Pyuru Rishiri Color Shampoo Review

Product Description
Now dye your hair with shampoo! You can now wash + dye with only 1 bottle!

Rishiri color shampoo [for gray hair] with a new concept of "washing" + "dying" with shampoo. Just by replacing your usual shampoo with Rishiri Color Shampoo, your gray hair will gradually become less noticeable, which is very easy. By using it as a set with "Rishiri Color Care Conditioner" for color shampoo, the color will last longer and your hair will look even more shiny and youthful.

Ever since I started working, my grey hairs have been increasing, and now I need to color my hair every 4-6 weeks. My peers are experiencing the same thing. However, I still have a few friends my age who only color their hair when they feel like it, as their greys are sparse and infrequent. Lucky them!

So when I chanced upon these color shampoos that claim to be a fuss-free way to make your greys less noticeable, I leaped at the chance and purchased 2 bottles during a sale.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Rishiri Color Shampoo is housed in a 200ml green opaque bottle with a flick top cap. Even though I chose dark brown, the colour appeared to be almost black so it was the right choice to choose dark brown since black colour can be too dark on mine.

There is not much of a scent and the consistency felt more like a thick concentrated kind of shampoo contents.

How To Use :
1. [Preparation] Color transfer may occur if shampoo or foam adheres to the bathroom during use. Before use, wetting the bathtub, floor, walls, shower hose, etc. in the bathroom with hot or cold water will make it easier to remove the color.
2. [Take it out with wet hands! ] Just like regular shampoo, after wetting your hair, take it out with wet hands. We recommend using a large amount to improve lathering and achieve a more effective finish.
*If used with dry hands, it may stain your hands and nails. If you are doing nail art, have long nails, or are concerned about getting dirty, it may be helpful to bring gloves.
*Please shake the container slightly before use.

3. [Washing] Gently wash your entire hair with plenty of foam.
Apply color shampoo directly to your hair without adding water. Lather thoroughly and remove dirt from your hair and scalp.

4. [Rinse thoroughly] Rinse thoroughly until no colored water comes out.

*In rare cases, the towel may become discolored if the rinse is insufficient.

Performance and Ingredients

Color dye shampoos work by depositing pigments onto the hair shaft while cleansing it. Unlike permanent dyes, these pigments do not penetrate the hair shaft deeply but coat the surface. This makes the color less durable than traditional dyes but also less damaging.

According to this research study, colouring shampoo containing trihydroxybenzene (THB) is harmful to the body and has a detrimental effect on the scalp-skin barrier. While a check on the list of ingredients printed on the bottle of Rishiri Color Shampoo doesn't reflect trihydroxybenzene (THB), however, my regular hair stylist felt that any coating on the hair is not beneficial for the hair in the long term.

When I first started using this, I was worried about the stains on my hands and used gloves but once I realized that it doesn't stain much and can be washed out, I use my hands.

The instructions on my shampoo box recommend leaving it in for 7-10 minutes before rinsing out. The results are more noticeable when left in for 10 minutes instead of 5, which makes sense. If you can leave it in for 15-20 minutes, that's even better. However, I often lack the patience to wait that long most days.

I enjoyed using Pyuru Rishiri Color Shampoo initially, as it really did make my greys less obvious by up to 20% with daily use, so I may extend my next hair colouring job to another 1-2 weeks. However, the product is not the best fit for my hair type.

If I use it continuously for a week without a break, my hair felt clumpy and dry and may have some hairfall during the shampoo-ing process. To combat that, I use conditioner frequently or hair mask every few days, and sometimes, I will use a hair conditioner as pre-conditioning before shampoo-ing.
Occasionally, I also experienced an itch near the hairline.

Because of this issue, I will use another shampoo for 1-2 days after a week of Rishiri Color Shampoo, so it may not have produce the best result in improving the greys.

Pyuru Rishiri Color Shampoo does not contain ammonia, paraben, fragrance, mineral oil, etc. listed by Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. It uses an amino cleaning agent to clean hair gently as well as 4 natural hair coloring ingredients such as curcuma longa, shiconix, gardenia jasminoides, annatto. 100% Japan Hokkaido rishiri seaweed helps in repairing and moisturizing.

Conclusion

To conclude, Pyuru Rishiri Color Shampoo helped to make the greys less obvious at almost up to 20% for me, with daily use, however my hair can be clumpy and dry, hence adding hair conditioner or hair mask is required. Adding on, sometimes I experienced itch near the hairline.
