Lululun is the number 1 face mask brand with over 1 billion sheets sold in Japan so it was natural that I would pick up some of the sheet masks while holidaying in Hokkaido, Japan last month. 

I purchased a box of 5 sheets and gifted some away, leaving just 2 sheets for myself. I regretted not buying more because I ended up loving this sheet mask! In fact, I found it worked much better for my skin than the Hokkaido Milk Mask.

Ever since returning from my trip to Hokkaido, I've come home with another stash of Japanese sheet masks to try. Although I used to be an avid sheet mask user, I significantly reduced my usage over the past 3 years, preferring rinse-off masks instead. I find rinse-off masks more economical and effective with consistent use, but they aren't always practical when I need a quick skincare boost or when I'm travelling.

There are times when my skin looks dull, tired, and dehydrated, and that's when a good hydrating sheet mask really shines. In just 10 to 15 minutes, it can instantly refresh the complexion and leave the skin looking healthier and more radiant. These days, I mainly use sheet masks as an occasional treatment alongside my regular rinse-off masks.

When travelling, however, sheet masks become an essential part of my skincare routine. Between long flights, changing climates, and busy sightseeing days, I rely on both rinse-off masks and sheet masks to keep my skin hydrated, comfortable, and glowing.

I purchased Pixi Rose Remedy Mask during a Sephora sale, hoping for a soothing and hydrating treatment for my skin. Unfortunately, this rinse-off mask turned out to be quite underwhelming which was disappointing, considering that I had a good experience with Pixi Glow Tonic and a decent experience with Pixi Beauty Peel and Polish Resurfacing Concentrate several years ago.

The packaging is attractive and practical, featuring a spatula that conveniently slots into the side of the jar (won't get lost), along with an inner lid to help keep the product fresh and hygienic.

I picked up the PDC Wafood Made Uji Matcha Wash Off Mask during a sale at Don Don Donki and if you've been eyeing this popular Japanese skincare mask, here's everything you need to know before buying.

Packaging and First Impressions

The mask comes in a generous 170g flexible squeeze pack, making it easy to dispense just the right amount of product without any mess. The made-in-Japan formulation immediately signals quality, and the subtle matcha fragrance makes every application feel like a mini spa moment.

Texture and Application Experience

The creamy, gel-like texture glides onto the skin effortlessly and smoothly, delivering an instant cooling, refreshing, and comforting sensation on contact. If you enjoy a sensorial skincare experience, this mask delivers exactly that.

Performance and Results

I leave it on for 10 minutes, which works well for my skin type. However, a few things worth noting for different skin concerns:

• Dry or dehydrated skin types - On low-hydration days, my skin felt slightly taut from application through to rinse-off. I'd strongly recommend layering a hydrating sheet mask immediately after to replenish moisture levels.
• Hand sensitivity - My hands felt noticeably dry during application and rinsing, so those with sensitive or dry hands may want to keep that in mind.
• Post-rinse feel - The skin feels slightly dry immediately after washing off, but settles well once followed up with the rest of your skincare routine.

The key ingredients are...

Licorice extract : Makes skin healthy and smooth
Job's tears fermented extract : Fills every corner of the stratum corneum with moisture, for fine-textured skin
Soybean fermented extract : Highly moisturizing, gives skin firmness

Overall, despite the kinks, my skin looks and feels softer, smoother, and clearer, with visibly more refined pores after use.

Each resealable pouch contains 7 toner-infused sheets stacked together, making it ideal for everyday use without the fuss of opening individual sachets. The closure seals well, helping to keep the masks moist and preventing the essence from drying out too quickly.

The masks themselves are thin, well-soaked and lightweight, offering that refreshing slip you’d want from a toner-style mask. However, the cutting can be a little inconsistent: some sheets have larger eye openings, while others come with a narrower philtrum area, which may affect the fit for different face shapes.

Adding on, I had good experiences with past modeling masks like Reverie Touch Rosy Glow Rubber Mask, Reverie Touch Green Tea Rubber Mask and Cellxv Peel-Off Modelling Mask.

Peel off the lid of the modeling mask cup pack but mine was pretty tight, so I ended up cutting it open. Inside, you’ll find the powder ready to be mixed. The instructions recommend adding 7 spoonfuls of cold water, but I used 8 spoonfuls instead, as the mixture was still too thick and had some dry powder left when using only seven.

I purchased 23.5°N Soy Yogurt Plumping Cream Mask during my last trip to Taiwan in November 2024. Despite knowing that most of their products (23.5°N Bamboo Gel Mask, 23.5°N Red Pearl Barley Brightening Gel Mask and 23.5°N Rice Soothing Active Set) were too gentle for me, I still wanted to give this a try.

I received a box of the rinse-off masks from a good friend who purchased it in Sephora, during Christmas. While I am always happy to receive masks, but unfortunately, products from Peter Thomas Roth didn't were more misses than hits based on past experiences.

I have previously emptied Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Bio-Repair Mask which didn't perform up to my expectation but I am hoping that the rest work well.

After emptying Peter Thomas Roth Rose Stem Cell Bio-Repair Mask, it is time to try out Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask which unfortunately, was another disappointment. I received 5 x 14ml Peter Thomas Roth masks as a Christmas gift some time back which is available on Sephora during the Christmas period. 

Packaging, Scent and Texture

The one in my arsenal is a 14ml travel sized tube and I also bought a 50ml size a few months later, when it was on sale, when I was running out of rinse-off masks. 

It has a light cucumber scent mixed with some fragrance. The light green gel texture has a cooling and refreshing sensation upon application on skin.

How To Use :

1) Apply a generous coat on clean skin.

2) Allow mask to remain on for 10 minutes.

3) Rinse with cool water.

Tip : Use two to three times a week or daily for intensive hydration.

Performance and Ingredients

Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask is marketed as an ultra-gentle, refreshing gel mask designed to soothe, hydrate, and detoxify dry, irritated skin using a blend of botanical extracts. With its cooling texture and calming ingredients, I had high hopes—especially given how often my skin craves hydration and relief from environmental stress.

Upon application, the mask does deliver a refreshing, cooling sensation, which initially feels promising. However, that’s where the benefits ended for me. I didn’t experience any noticeable soothing effect, and surprisingly, it didn’t hydrate my skin at all. The gel absorbed quickly into my skin, almost disappearing within minutes, but left behind a slight taut feeling—particularly around my philtrum (the area between the nose and upper lip), which was a bit uncomfortable.

After rinsing off the mask, my skin felt virtually unchanged. My skin texture, especially on the nose, remained rough and dehydrated. Unfortunately, the mask didn’t deliver the results I was looking for, and I was left disappointed—especially considering the price point of the 50ml purchase.

Overall, while this mask might work for someone with very sensitive or reactive skin looking for a barely-there treatment, it was simply too gentle for what my skin needed. I’ll be reaching for something more hydrating and restorative next time.

Conclusion

To conclude, while Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask offers a refreshing, cooling application, it ultimately fell short of its claims—for my skin, at least. It neither soothed nor hydrated effectively, and the lack of visible results left me underwhelmed. This mask may suit those with very sensitive or non-dehydrated skin looking for a light, calming treatment, but for skin in need of deeper hydration and noticeable soothing benefits, it may be too gentle to make a real difference.
