[ Review ] 23.5°N Rice Soothing Active Set - Essence, Moisturizer, Mask

23.5°N Rice Soothing Active Set is formulated for irritated skin and consists of the following : 

1) Rice Soothing Active+ Essence 30ml : Slightly viscous essence comprised of 98.8% yeast extract that purifies and smooths skin.

2) Rice Soothing Active+ Moisturizer 10ml : Brightening moisturizer for sensitive skin to reveal a silky complexion.

3) Rice Soothing Active+ Gel Mask 20ml : Powerhouse gel formulated with ceramides, job's tears, and rice extracts to leave your skin glowing. Use as an intensive 20 minute wash off mask, leave on overnight, or use as a moisturizer.

4) Rice Soothing Active+ Ultra-Feather Mask : Lightweight sheet mask that soothes dull and irritated skin to reveal a brighter complexion.

I purchased 23.5°N Rice Soothing Active Set some time back which was meant as a 14 days sampler kit but the moisturizer was so tiny that lasted me for only 7 days. I have previously reviewed 23.5°N Bamboo Ultra Hydrating Gel Mask and 23.5°N' Red Pearl Barley Brightening Gel Mask which were pretty gentle products and great for sensitive skin.

Dedicated to natural ingredients, simple formula, and light textures, 23.5°N offers an irritation free, comfortable experience with the perfect balance of oil and water-based ingredients and a refreshing feeling in an everyday ritual.

Their products do not contain SLS, SLES, artificial coloring, fragrance, alcohol and parabens.

There are no animal ingredients and the brand is cruelty free.

23.5°N Rice Soothing Active+ Essence is a slightly viscous, but light essence comprised of 98.8% yeast extract that purifies and smoothens skin. This multi-functional treatment essence has a simple and clean formula packed with concentrated rice essence harvested from Taiwan, which is extracted in its purest form to maintain the efficacy of the nutrients.

Rich in antioxidants and amino acids, the fermented rice filtrate and extracts help to amplify skincare by delivering nutrients into skin more easily, as well as brighten, hydrate, strengthen and soothe skin.

How to Use: 

1) Apply to the cleansed face with a cotton pad or fingertips daily.

2) Gently massage until absorbed.

The 30ml essence that I owned comes with a small hole to flick the contents out. Clear and lightweight, the essence is very runny, scentless and feels more like a toner. I prefer to pour it on my palms rather than cotton pads to prevent wastage and its easy to layer a few rounds due to its lightweight consistency without greasiness. 

Said to intensely brighten and soothe dull skin to reveal a silk-texture complexion, I personally enjoyed using Rice Soothing Active+ Essence as it works great on irritated and reddened skin because of its gentle, calming and soothing properties. My skin is always left feeling baby soft and smooth once absorbed. 

That said, I didn't notice any brightening effects in the 1.5 weeks of usage, before it depleted.

23.5°N Rice Soothing Active+ Moisturizer is a lightweight gel-cream that utilises the goodness of concentrated rice extract farmed from local Taiwanese farms to hydrate and intensely brighten skin.

Rich in antioxidants and amino acids, the fermented rice extracts are produced in their purest form to maintain the efficacy of the nutrients, and help to amplify skincare by delivering nutrients into skin more easily, as well as intensely brighten and soothe skin. Key ingredients like Job's Tears extract, sodium hyaluronate, oat extract, wild yam extract and ceramides provide support to hydrate and strengthen skin barrier.

How To Use :

1) Apply to the clean skin after toner or serum.

2) Gently massage until fully absorbed.

The moisturizer from the 14 day trial set is so tiny at 10ml and barely last beyond a week. A more realistic size would be 20ml but I am still happy to be able to try their products in this set. 

A refreshing treat for dehydrated and oily skin, the scentless, non-sticky, lightweight gel texture of this Rice Moisturiser is perfect for use in both humid weather and chilly temperatures. 

I adore gel moisturizers because of my skin type under the humid weather in Singapore so 23.5°N Rice Soothing Active+ Moisturizer seems perfect for me. 

