N'Pure CICA Beat The Sun Powder SPF30 Review

Product Description
N’pure Cica Beat The Sun powder is a lightweight hybrid sunscreen powder by combining physical sunscreen (Titanium Dioxide) and chemical sunscreen (Ethylhexyl Salicylate & Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate) to provide protection against UVA/UVB suns with comfortable brushes.

Enriched with natural content such as Centella Asiatica Leaf Water, Rice Bran Oil & Vitamin E. With claims to provide maximum protection for the skin, the product is also able to help absorb excess oil, minimize the appearance of pores, and make the face makeup more perfect while reducing shine. Highly recommended for re-apply sunscreen process and suitable for oily and acne-prone facial skin.

Not many brands offer sunscreen powder so when I chanced upon N'Pure CICA Beat The Sun Powder in Batam, Indonesia, it was just apt for me to purchase it. Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Powder had been discontinued while Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF 45 had scratchy brush bristles so this was my 3rd sunscreen powder. Such designs ensure hygienic, mess-free application, making it perfect for quick SPF touch-ups throughout the day!

Hailing from Indonesia, NPURE products are made from carefully selected natural ingredients from plant extracts to essential oils. There are no parabens, sulfates, or artificial fragrances in NPURE products that can trigger negative reactions on the skin.

N'Pure Cica Series contains Centella Asiatica (cica) content which helps to soothe the skin and speed up the healing of acne. Suitable for acne-prone or sensitive skin, this series also moisturizes the skin and reduces inflammation.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Decanted into my Shu Uemura Loose Powder Tub

N'Pure CICA Beat The Sun Powder is a 5g product, housed in a plastic cylinder container with a built in brush (made of synthetic bristles) that swivels up for application while the base container is preloaded with powder. The cap protects the brush from contamination and keeps the product clean when not in use.

Unfortunately, I couldn't dispense the powder via the cylinder container, no matter how I shake, tap or flick the container. It was such a pity, as the cylinder container could be reused for refills or other types of sunscreen powder for touch-ups. There is no fragrance.

How To Use:
Tap: Tap the brush upside down (the side of the lid is below) several times
Pop: Unscrew the brush lid and push the brush protector part down
Flick: Flick the brush with finger to ensure the powder is out
Apply: Gently apply all over face, neck, ear and other open areas in circular motion.
Reapply: Reapply all day as needed (or at least every 2 hours) for UV protection or oil absorption on face

Performance and Ingredients

I decanted N'Pure CICA Beat The Sun Powder into another empty loose powder container and used a powder puff to pat the powder all over my face after applying my regular tinted sunscreen, treating this sun powder as a loose powder.

The powder spreads easily and is smooth, blurring my pores while the matte finishing lasted till mid-day before a subtle shine on my combination skin takes over.

It is an effective way to reapply your sunscreen on a scorching hot day, but I prefer a sunscreen mist for that, as I didn't like to reapply powder on a dirty face when I am outside.

N'Pure CICA Beat The Sun Powder SPF30 UV Filters

Judging by the UV filters listed in Cosdna, the coverage for UVA protection isn't high on the list, so it is highly recommended to use a sunscreen prior to this powder and use this sunscreen powder as an additional top-up, for maximum protection.

Titanium Dioxide : A physical UV blocking ingredient, considered safe since it does not penetrate the skin and offers broad-spectrum protection against both UVA and UVB rays.
.
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate : Often listed on sunscreen products as Octinoxate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (also called Octyl Methoxycinnamate) is used in products that are applied to the skin to absorb, reflect or scatter UV rays; it protects the skin from sunburn and other damaging effects of the sun. Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate also protects cosmetics and personal care products from deterioration caused by UV rays and allows them to last longer in high UV conditions.

Ethylhexyl Salicylate : Also known as Octisalate or Octyl Salicylate, this is an organic compound used as an ingredient in sunscreens and cosmetics to absorb UVB (ultraviolet) rays from the sun. Although the Cosmetics Ingredient Review notes that reproductive and developmental toxicity can occur in relation to Salicylic Acid, one of the two primary components of Ethylhexyl Salicylate, it has determined that the levels used in cosmetic and beauty products would not cause any adverse reaction. Importantly, the FDA has approved Ethylhexyl Salicylate for use in sunscreen with up to 5% concentration. Ethylhexyl Salicylate receives an EWG hazard rating of 4.

CI 77019, Titanium Dioxide, Silica, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Talc, CI 77492, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Lauroyl Lysine, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Methicone, CI 77499, CI 77491, Aluminum Hydroxide, Magnesium Myristate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, BHT, Tocopherol, Centella Asiatica Leaf Water

Conclusion

To conclude, N'Pure CICA Beat The Sun Powder spreads easily, feels smooth on the skin, and even blurs pores for that soft-focus effect. The matte finish held up well till midday before a subtle shine peeked through on my combination skin.

BUT… the packaging? A letdown. The container just doesn’t work properly. And for a sunscreen, it lacks full UVA protection, which is a deal-breaker for me.

But if you’re after a lightweight, blurring touch-up powder (and aren’t relying on it for full sun protection), it might still be worth a try!
