[ Review ] : MizuMi Smooth Cleansing Water

Product Description
MizuMi Smooth Cleansing Water reduces surface tension between cotton pad and your skin. It has innovative texture that gives smooth, easy-to-wipe feeling, reducing the chance of skin damage and early signs of aging. Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.

I purchased MizuMi Cleansing Water for 129 baht when I was in Bangkok last December as the 5-Free and 100% oil-free attributes attracted me. Only the 100ml size was available so I got that.

Micellar (pronounced my-sell-er) water is a combination of purified water; hydrating ingredients, such as glycerin; and low concentrations of extremely mild surfactants, according to cosmetic chemist Joseph Cincotta.

"The molecules of those mild surfactants naturally group together to form microscopic spheres called micelles, which act like magnets for dirt and oil," Cincotta explains. When you wipe a cotton ball soaked with the cleanser along your face, the micelles adhere to the cotton while pulling makeup, sebum, and any other daily unpleasantness off the skin. The formulas are so light and gentle that there's no need to rinse them off, which means that the moisturizing ingredients can stay behind to be absorbed.

Packaging , Scent and Texture 

I first came across the brand on Instagram and when I chanced upon it in Bangkok, it was apt that I purchased this as I always have a soft spot for cleansing water.

Made in Thailand, MizuMi Smooth Cleansing Water is touted like a one-step cleansing where the product can removes ( makeup ), cleanses, tones and moisturizes. It works on water-resistant sunscreen and makeup too. It is free from fragrance, oil, paraben, alcohol and synthetic colors.

Housed in a simple plastic bottle, the smooth cleansing water is clear like water and has a light sticky sensation with not much of a scent. When I first use the cleansing water to cleanse off the makeup on my face, I felt that there was a hint of oily film left behind on skin but subsequent usages did not have such a feel.

Performance and Ingredients

MizuMi Smooth Cleansing Water works well as a makeup remover - I use it mainly on sunscreen and light makeup and it has been effective to remove all traces of makeup with cotton pads but I have not attest it on eyeliner and eye makeup as I have not been applying them during the circuit breaker period.

That said, I have not use it like a toner or even skip my moisuriser because of using this, as to me, I treat MizuMi Smooth Cleansing Water strictly like a makeup remover and still follow up with my regular cleanser and skincare routine.

There is a slight stickiness left behind but I have no issue with that, since I would be using a cleanser thereafter. However, there was a zit on my chin for the first day of usage. I stopped using the cleansing water immediately and only returned to using it after the zit subsided but unfortunately, another new zit came up on the chin again, right after using it on that day. Thankfully, by the 3rd round of returning back to using it ( after the 2nd zit subsided ), there was no more new zit.

This is a gentle makeup remover which I reckon would be great for sensitive skin.

Conclusion

To conclude, MizuMi Smooth Cleansing Water works well as a makeup remover for light makeup and is gentle enough for sensitive skin. If not for the zits, I wouldn't mind repurchasing it, as a cheaper alternative to my holy grail Bioderma Micellar Water. That said, I would still prefer my Bioderma Micellar Water any time, as it has lesser ingredients and felt more gentle with a lighter texture.

It is said to hydrate and repair, with whitening and anti-wrinkle benefits due to a vitamin complex ( Vitamin B3, B5 & C ) with Hyaluronic Acid and EGF ( Epidermal Growth Factor ) as well as a patented ingredient, ELL-6 Perfect ( Aureobasidium Pullulans Ferment) for anti-inflammation, antioxidant, skin renewal, whitening and hydration. All the ingredients used are EWG Green with 0-2 score.

I have been looking out for cleansing milk and decided to return back to using Clarins Cleansing Milk with Alpine Herbs which I have used back in 2012 as a makeup remover. Its been a while since I last used Clarins' products so its time to revisit the brand.

It was a complimentary 100ml travel size ( from a member's event ) I tried back in 2012 and now I purchased the full retail size in 200ml. What I like about Clarins is that, they are always generous in giving out sample sizes, which allowed me to know the products that are suitable for me.

Packaging Scent and Texture

Made in France, Clarins Cleansing Milk with Alpine Herbs does not contain sulfates and phthalates.
It comes in a 200ml clear bottle with a flick top cap. The fragrance is strong which is a minus for me as fragrances do not contribute any skin benefits except for a false scent of relaxation. It would be better if the fragrance comes naturally from the ingredients.

The white texture is creamy with a medium consistency that doubled up as a makeup remover cum cleanser. I mainly use cleansing milks as a cleanser as I prefer micellar water to remove makeup.

