium Hyaluronate : Enabling the skin to retain moisture for younger and smoother skin.

Acnet : Nordihydroguaiaretic Acid ( NDGA ) was teamed up with Oleanolic Acid as an acne treatment in a product called AC Net. Oleanolic Acid inhibits 5-A reductase to fight hyperseborrhea ( oily skin ), while the NDGA is a cell growth regulator that inhibits hyperkeratosis ( excessive build-up of skin cells on the surface of the skin ) and inflammation. The AC NET also helps to control bacterial growth. ( source )

Tea Tree Oil : A popular choice for treating acne because of its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Calm redness, swelling, and inflammation. 

Retinol : Helps unclog pores, exfoliate and smooth skin, reduces the appearance of pigmentation, improves skin hydration, treats acne and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

Conclusion

To conclude, Sisters By Pearry's First Care Essence is a gentle formula for hydrated and smoother skin with good oil control. It would be a great addition for those with oily or acne-prone skin.

Curél's new whitening skincare range for dry and sensitive skin was launched in September this year which is said to help in
1) gentle brightening of dark spots and freckles
2) suppressing melanin production
3) improving skin moisture level for clear and radiant skin.

I redeemed a complimentary Curel Whitening Moisture Series Trial Kit from their Facebook sampling ad which consists of Curel Whitening Lotion II 8ml, Whitening Moisture Essence 3ml and Whitening Moisture Face Milk 8ml, enabling me to use for about 5 days for the lotion, 6 days for the essence and slightly more than a week for the face milk, twice a day.

I really enjoyed such sampling kits for me to try out the texture of the products before investing in the full sizes. It helps one to make a more informed choice and reduce waste.

The floral scent is very strong and really take some time for one to get used to it. Biotherm has been my first love for many years and it has supported me during my worst times, however as age creeps up, its time to include other skincare benefits like anti-aging and brightening so its when I strayed to other brands. I still return to Biotherm occasionally because no one knows my skin, like Biotherm does but not every product in Biotherm is a hit, there were some misses too. 

Review : SK-II Stempower Essence

Product Description
SK-II revolutionary stempower essence is concocted with a new and powerful Stem-Acanax ES Complex that targets and transforms the regenerative functions of the skin's youth activity. It also contains Artichoke extract to slow down the signs of aging.

I purchased SK-II Stempower Essence as part of the Stempower Essence Kit which consists of the Facial Treatment Essence, Stempower Essence and the Signature 3D Defining Mask.

Texture is slightly thicker than SK-II FTE and Whitening Spots Specialist and feels more like a serum. I used this after the Whitening Spots Specialist so that I can incorporate both anti-aging and whitening benefits in a skincare regime.

The SK-II Stempower Essence is kept in an opaque bottle with a dropper to dispense the contents. Again, you can't really tell the remaining amount ( because of the heavy weight of the bottle ) and even though the whole packaging may seems hygienic but you have to consider the rubber top as a consideration because you will constantly touch it.

I see results after almost 2 months of usage, a gradual shift from dull to slightly fairer and radiant skin. Skin also feels smoother to the touch. I have strangers thinking I am still in school too. How laughable is that? Is that the magic touch of SK-II?

However, despite having Nacinamide in the list of ingredients, it does not provide the much hydration which my skin is always craving for, so a good hydrating moisturiser is definitely required.

Even though my skin feels softer, without any hint of dehydration but the essence seems to just sit on the surface of skin. After cleansing, my skin is back to its dehydrated state, so definitely there is a need to top it off with a moisturiser to seal in all the goodness.

While in the midst of preparing for my winter trip last December, Biotherm was my first choice for skin hydration. I turned to their moisturisers time and time again because it works for my skin type, despite the heavy fragrance which I dislike. While I used to be a big fan of their moisturisers, I have since cut down considerably on the usage, due to the inclusion of heavy fragrances. However, when the need arises, such as winter weather, I know that I can still rely on them.

There was a promotion on their latest essence - Biotherm Life Plankton Essence so I purchased both the essence and the moisturiser and pair up both of them, together with a complimentary serum sample and all work beautifully on my skin, without any flakiness during my 10D China trip.

Biotherm Life Plankton Essence is an essence meant to be used after the toner and before the serum. I usually skip the toner and use the essence directly after cleansing, because I don't like to layer too many products on my skin, if possible. So with cleanser, essence, serum and the moisturizer, I think it works fairly well enough for my skin type.

Said to improve the skin's condition in 8 days, in terms of hydration, texture, fine lines, radiance and resilience, it certainly sounds promising, however, I am usually only focused on hydration where Biotherm products are concerned, because that is what they do best. The rest of the so-called benefits are secondary to me.

Contained in a bulky glass bottle, it is definitely not travel and user-friendly. I was so afraid it broke, and I wrapped it with some papers and stuffed it between my clothes in the luggage, thankfully it didn't break. Sample sachets are more useful on trips but unfortunately I didn't have the time to visit their counters then ( due to my sprained ankle and falling sick prior to the trip ).

Heavily fragranced, the essence is pretty runny ( with a cloudy colour ) which I usually pour into my palms and pat all over my face. My skin feels sticky yet fresh and comfortable, under the harsh winter weather. The hydration lasts only as long as the product is used. The stickiness disappears after following up with the serum and moisturizer. Personally I felt that that the essence works more effectively, together with the serum and moisturizer. Skin feels and looks smoother, softer, supple and hydrated.
With the essence alone, the benefits aren't that spectacular and isn't enough to achieve the hydration level required for my skin type and under the winter weather.
