[ Review ] : Sulwhasoo Time Treasure Invigorating Eye Cream

Sulwhasoo Time Treasure Invigorating Eye Cream is a premium total anti-aging eye cream formulated with highly concentrated Upright Korean Red Pine coupled with Poria cocos to fortify the eye area for firmer looking skin.

I usually emptied 2 eye gels/creams a year ( a 15ml size typically lasts me for about 6 months ) but have yet to find any effective eye products so far. Almost wondering if I should be getting the more expensive eye creams out there although my pockets would definitely not be happy. 

Thank goodness that I received Sulwhasoo Time Treasure kit with my last Sulwhasoo purchase and the first product which I wanted to try so badly is this Sulwhasoo Time Treasure Invigorating Eye Cream. It is a 4ml travel-sized sample and the full retail size of 25ml costs an eye-popping $360.

Hoping to incorporate more rinse-off masks in my skincare regime, I purchased 23.5°N Bamboo Ultra Hydrating Gel Mask during SASA's closing down sale last year.

23.5°N Bamboo Ultra Hydrating Gel Mask comes in a sturdy frosted tub with 100ml contents. It has a freshness seal which you peel off to reveal the jelly mask goodness. A small spatula is included for easy access to the contents. The fresh scent is subtle and not overpowering. 

[ Review ] : Avalon Organics Intense Defense Cleansing Milk

 

Product Description

Avalon Organics Intense Defense Cleansing Milk gently moisturizes and lifts away impurities, leaving skin smooth and hydrated without over drying it. This certified organic formula is made with non-GMO ingredients and no parabens, synthetic colors or fragrances, phthalates or sulfates. It is also vegan and not tested on animals. 

I started using Avalon Organics back in 2011 where I have tried its shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, eye cream and firming lotion but stopped in 2015 as they just didn't WOW me enough to continue purchasing them. Only the shower gels were memorable. 

Manufactured in USA, Avalon Organics uses plant based organic ingredients to create products that are safe, effective and conscious of the greater good. Their products are vegan and cruelty-free and is never tested on animals. As part of their sustainability practices, their packaging are made from high post-consumer material content and sustainably sourced paperboard and can be recycled after use. Avalon Organics Intense Defense Cleansing Milk is housed in a 251ml bottle with a pump dispenser. The cheery orange colour is bright and cheerful and probably tells one that it has Vitamin C as one of its ingredients. 

Initial Application

The cleansing milk, as the name implies, is creamy but lightweight in texture. I'm loving the orange scent which is so uplifting and smells so good! 

How To Use : 

Using moistened hands to gently massage over face and neck, then rinsing clean, returns skin to a fresh, pure state. Following with an Intense Defense toner and moisturizer provides the benefits of a complete regimen.

Performance and Ingredients

Made with a blend of organic botanicals and essential oils, this plant-based cleanser is infused with vitamin C, white tea and lemon bioflavonoids to defend skin from environmental stressors such as UV rays and pollution while preventing premature signs of aging. 

Avalon Organics Intense Defense Cleansing Milk has a uplifting orange scent with a lightweight creamy milky texture. There was a subtle drying feel on the palms after a week of usage and when its almost 40% used up, I started to feel that its slightly drying on my face which wasn't a good sign. 

That said, I do understood that some Vitamin C products tend to be slightly drying for my skin type such as Azelique Age Refining Vitamin C Facial Serum and Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster.

On optimal skin days with a good masking regime, the subtle drying feel on skin wasn't too apparent so its still acceptable. Overall, skin felt fresh, clean and soft. However, as the formula contains citrus oils so it may not be suitable for those with sensitive skin. 

Nearing to the last 20% of contents, it was difficult to get the contents out, but I managed to "scrape" out the cleansing milk with the upside down approach however, with the last 5%, its was getting increasingly difficult as the contents just wouldn't budge. A tiny long spatula might do the trick. 

The product scored 3.5 from 30 users on Makeupalley with an EWG score of 4 which refers to a moderate hazard score for healthier, safer products.

Conclusion

To conclude, Avalon Organics Intense Defense Cleansing Milk is a lovely milky cleanser with an uplifting orange scent but may be slightly drying after some time of usage. It contains citrus oils too, so may not be suitable for those with sensitive skin.

Mad Hippie Eye Cream comes in a 15ml opaque plastic bottle with an airless pump. The coloured illustrations gave a colourful and cheerful vibe to it. Upon first use, I do found the floral fragrance to be rather strong and lingered for awhile which I prefer to do without, however, with time, I got used to it. White and lightweight lotion-creamy in texture, it glides well on skin.

Eliminates fine lines caused by dry skin. Moisture until morning with high adhesion and supple fitting design.

