[ Review ] Kao Curel Intensive Moisture Care Moisture Repair Sheet Mask

I redeemed a sheet of  Curel Intensive Moisture Care Moisture Repair Sheet Mask during a sampling campaign by Kao. Kao's product range can be wide-ranging. Some of the interesting and popular products I have tried are Kao Megurhythm Steam Hot Eye Mask, Kao Rerise Hair Colour and Kao Biore Tegotae Eye Mask. 

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Each box comes with 4 individually packed sheet masks. The size is large and generous with excess material at edges of face and with its sturdy thick material, the adherence isn't as great as those sheer material, opening up at the jaws area. It has a naturally occurring scent

How To Use : 

1) With clean hands, apply sheet mask after hydrating skin with facial moisture lotion. 

2) Peel off the sachet, unfold the mask and apply it tightly to the entire face. 

3) Tear off the flexible care sheet to cover any remaining gaps on the face. 

4) Remove the sheet mask after about 10-15 minutes.  

5) Gently spread the remaining essence on your face with the palm of your hand. 

6) After the essence is absorbed into the skin, apply your daily moisturizer.

Made in Japan, Curel Intensive Moisture Care Moisture Repair Sheet Mask has no added fragrance, no added colorant, no added alcohol and is dermatologically tested.

The cutting is great but the adherence can be better with its quality hydrophillic material. The wings at the bottom of the sheet mask is a thoughtful touch as you can tear it to cover other uncovered areas.

It comes with bonus eye flaps that helped to soothe the eye area. After a 20 minute masking session, my skin was much hydrated with a subtle brightening effect. 

Note that there are 2 "handles" at the top of the sheet mask ( near to the temple ) for easy removal, which reminded me vaguely of Innisfree My Real Squeeze masks.

[ Review ] : Kao Biore Tegotae Eye Mask

Patches to wear at night while you sleep. Suitable for anyone who is concerned about the lack of hydration below the eyes and around the mouth. Deliver moisture deep into the horny layer all night. Eliminates fine lines caused by dry skin. Moisture until morning with high adhesion and supple fitting design.

I purchased a box of Kao Biore Tegotae Eye Mask from Dokodemo which reminded me vaguely of Morishita Ravis Overnight Eye Mask that did not work out for me, however, I am willing to take a chance with Kao, hoping that this may work better on me. Unfortunately, they weere still as bad. 

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Kao Biore Tegotae Eye Mask comes in a pretty blue box with 8 pairs of individually packed overnight eye masks. Each pair of eye mask is dry with no fragrance but has a hint of the glue adhesive scent ( adhesive used as the backing ). 

The light foamy-cushiony material is generous in size which covers a large undereye area. The adhesive backing ensures that it sticks well on the undereye area with no sliding movement so that you can sleep in peace.   

How to use : 

1) After washing your face, peel off the transparent film and apply it to the skin. 

2) Touch it lightly to prevent air from entering between the skin and the pack. 

3) Take a rest overnight with the patches attached and peel it off the next morning. 

note : Although it is effective even for about 1 hour, it is more effective when used overnight (about 6-8 hours). Recommend daily use, especially when you feel dry.

Nutritional and hormonal factors can affect hair colour as well as stress but, by and large, the predisposition to go grey earlier or later in life is genetic. I redeemed a set of 45ml each and has been using this for more than a week. Both products has an almost similar floral scent.
The shampoo, with a silicon-y lightweight consistency in its white pearly colour contents lathers pretty well and gives softness to the hair. The conditioner, with a thick creamy consistency makes the hair silky smooth and tangle-free. 

In terms of ingredients, note that Ammonium Laureth Sulfate (ALS) is similar to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES). All of them are surfactants to give rise to foam and have a similar risk as identified by EWG, contaminated with 1,4 dioxane, a carcinogenic by-product. You can also read more about it here.

Review : Kao Megurhythm Steam Hot Eye Mask (Light Lavender)

It's an innovative and popular eye care product in Japan! This disposable eye pad generates a moderate heat (40 C) to warm, refresh and relieve stress of your eye areas. Suitable for everyone who spends long hour in working or internet surfing. This portable eye pad instantly comforts and soothes fatigued eyes. It also helps to improve blood circulation for reducing puffy eyes and dark circles.

I first picked up this product from Sasa Hong Kong at HKD38 for 5 pieces, not knowing that it can generate heat. Several months later, it seemed to be a popular item on Singapore shores.
Whats so phenomenal is that, it is a heat generating eye mask that has several scents to soothe your senses and depuff your eyes.

