Review : Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution

Product Description
The benchmark micelle solution that daily cleanses and removes make-up from sensitive skin. Specially formulated for sensitive, normal to dry skin, the Sensibio H2O micelle solution gently cleanses face and eyes. It removes water-resistant make-up.

The micelles contained in its formula effectively micro-emulsify impurities while maintaining the skin’s balance (soap-free, physiological pH). Soothing and decongesting active ingredients prevent the feelings of irritation often caused by cleansing. Sensibio H2O guarantees excellent cutaneous and ocular tolerance (tested under ophthalmological supervision).

Bioderma has 4 micellar water variants:
Sensibio H20 for sensitive skin
Hydrabio H20 for dehydrated skin
Sebium H20 for skin that experiences oiliness
ABCDerm H20 for babies

I first purchased a sample kit back in 2012 where a 20ml size of the Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution was included. It was a great way for me to try out some of their awesome products before investing in the full size.

Since then, I have been purchasing the full retail size and using it almost daily. The cleansing water is Fragrance-free, Alcohol-free and does not contain Phenoxyethanol ( a known irritant and possible carcinogen ). Note that Phenoxythanol has always been a controversial ingredient, you can refer to this research study assessing its safety.

Hailing from France, Bioderma is said to use highly purified water in its formulations which is of the same quality as medical water that is used for injections. Unlike cosmetic-quality water, highly purified water is free of endotoxins which can penetrate skin and may cause inflammation. Biotherm Micelle Solution also contains natural sugars to further reduce skin irritation and cell damage and prevent inflammation.

Generally, micellar water is made up of water, moisturising agents and mild cleansers. The cleansing molecules band together working like magnets which scoop up makeup and dirt. When you pour a generous amount of micellar water onto a cotton pad and swipe it across your face, it mops up all the unpleasant stuff with minimal rubbing. It doesn’t irritate or dry out skin, but leaves it clean and refreshed instead.

Sensibio, the original variant of Bioderma’s H2O micellar water, was specifically formulated to deeply cleanse and soothe sensitive, reactive skin. It can remove long-wearing makeup, sebum, dead skin cells, toxins from perspiration, and dirt and pollutant particles that have accumulated on skin, even on the delicate eye contours. Its pH of 5.5 is in perfect harmony with the skin.

I love Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution for its gentle, non-irritating, non-greasy and effective formula. It feels and looks like water but removes all the face and eye make-up with 2 cotton pads in just 1 step. It does not irritate my skin or leave a layer of greasiness behind.

Do note that since I use light makeup, I cannot guarantee that it can remove very heavy and waterproof make-up, however, it can remove my sunscreen, BB Cream, loose powder, eyeliner and mascara without much issue. I don't even have to buy a separate eye make-up remover.

I usually use Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution as a first cleanse and follow up with my regular cleanser as the 2nd cleanse. It is my habit to do double-cleansing.

The only downside is that the large size bottle is cumbersome and due to the cap, the contents cannot be decanted to a smaller bottle for portability. Perhaps their packaging team can do something about it?

It scored 4.3 on Makeupalley from 994 reviewers. That proved something, isn't it?