I purchased a box of Kao Biore Tegotae Eye Mask from Dokodemo which reminded me vaguely of Morishita Ravis Overnight Eye Mask that did not work out for me, however, I am willing to take a chance with Kao, hoping that this may work better on me. Unfortunately, they weere still as bad. 

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Kao Biore Tegotae Eye Mask comes in a pretty blue box with 8 pairs of individually packed overnight eye masks. Each pair of eye mask is dry with no fragrance but has a hint of the glue adhesive scent ( adhesive used as the backing ). 

The light foamy-cushiony material is generous in size which covers a large undereye area. The adhesive backing ensures that it sticks well on the undereye area with no sliding movement so that you can sleep in peace.   

How to use : 

1) After washing your face, peel off the transparent film and apply it to the skin. 

2) Touch it lightly to prevent air from entering between the skin and the pack. 

3) Take a rest overnight with the patches attached and peel it off the next morning. 

note : Although it is effective even for about 1 hour, it is more effective when used overnight (about 6-8 hours). Recommend daily use, especially when you feel dry.

[ Review ] : Acure Brightening Body Scrub

 

Product Description

Acure Brightening Body Scrub is a brightening blend of clay, sea salt and niacinamide scrub with an exfoliating experience that will keep you soft and refreshed.

I use body scrubs on a regular basis to keep my skin soft, smooth and healthy. The skin is in a constant state of turnover where dead skin rises to the surface, sheds naturally and reveals the baby soft skin underneath. This process slows over time and contributes to a buildup of dead cells on the skin’s surface.

The goal of a body scrub is to remove dead skin cells and encourage the healthy production of new ones. It also helps to promote efficient circulation and skin cell turnover, smoothing and softening rough, dry skin and drawing out impurities and clearing congestion. 

If you drink coffee on a regular basis, you can also mix used coffee grounds with coconut oil and salt/sugar to make your own body scrub to save some moolah. Check out my past body scrub reviews and what I have tried from Acure Organics.

Acure Brightening Body Scrub is housed in a bright yellow 177ml sized tube that gives off a cheerful vibe. It has a subtle scent and the soft creamy nitty gritty texture is dark brown in colour which reminded me vaguely of I'm From Vitamin Tree Mask. 

How To Use : 

1) Apply to a wet body and scrub gently with your fingertips. 

2) Rinse thoroughly. 

note : Use 3x/week for glowing results.

Performance and Ingredients

Acure Brightening Body Scrub has a nitty-gritty texture which may came across as slightly abrasive for sensitive skin. That said, it does provide a very smooth skin after exfoliation. However, I don't really notice any brightening effect from the scrub. 

When its down to the last 20% contents, it became increasingly difficult to get the contents out of the tube and I have to cut it and decant them to a jar for easy access. As time goes by, the texture and colour started to remind me of poop at times. If you need something to scare the kids for fun, you can consider smearing them on your body and get them to clean it up for you. Perhaps through this test, you might realize which child is more dependable during old age? :P

Acure Brightening Body Scrub

Conclusion

To conclude, Acure Brightening Body Scrub is a nice body scrub for smoother skin but it may be slightly abrasive for those with delicate skin. It also contains citrus oils so may not be suitable for those with sensitive skin. 

Giovanni Hot Chocolate Sugar Scrub is my all-time favourite body scrub and Origins Smoothing Ginger Body Scrub is a great gentle body scrub with a divine scent.

[ Review ] : Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Water

Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Water is a mild cleansing water with micellar water that effectively removes makeup and impurities while leaving the skin well-moisturised.

I purchased Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Water Duo, a travel exclusive set of 2 bottles during a promotion from IShopChangi last year. It was a pretty good deal with free gifts and free delivery ( above $59 ) as well as a chance for me to try out a new product. 

My favourite micellar water has always been Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution but every now and then, I like to try out new products so when I chanced upon Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Water online, I knew I have to get it.  

I have a soft spot for Sulwhasoo and have tried several products from the brand - you can check out the various Sulwhasoo products' reviews on my blog. 

Hailing from Korea, Sulwhasoo formulates innovative skin science by infusing wisdom with modern science for ageless beauty with healthy radiance hence its tagline is Timeless Wisdom, Ageless Beauty. 

This prestige beauty brand, focused on hanbang ingredients indigenous to Korea, is as highly respected in its native land as it is abroad. Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Water comes in a 200ml size with a separate pump dispenser enclosed in the box. It has a minimalistic clean vibe and looked so pretty on my bathroom vanity shelf. The contents are clear in colour and runny in texture with a subtle scent. 

How To Use :

Performance and Ingredients

Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Water harmonises water-soluble components and stabilised oil-soluble components to offer a light yet thorough cleansing. Triple Micellar Technology provides the optimal skin cleansing effect while the oil-soluble components completely remove makeup by gently melting light and heavy make-up. Hydra Capture Complex™ keeps the skin richly hydrated and provides moisture during cleansing, keeping skin hydrated without feeling tight. 