I picked mine in Lavender scent which is soothing and relaxing. It comes individually wrapped and once opened, you can hook the eye mask easily behind the ears with the ear hooks. Its quite loose fitting, so I tend to use my fingers to press it alittle closer to my eyes.

It can be used on the plane or before sleeping. I wore mine to bed and like to sleep with it though I do wake up to remove it. Its very comfortable and the heat sensation is just warm, not scalding hot. The mask is dry and there is no dripping mess on the bed. Once you had it on, the temperature starts to rise and reach a saturating point for a while. Even though its recommended to be used for 10 minutes but I thought it was quite a waste to throw it away since its still hot. I threw away my first one after using it for 10minutes.
For the subsequent masks, I had it on for 30minutes and its still hot after I remove it.

However do note that, because it generates heat, there will be some beads of water droplets between the eye area covered by the mask due to the steam, like water vapour.

Aesthetically, its not that appealing because it looks like a sanitary pad in certain angles. Hopefully they will improve the design, but then again, who cares since I am the only one using it at home.

I like the interesting concept and I was hoping that the warm sensation will help to reduce the dark circles and eye bags after a good blood circulation from the generated heat but sadly it does not seem to work effectively on me. The only function is that it relaxes the eye area after a long day.

Kao Megurhythm Steam Hot Eye Mask

I tried the Rose fragrance and the experience is similar except for the difference in fragrance.

I received a complimentary Lavender sample and realized there seemed to be a change in formulation. Other than the lavender scent, there is another chemical scent like that of Iron. Very unpleasant!

Review : Kao Biore Aqua Jelly Makeup Remover

Product Description
Biore Aqua Jelly Makeup Remover – the first makeup remover in jelly format. The smooth serum –like texture spreads easily to remove makeup even waterproof mascara with less tugging and helps to cushion the skin from an otherwise harsh cleansing motion. Contains 1/3 of moisturising essence, Aqua Jelly makeup remover nourishes and hydrates skin for a moist and dewy finish. Removing makeup has never been so easy.

I owned a 20ml size which you can redeem from here. I use it as mainly as a make-up remover which has a pleasant gel-like texture that appears to be oily when it was on dry skin.
It feels like cleansing oil ( in a thicker texture), rather than the purported jelly texture. It cleanse off all make-up gunk easily and splashes of water later, my face is just clean and fresh, without any hint of greasiness.
It has a light fruity scent and while it is touted as non-drying, I do feel a taut after-feel ocassionally.

I used it once around the eyes ( using my fingers) , to remove the eye-makeup since its stated on the bottle that its able to do so. None of the contents get into my eyes so that was a relief, however because I usually prefer to use water-based products with a cotton pad near my eyes, I don't really enjoy using this method.

With this jelly make-up remover, I just pour some contents onto my palms, massage into my fingers and apply gently all over the eyes and eyelashes and all gunk came off easily. Note that I am not using waterproof eye make-up. It certainly feels abit weird to be using it without cotton pads and I was so afraid that it may get into my eyes but nothing drastic happens, though I would still prefer to use it as a face make-up remover, in my personal preference.

I also tried using it on the cotton pads although thats not the rcommended method as stated on their packaging. The jelly feels dry on the cotton pads and is difficult to glide on my eye area. It removes a little of the eye make-up but not all. Definitely not the correct way.

I had this for a while, before they changed their packaging. It was something I do not need at that time, but since I had a coupon and didn't know what to get from Guardian, I just picked this up. It was retailing for $10.90 for this 60ml size.
I am almost done with it, after more than a month of daily usage.

Contrary to what a serum should be, the lightweight texture of this day essence is like a lotion, very fluid and gets absorbed into the hair easily.  After application, my hands are not greasy and the hair does not look or feel oily. It gives a nice moisturised look to the damaged hair ends.
For the first 2 to 3 weeks, I did not feel that it does anything much to my hair, my wavy ( dying curls ) hair still looks unruly and frizzy, but I start to see a slight improvement in the 4th week onwards. My hair becomes more manageable and looks less unruly.
However, it does not hold or define the curls, which is understandable since this product is not supposed to do that anyway.
For the price, its decent enough for folks who just need a serum for daily maintenance, however do note that it does contain alcohol.

In terms of ingredients, the 6th ingredient : Ethylhyxyl Methoxycinnamate is an active ingredient in OTC sunscreen products. It is used in products that are applied to the skin to absorb, reflect or scatter UV rays; it protects the skin from sunburn and other damaging effects of the sun.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted an OTC drug review of Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate and did approve it for use in OTC sunscreens up to a concentration of 7.5%. However, it has been known to produce excess reactive oxygen species that can interfere with cellular signaling, cause mutations, and lead to cell death. This reaction may also be implicated in cardiovascular disease. (source)