It is soothing, calming and so comforting but unfortunately, the hydration ability doesn't last beyond the following morning for my combination skin with dehydrated skin type. And at 10ml, it is difficult for me to see any brightening effects with 1 week use. 

Overall, Rice Soothing Active+ Moisturizer is a gentle and light formulation with soothing properties and just 7 ingredients so I believe it may suit sensitive and oily skin well.

23.5°N Rice Soothing Active+ Gel Mask is a lightweight, but powerhouse gel that soothes skin irritations and brighten skin. Formulated with ceramides, job's tears, and rice extracts to leave your skin glowing, it is an intensely brightening treatment that reduces redness and soothes skin.

How To Use : 

- To use as a wash off mask, apply a thin layer over the face and rinse off after 20 minutes.

- To use as a daily overnight moisturizer, apply a blueberry sized amount and massage into skin.

I have been adding more rinse-off mask in my routine for the past year, in a bid to reduce single-use sheet masks for sustainability reasons. 23.5°N Rice Soothing Active+ Gel Mask was such a gentle and nourishing mask for sensitive skin days whilst battling with redness. 

In a gel formula, it has a calming and soothing sensation upon application and can be such a refreshing treat after morning exercise on hot and humid days. It has no scent and absorbed pretty quickly into skin which worked great either as an overnight mask or as a thick rinse-off mask. 

My skin is always left soft, smooth and supple. Occasionally, if I apply the gel mask thickly, the brightening effect was almost instantaneous after rinsing off. 

And since the hydrating ability for the Rice Soothing Active+ Moisturizer can be alittle too light for my skin, I like to use this as a rinse-off mask for a deeper hydration before applying Rice Soothing Active+ Essence and Rice Soothing Active+ Moisturizer.

That said, I haven't tried this as an overnight mask as I don't like to layer too many products in such hot and humid weather like Singapore so I can't attest to its effectiveness. 

Overall, this worked great for hydration and soothing purposes and if you apply it thickly, you might see an instantaneous brightening effect too.

23.5°N's Rice Soothing Active + Ultra-Feather Mask is a lightweight sheet mask that soothes dull and irritated skin to reveal a brighter complexion. It is a brightening sheet mask that also reduces redness and irritation.

How To Use : 

1) Remove pearl-color sheet delicately after routine toner step.

2) Apply mask and peel off blue-color sheet upper side.

3) Remove mask after 15-20 minutes and gently massage leftover essence until fully absorbed. No water-rinsing required.

23.5°N's Rice Soothing Active + Ultra-Feather Mask is enveloped within 2 protective sheets -1 white plastic sheet and 1 sheer blue sheet in each packaging. 

The mask material is thin, soft and layers comfortably on skin. The cutting isn't perfect with larger eye cutouts and a gap between nose and cheeks but soft enough to adhere well. I didn't detect any scent though. 

There was a subtle brightening effect and redness around my nose was soothed though not gone. The hydration ability was poor as the roughness on the nose was still there, after 20 minutes of masking. 

Overall, with just 8 ingredients in the list, this is a gentle sheet mask for sensitive skin, providing one with a subtle brightening and soothing benefit.

Conclusion

To conclude, 23.5°N Rice Soothing Active Set with Rice Soothing Active+ Essence, Rice Soothing Active+ Moisturizer, Rice Soothing Active+ Gel Mask and Rice Soothing Active+ Ultra-Feather Mask are light and gentle formulas with short ingredient lists that may suit those with sensitive skin. 

I enjoyed using them on irritated skin days but might need more on normal days. The essence and gel mask always left my skin soft and smooth while the moisturiser and the sheet mask soothe and calm my skin. My skin looked healthier in the 2 weeks' time frame while using the kit. 

That said, the brightening effects for the gel mask occurred randomly, that is, if I applied thickly for 20 minutes, while for the sheet mask, it was pretty subtle and as for the essence, I have yet to experience it.
