[ Review ] Be The Skin BHA+ Pore Zero Serum

 

Product Description

The BHA+ Pore Zero Serum is a skincare product designed to keep the skin clean, smooth, and refreshed by using a combination of AHA and BHA. The formula includes 1% Willow-BHA™, AHA, Centella asiatica leaf extract, and a patented Ulmus davidiana complex, along with other natural extracts such as Oenothera, Pueraria lobata, and pine needle extract. This serum regulates excessive sebum production, addresses whiteheads and blackheads, tightens pores, and keeps the skin supple. It offers a low-irritation cleansing experience proven by skin irritation tests, making it suitable for all skin types. The product is free from artificial colors, mineral oils, and parabens, providing comprehensive pore care, anti-inflammatory benefits, and smooth texture enhancement.

After emptying Be The Skin Sebum Zero Aloerice Sun Cream and Be The Skin Vitavita Circle Zero Eye Cream, it is time to empty Be The Skin BHA+ Pore Zero Serum which I am most sad about. 

I received this serum from a Stylekorean collaboration and and I’m so grateful for these opportunities—they’ve led me to discover some amazing products!

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Be The Skin BHA+ Pore Zero Serum is a 30ml product contained in a glass dropper bottle. It has a watery, slightly viscous green coloured content, due to the presence of Chlorophyll with a subtle calming herbal fragrance.

I purchased the rescue kit at 50% off, with the sigiskin daylight oasis given free. I think its only ethical to mention that the product will be expiring in early April 2025, which is less than 3 months time. Unfortunately, it was not indicated on their website.

I purchased HerBloom Calming Days Vegan Sunscreen, Hygee Vegan Sun Cream and a bunch of other Korean sunscreens from Bemused some time back.

It's also Reef Safe! There is a subtle herbal scent and an airy lightweight texture with a finishing that looked shiny and greasy on me. 

How To Use:

Apply a moderate amount of sunscreen as the last step of your daily care routine.

Performance and Ingredients

Formulated with advanced UV filters, it ensures effective sun defence without leaving a white cast. Infused with Niacinamide, this sunscreen brightens and evens out your skin tone, while a blend of Centella Asiatica, Aloe Vera, and Potato Pulp Extract soothes and hydrates. Sodium Hyaluronate and Glycerin deliver intense moisture, leaving your skin soft and supple all day long.

Rich in antioxidants, natural oils like Rosemary, Chamomile, and Clary Sage protect against environmental stressors, promoting a healthier, more radiant complexion.

I loved the thoughtfully designed paper packaging and the airy, lightweight texture that spread effortlessly across my skin. However, the greasy, shiny finish wasn’t the best fit for me. To tone down the excess glow, I had to layer my regular sunscreen powder on top—turning the shine into a more manageable, healthy dewiness.

The downside? Because of the noticeable shine, I found myself applying less than the recommended amount, which ultimately defeats the purpose of proper sun protection. While it may work well for those who enjoy a luminous finish, it wasn’t the ideal match for my sunscreen routine.

Even though it contains Tinosorb M, I didn't detect any white cast on my fair skin. 

The key ingredients are.....

Potato : Improves and brightens skin tone and pigmentation over time. Rich in antioxidants, Potato Extract also protects the skin against sun damage and signs of aging. Glucose and Xylitol in Potato Extract help increase the skin’s moisture retention. 

Centella Asiatica : Heals wounds, soothes, revitalizes, and strengthens the skin barrier.

Aloe Vera : Heals, soothes, hydrates, and cools red, irritated, or inflamed skin.

The 4 UV Filters are.... 

Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate : A new generation, chemical sunscreen agent with high UVA protection and high photostability. Also known as Uvinul A Plus.

Ethylhexyl Triazone : A new generation, chemical sunscreen that gives the highest photo-stable absorption of all available UVB filters today. Also known as Octyl Triazone and Uvinul T 150.

Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol : Also known as Tinosorb M, this is a "hybrid" sunscreen meaning it's half-way between physical (the ones that, at least partly, reflect the sun) and chemical agents (that absorb the rays, which most sunscreens do).  It is a new generation UV filter and gives a nice broad-spectrum coverage (280-400 nm, meaning UVB as well as UVA protection) and is highly photostable. It can also help to stabilize other less stable sunscreens, like Octinoxate and work well with other UV-filters.

