I purchased this gel mask together with 23.5°N Bamboo Ultra Hydrating Gel Mask sometime back.
Hailing from Taiwan, 23.5°N mission is to “extract beauty from nature.” 23.5°N does this by sourcing a diverse array of crops from an astounding 368 of Taiwan’s townships throughout the year.
As soon as they are sourced from the origin, plants are sent to the extraction laboratory to preserve active ingredients and to avoid the degradation of freshness during the delivery process.
The name 23.5°N represents the latitude in which Taiwan lies and this unique geographical location is the reason why it is rich in all kinds of flowers, fruits, crops, and vegetables.
23.5°N believes in the philosophy of simple formulas that focus only on the highest quality ingredients essential to make a skincare product efficacious. Skincare products with complicated formulas are more prone to leaving skin in discomfort, hence they have focused on only using what is necessary such as concentrated essences of natural and gentle ingredients.
23.5°N is a cruelty-free brand. Their formulations are free from potential irritants such as, SLS, SLES, artificial coloring, fragrance, alcohol, parabens, and animal ingredients.

23.5°N Red Pearl Barley Brightening Gel Mask is housed in a 100ml frosted tub with a freshness seal to protect the white gel contents. It has a hint of barley scent which is mild and soothing.
How to Use:
- For special care, apply a generous layer to cleansed face, leave on for 20 minutes and rinse off with water after 2 minutes massage.
- For basic care, apply a pea-size amount to face daily without rinsing off.
Performance and Ingredients
Suitable for dehydrated skin and uneven skin tone, 23.5°N Red Pearl Barley Brightening Gel Mask is a unique botanical brightening formula infused with Red Pearl Barley which is effective in brightening uneven skin tone and refining skin texture. It is said to purify and brighten uneven skin tone, effectively reducing the appearance of dark spots and improving overall appearance of skin texture.
As a jelly-gel mask, this applies with a calming and cooling sensation but requires more effort to be rinsed off as it dries down to a sticky finishing. It can be used as a rinse-off mask or as an overnight mask but I only use it as a rinse-off mask as overnight masks are not essential in my skincare regime.
I like using the brightening gel mask as part of my in-shower routine where I will wash my face first, apply the mask, allow it to take effect while taking care of my hair and body routine, massage and rinse it off.
Initially, I didn't notice any brightening effects however, they get more pronounced with regular usage. The gel mask also provides an immediate brightening effect on dull skin which I really like. An emergency mask which I can rely on, for important events. Do note that the brightening effect is not apparent on optimal skin days.
My skin feels soft, calmed, smooth and brightened. No tightness or irritation. However, I have to add on, the mask stings slightly on random areas on my face at times, especially during the initial use but I have not experience it when I started using it as part of my shower routine.
With a 6 months PAO ( Period After Opening ), you can definitely use it up with twice weekly usage. And it contains only 9 ingredients, how cool is that?

To conclude, 23.5°N Red Pearl Barley Brightening Gel Mask would be great as an emergency mask for dull skin days as it can brighten up your skin instantly. It contains only 9 ingredients which meant the chance of irritation is lower than products with a long list of ingredients.
