Korean skin care brand Face Republic desires to help customers find their true beauty through its skin care products that harness anti-aging benefits. It offers a range of products from the Hydro, Glow, Calming and Blooming lines that all specialize in achieving flawless skin for a youthful look. Bestsellers include the Vita Capsule Luminous Serum, the Vita Glow Toning Cream and the Hydro Boost Solution Serum.
Face Republic is my first foray into the brand and I am so glad that I did.
Packaging, Scent and Texture
Face Republic Purity Sun Essence is a 50ml sunscreen tube with a lovely lightweight lotion texture and a subtle regular sunscreen scent. The tube is slim and handy while the creamy-lotion texture is easy to dispense via the tiny hole. Just a light depression on the bottle and the sunscreen contents ooze out easily.
How To Use :
Gently apply a generous amount onto clean face and neck. Reapply as needed.
Performance and Ingredients
By now, you should realize that wearing sunscreen is the #1 anti-aging tip and the best sunscreen is the one you would apply it every day. For me, that would be a sunscreen that is non-greasy and non-sticky as such textures are more suitable for my skin type in humid weather where I stay.
I fell in love with Purity Sun Essence upon first use. Vegan-certified, Cruelty-free, and Reef-safe as well as being water and sweat proof, the sunscreen has such a beautiful lightweight creamy-lotion texture that is easy to spread without much of a white cast.
It absorbed well with a subtle cooling sensation and a slight tackiness. There is a light shine on skin but thankfully, it doesn't look too greasy on me even after applying several layers. Adding on, this is also moisturising so may suit dry skin types.
Under Paula's Choice Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 and RMS Beauty "Un" Powder, it gives off that healthy even-toned look.
This is a waterproof sunscreen which makes it great for water sports although it is always best to apply several layers since we always never apply enough.
Face Republic Purity Sun Essence has an SPF of 50 PA++++ and helps to protect against UVA and UVB rays. SPF 50 sunscreens protect you from 98 percent of UVB "burning" rays that penetrate your skin, while PA++++ sunscreens provide extremely high UVA protection.
On a label, the letters "PA" followed by plus signs represent a rating system developed in Japan to represent the amount of UVA protection the product provides.
This is what each PA rating means:
PA+ = Some UVA protection.
PA++ = Moderate UVA protection.
PA+++ = High UVA protection.
PA++++ = Extremely High UVA protection.

Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate : A new generation, chemical sunscreen agent with high UVA protection and high photostability. Also known as Uvinul A Plus.
Ethylhexyl Triazone : A new generation, chemical sunscreen that gives the highest photo-stable absorption of all available UVB filters today. Also known as Octyl Triazone and Uvinul T 150.
Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol : Also known as Tinosorb M, this is a "hybrid" sunscreen meaning it's half-way between physical (the ones that, at least partly, reflect the sun) and chemical agents (that absorb the rays, which most sunscreens do). It is a new generation UV filter and gives a nice broad-spectrum coverage (280-400 nm, meaning UVB as well as UVA protection) and is highly photostable. It can also help to stabilize other less stable sunscreens, like Octinoxate and work well with other UV-filters.
The safety profile of Tinosorb M is great. It is not absorbed into the skin unlike some other chemical sunscreens and does not show estrogenic activity. However, Tinosorb M leaves a white cast on the skin that can be bothersome on darker skin tones.
Diethylhexy Butamido Triazone : A chemical sunscreen agent that's very oil soluble and requires relatively low concentrations to achieve high SPF values. Particularly suitable for water-repellent and water-resistant formulations, it is super photostable where it loses 10% of its SPF protection abilities only in 25 hours when 2 hours counts already as "photostable" in the world of chemical sunscreens. Also known as Iscotrizinol.

Conclusion
To conclude, Face Republic Purity Sun Essence is a sunscreen which I really enjoyed using. The creamy-lotion texture is such a joy to use and I can wear several layers without the worries of looking like a greasy pan. Adding on, this is waterproof which makes it an all-rounder. I
t is also one of my Top 22 Empties I Loved in 2022 and is said to be a dupe for La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Light Fluid Facial Sunscreen.
That said, this sun essence stings occasionally.
Also note that Face Republic Purity Sun Essence is manufactured by Kolmar Korea, a global cosmetics ODM manufacturing company that is leading the market for sunscreen with its innovative technology.
Their reliable sunscreens have became more popular after the Korean Sunscreen Controversies in 2021 with products being suspended due to their lower-than-claimed SPF rating.