The safety profile of Tinosorb M is great. It is not absorbed into the skin unlike some other chemical sunscreens and does not show estrogenic activity. However, Tinosorb M leaves a white cast on the skin that can be bothersome on darker skin tones. 

Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone : A chemical sunscreen agent that's very oil soluble and requires relatively low concentrations to achieve high SPF values. Particularly suitable for water-repellent and water-resistant formulations, it is super photostable where it loses 10% of its SPF protection abilities only in 25 hours when 2 hours counts already as "photostable" in the world of chemical sunscreens. Also known as Iscotrizinol.

Conclusion

To conclude, HerBloom Calming Days Vegan Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ impresses with its eco-friendly paper packaging, Reef-Safe formula, and airy, lightweight texture. While it spreads effortlessly and has a subtle herbal scent, the shiny and greasy finish wasn’t ideal for my skin. I had to mattify it with sunscreen powder, but this also led me to use less than the recommended amount—compromising its effectiveness.

If you love a dewy glow, this might be a great fit, but for those who prefer a more matte finish, it may not be the best choice.

Dermalogica Skin Perfect Primer SPF30 is a 3 in 1 that primes the skin for makeup, protect it from sun damage and treats skin aging. It has a silky feel that goes on easily onto the skin for a smooth texture. Skin Perfect Primer SPF30 is great for all skin types.

Natural earth minerals and pearl powder provides a light tint that evens out skin tone for light coverage. SPF sun block protects skin against damage while soy protein helps to smoothen skin texture. It keeps skin looking matte and provides an excellent base for blending. Wear under makeup for a smoother and lasting look.

Always a fan of tinted products for that no makeup makeup look so I just couldn't resist trying out Dermalogica Skinperfect Primer SPF 30. I first tried it when my beauty therapist from Asterspring used it on me, after my facial and subsequently redeemed this product from my facial packaging credits when I emptied Colorescience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield Classic SPF50 PA++++.

Dermalogica Skinperfect Primer SPF 30 is a tiny 22ml product but it still lasted me for quite awhile as alittle goes a long way. It has a velvety silicone-y texture with a hint of lavender scent.

I first tried the PHS Hairscience Adv Detangling Hair Spray back in 2018, followed by PHS HAIRSCIENCE FEM Daily Regime Starter Kit in 2022. The detangling spray was decent while the starter kit wasn't a good fit for me. 

PHS Pro Shampoo Stem C+ Calming Shampoo was recommended to me, after a hair scalp trial and treatment session, together with my sister and mother. Based on my hair condition, PHS Daily Essence, Tonic and weekly elixir, together with this shampoo were recommended for my hair routine but I purchased the shampoo and daily essence only.

PHS Pro Shampoo Stem C+ Calming Shampoo is housed in a 500ml bottle with a pump dispenser. It has a calming scent. The grey contents lather well.

After emptying Some By Mi V10 Hyal Air Fit Sunscreen and Everyday Humans Resting Beach Face SPF30 Sunscreen Serum, I shopped my stash and chose Hygee Vegan Sun Cream SPF 50+ PA++++ as my next sunscreen which I purchased from Bemused together with other sunscreens (there was a particular brand which I was eyeing, and it was not available in Singapore).

Hailing from Korea, HYGGEE takes its name and skin care philosophy from the Danish concept of living well with simplicity. The brand offers multi-tasking products made with high-quality and powerful ingredients to simplify the skin care routine without compromising effectiveness. 

This is my first product from the brand and I am so glad to try this sunscreen, although alcohol listed as the 2nd ingredient in the list, isn't my preferred type.

Not many brands offer sunscreen powder so when I chanced upon N'Pure CICA Beat The Sun Powder in Batam, Indonesia, it was just apt for me to purchase it. Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Powder had been discontinued while Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45 had scratchy brush bristles so this was my 3rd sunscreen powder. Such designs ensure hygienic, mess-free application, making it perfect for quick SPF touch-ups throughout the day!