This one-step cleansing water is easy and convenient for usage. The pump dispenser has a locking mechanism ( turn left or right ) so you can "lock" it after every usage to prevent accidental depression which was quite a thoughtful gesture. 

Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Water is, as its name implies - gentle and effective. It cleanses off my sunscreen and makeup well and leaving my skin feeling soft, clean, fresh and smooth. More effort is required to cleanse off eye makeup, including mascara and a cotton bud is needed to clear the eyeliner and mascara remnants. 

However, as noted, it does contain fragrances so it may not be the best fit for everyone. 

In terms of ingredients, it contains the following...

Coix Lacryma-Jobi Ma-Yuen Seed Extract : Also known as Job's Tears or Pearl Barley, the ingredient is high in Vitamin B3, also known as Niacin, which is known to help brighten skin and evens out the complexion. It’s also rich in peptides which helps firm the skin and prevents signs of aging. 

Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract : A skin-brightening or whitening agent used to brighten, moisturize and revitalize dull complexions, keeping skin looking fresh and smooth. In-vitro (made in test tubes) and animal studies both show promising results for inhibiting tyrosinase, the famous enzyme regulating melanin production. It also contains antioxidant components such as carotenoids, coumarins,  limonoids, and flavonoids that might be useful for the skin to protect itself from UV caused damages.

Conclusion

To conclude, Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Water is a gentle and effective makeup remover. It left my skin clean, smooth, fresh and soft however it contains fragrance so it may not be for every one. That said, Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution would still be my holy grail micellar water since it is suitable for most skin types, including sensitive skin.

Derma B Creamy Touch Body Wash is housed in a 400ml sized bottle with a pump dispenser. It has a subtle powdery musk scent and is lotion-creamy in texture. The pump dispenser is sturdy and easy to use in the bathroom. 

How To Use : 

1) Pump two or three times onto your palms, rub them to make a luxurious foam 

2) Gently massage all over the body and rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. 

Performance and Ingredients

Made in Korea, Derma B Creamy Touch Body Wash has been proven to provide 48 hours hydration using a safe and reliable formula. It is free from parabens, phenoxyethanol, mineral oil, artificial colorants and ethanol and is suitable for dry, sensitive and eczema-prone skin.

Smooth and creamy, Derma B Creamy Touch Body Wash lathers well with lots of foam. I enjoyed gentle body washes and based on the description, I thought this might be a great one. However, when I first feel the texture, I was alittle worried that it might be drying and indeed, it was. 

I tried Creamy Touch Body Wash for the first week, using it twice a day and it has a subtle hint of drying effect but not overly so. Its not a deal breaker as I can still use it but I always like to tweak things a little bit if a product does not suit me initially. 

On the second week, I added Derma B Mild Moisture Body Lotion to my body care routine and the difference has been astounding after 3 days of usage. 

I no longer feel that slightly drying effect and everything has been perfect. Using Derma B Mild Moisture Body Lotion has added moisture back to my dry skin and even if I skip the product occasionally and just using the Creamy Touch Body Wash alone, my skin still feels good, clean and soft. 

No wonder, the Mild Moisture Body Lotion was quoted as " One Application, Double Hydration! Once you’ve heard about it and once you’ve used it, you will likely never use another moisturizer again." 

In terms of ingredients, Derma B Creamy Touch Body Wash ( and all Derma B products ) is fortified with MLE Moisturizing Science which not only increases moisturization, but also helps skin retain moisture. The MLE Technology uses plant derivatives to lock in moisture and help restore healthy skin, especially for those with stretched, cracked and eczema-prone skin. 

Infused with Lecithin from soybeans, Shea Butter, Sweet Almond Oil and Grape Seed Oil to add moisture, the body wash also contains Panthenol to soothe and Hinoki Cypress Water for additional hydration.

Cocamidopropyl Betaine (CAPB) is a naturally-derived surfactant that is sourced from coconut oil but unfortunately, I just realized that products using CAPB tends to be slightly drying for my skin type hence this could be the reason why this body wash was slightly drying initially. That said, given a choice, I usually choose this over Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES). 

Shea Butter : Helps soften skin and has anti-inflammatory and healing properties

Grape Seed Oil : Shiny, antioxidant.

Vitamin B5 : Water lock.

Lecithin : Makes skin feel smooth by restoring hydration

If your skin does not react to Cocamidopropyl Betaine, then this Body Wash would be a great choice for you! The contents ooze out easily with just light depressions on the tube. Initially, I did not fancy the overpowering scent, it was strong and unpleasant making it a struggle to use it every morning but I was accustomed to it after awhile.
