Dr. Wu Daily Renewal Serum With Mandelic Acid Review

Product Description
Dr. Wu Daily Renewal Serum With Mandelic Acid 8% is a revolutionary home spa facial treatment using several patented technologies and ingredients to refine skin texture, diminish fine lines and improves skin elasticity and firmness.

It contains Mandelic Acid 8%, which is used in chemical peeling procedures, to effectively diminish the appearance of fine lines and stimulate the skin desquamation process to achieve a smoother and brighter skin, even improves skin tone by resurfacing epidermis and removing aged layers. Formula also contains Sodium Hyaluronate, Tinocare GL and Biophytex which can be easily absorbed by the skin to facilitate hydration, and reduce dark spots and freckles, therefore to make skin brighter and more clear.

I considered myself a beginner to actives as I only started using actives from 2018 and slowly incorporating more along the way. I prefer gentle products because of my sensitive and fair skin and Dr. Wu Daily Renewal Serum With Mandelic Acid seems promising as its milder and gentle.

An active is the ingredient in a product addressing whatever skin concern it's meant to target. Whether they work for you is not always clear—until you try them. While incorporating actives into your skincare routine can yield some amazing results over time, exercising caution and gradually increasing potencies based on your individual skin’s tolerance is key.

I redeemed a 5ml sample from Dr. Wu sometime back and only started using it recently. There were rave reviews about the this product and I can't wait to try it out.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Dr. Wu Daily Renewal Serum With Mandelic Acid comes with a dropper in an amber glass bottle. The full retail size is 15ml while the sample size I owned is 5ml.

Performance and Ingredients

A new formula with the golden ratio of three acids : 5% Mandelic Acid, 2% Salicylic Acid and 1% Pyruvic Acid, this renewal serum helps to resurface your skin's dermis by removing aged layers and accelerating its metabolism process. It helps to clear clogged pores, reduce pore size, improve skin tone and clarity. Its gentler formula also contains multiple hydration and calming agents reduce dryness, flakiness, redness and swelling of skin after renewal treatment while enhancing its radiance and glow.

This multi-tasking serum brings about five skin renewal benefits
- Enhance Skin Metabolism & Cell Renewal
- Acne Control & Repair
- Pore Perfection
- Whitening & Pigmentation Control
- Boost skin's firmness and elasticity.

For the uninitiated, Mandelic Acid is a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). There’s some research showing Mandelic Acid is an effective exfoliant, although it’s not as effective as Glycolic Acid due to its larger size (it’s twice as big as Glycolic Acid) and slower penetration into skin; however, these traits can also make Mandelic Acid more tolerable for those with sensitive skin.

Being an exfoliator, Dr. Wu Daily Renewal Serum With Mandelic Acid increases cell turnover and contains anti-acne and anti-aging properties while helping to improve skin texture. It is great for those with sensitive or acneic skin who prefers an exfoliant that is less harsh than AHAs.

The dropper is easy to use, and I tend to dispense a tiny amount in my palm and spread all over my face. It stings for a few short seconds and cause subtle redness on cheeks on first use. Thereafter, my skin is instantly softer and smoother.

There was no greasy or sticky after-feel sensation which is something I like.

Even though the product is touted to be a daily use product for day and night, I prefer to use it once/twice a week at night, as I noticed there was redness on the broken capillaries on the sides of my nose with daily use ( once ) for 4 days. My skin also started to get dry after a week's usage with rough skin so its best to pair it with a hydrating serum or moisturizer after using this.

On the positive side, the Renewal Serum With Mandelic Acid left my skin looking clear, bright, soft and smooth with lesser blackheads and smaller pores. I also notice lesser breakouts since using this. A prominent skin tag on my forehead has also became flatter with prolonged use. Yay!

That said, do note that sunscreen is highly recommended after the serum usage as it may increase sun sensitivity.

The key ingredients are.....

Mandelic Acid : Derived from bitter almond, it is an increasingly popular treatment ingredient known for its gentle yet effective ability to renew and refine the skin for greater clarity and better texture. Being larger in molecular size, it penetrates into the skin at a slower and therefore is gentler and suited for sensitive skin.

Salicylic Acid : An effective acne treatment ingredient that helps to clear and prevent pimples.

Pyruvic Acid : Helps to produce collagen in the skin which helps to cause tightening in the skin.

Conclusion

To conclude, Dr. Wu Daily Renewal Serum With Mandelic Acid has given me clear, bright, soft and smooth skin with lesser blackheads and smaller pores. I also notice lesser breakouts since using this.

Hopefully, with the large size, one can see improvement for small, rough and bumpy skin texture as well as general unevenness of tone and texture.

That said, I prefer to use this once/twice a week with nightly use to reduce chance of irritation and redness for my sensitive skin. And its best to pair with a hydrating serum or moisturizer to counteract the drying effects with long term use and to top up with a sunscreen in the day.
