Product Description
Barr Centella Calming Gel Essence is a slightly acidic gel essence designed to calm and soothe sensitive skin with 85% Centella Asiatica. This formula is supported with 0.3% Panthenol which is a pro-vitamin of Vitamin B5 to offer deep hydration while aiding in smoothing skin texture, leaving it soft and supple. Cruelty-free and vegan formula.
This is my 3rd product from the brand after emptying Barr Super Green Deep Energy Ampoule and Barr Super Green Deep Energy Cream. The ampoule didn't do much for me but the energy cream is one of my Top 22 Empties I Loved in 2022!
Packaging, Scent and Texture
Barr Centella Calming Gel Essence comes in a sturdy 60ml plastic bottle with a treatment pump dispenser that is handy, portable and fuss-free. I love how easy it is for me just to lightly press on the dispenser twice for the amount I required for my face.
It doesn't have much of a scent and the clear watery gel texture is cooling, calming and refreshing for use in Singapore's hot and humid weather. It absorbed pretty quickly into nothingness on the skin.
How To Use :
1) After toner, pump for 2-3 times to apply on the face and neck evenly and pat for further absorption.
2) When skin is extremely dry, apply 2 times of the Gel Essence and follow by the Centella Calming Barrier Cream as finishing.
Performance and Ingredients
The Barr Centella Calming Gel Essence is a watery gel-type essence to help soothe irritated and sensitive skin. Packed with 85% Centella Asiatica and 0.3% Panthenol to calm and deeply hydrate skin.
This hydrating essence also contains Houttuynia Cordata to soothe redness and acne-prone skin, while Jojoba Seed Oil helps control excess sebum secretion for healthier and calmer skin.
Initially, I wasn't sure how this gel essence fits into my routine as I was confused with the name - is it an essence or a moisturiser? After some reading up, and with the usage card from the founder ( won this product from their giveaway ), this is a moisturiser where you can top up with the barrier cream if you think the hydration is insufficient.
As the name implies, Barr Centella Calming Gel Essence is a gentle moisturiser in watery gel form, which is calming and refreshing, just perfect for Singapore's weather. It absorbed pretty quickly leaving just a hint of tackiness but I am not too overly concerned.
It pairs well with most products and left skin soft and smooth but I prefer to top up with Barr Centella Calming Barrier Cream for an additional layer of hydration. On its own, it isn't as hydrating as what my "combination skin with surface dehydration" type needs but I reckon it might work well for those with oily skin.
Centella Asiatica Leaf Water ( 856 000ppm ), Butylene Glycol, Water, 1,2-Hexanediol, Panthenol, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Adenosine, Polyglutamic Acid, Madecassoside, Asiaticoside, Ceramide NP, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Carbomer, Sodium Carbomer, C12-14 Pareth-12
To conclude, Barr Centella Calming Gel Essence is a watery gel textured moisturiser, suitable for summer. It works moderately well for me, leaving skin soft and smooth, however, it isn't as hydrating as what my skin needs, so the barrier cream is much needed.
I really like its sturdy packaging and hope that more skincare products can come in such handy and fuss-free applicator to pump out just enough contents for use.