I like that the dispenser hole dispenses just the right amount of contents without much wastage

How To Use
Apply using the Clarins professional cleansing method:
1) Warm the Cleansing Milk between the palms of your hands to bring it up to skin temperature.
2) Apply by simple contact using the entire surface of the hands. Do not apply pressure.
3) Lay the hands flat on the face and neck and remove hands briskly as if the skin were burning hot.
4) Repeat 7 times: the cleansing milk will thicken and sponge away make-up and impurities without irritating or disturbing the tissue.
5) Rinse or wipe off. Apply toner to finish.

Performance and Ingredients

Rich in plant extracts, Clarins Cleansing Milk with Alpine Herbs is said to remove makeup and softens the skin. So far, with the Covid-19 situation, I have not been wearing makeup so I can't attest to its efficacy for this period but I have tried it back in 2012 primarily as a makeup remover and it was pretty effective. However, the name and the ingredients have changed slightly so it would not be a fair comparison.

For this cleansing milk, I use it as a double cleanser - first as a makeup remover to remove sunscreen and the second cleanse as a cleanser. However, my main use for this, is still a regular cleanser.

There is a recommended Clarins Professional Method to using the cleansing milk which I have highlighted above, however, it seems complicated and takes up alot of time so I use it the way I usually use for cleansers and it worked as well.

Conclusion 

To conclude, due to the overwhelming fragrance, Clarins Cleansing Milk with Alpine Herbs may not be suitable for every one, especially for those with sensitive nose or skin. But if you can get past the fragrance, the cleansing milk is a good gentle cleanser which can do double duty, as a makeup remover or as a cleanser. And if you have dehydrated skin, you might even adore this!

[ Review ] : Skylake Botanical Body Wash

I purchased Skylake Botanical Body Wash 300ml from Hebeloft late last year but now, I can't find this product on their website or anywhere. Their current body wash is named differently - Skylake Oriental Herb Body Cleanser.

Made in Korea, Skylake boasts of natural oriental herb power to soothe, hydrate and empower the skin’s natural healing abilities to renew its appearance. I have previously used and enjoyed Skylake Herbal Mask Pack, Skylake Elastic Mask Pack and Skylake Oriental Mask Pack.

Housed in a clear plastic bottle with a pump dispenser, Skylake Botanical Body Wash has a calming herbal scent. It foams slightly but unfortunately, it is slightly drying to the skin since Day 1.

The description on the back of bottle is all written in Korean language, so I can't share much about the instructions and ingredients. However, from the drawings on the bottle, the body wash contains Wormwood, Dang Quai, Peppermint, Cnidium, Baekji and Liquorice, and in the light yellow contents, there are 2 pieces of herbs floating in it.

Wormwood comes from its traditional use as a means to cleanse the body of harmful organisms while Dong Quai ( also known as Angelica Sinensis ) can help in skin allergies and Liquorice improves skin discolouration.

To conclude, while I enjoyed products with herbs and how calming the scent can be, I won't repurchase this body wash since its slightly drying.

[ Review ] : Beauty Buffet Scentio Very Thai Tamarind Body Scrub

I purchased Scentio Very Thai Tamarind Body Scrub from Beauty Buffet in Bangkok last December and was incredibly thankful that I came back to Singapore just before the pandemic started.

Beauty Buffet is Thailand's prime skin care brand. It integrates between the concept of breakfast buffet and cosmetic retail sales in order to create an outstanding uniqueness. It has wide array of products ranging from face mask, face scrub, face serum, body mask, body scrub, body serum, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Not only do the products have buffet style ingredients and variety to choose from, but also they are packed with advanced treatments that give the skin a complete care. Packaging, Scent and Texture

Scentio Very Thai Tamarind Body Scrub comes in a plastic tub that contains the brown creamy contents of the body scrub. The Tamarind scent is rather distinct and you may or may not like it. Considering the beauty benefits of Tamarind, I would think the scent is a small factor to not using it.

It took me awhile to get used to the scent and now I actually found to be pretty calming in a sweet cloying way.

Performance and Ingredients

The body scrub has a thick creamy texture that doesn't seem to glide well on skin. In fact, you have to use some effort to apply the scrub all over the body for a good scrubbing experience.

After every body scrub session, it made my skin slightly smoother ( or sometimes no difference at all ) but not super smooth, unlike other body scrubs.

Nearing to the end of the contents, I realized that the scrub provided a better exfoliation, giving rise to smoother skin. I think it could be how the contents are scooped up as the exfoliation "beads" were probably sunk right at the bottom to be able to provide a good scrub.

That said, Scentio Very Thai Tamarind Body Scrub may just suit sensitive skin as its non-abrasive at all.

The key ingredient, Tamarind is loaded with antioxidants that protect your skin from the harmful free radicals and possesses wound healing properties. They also contain anti-inflammatory properties to kill bacteria and restore the protective balance of the skin, helping to fight irritation, rash and itching. The alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) properties in Tamarind, known for their exfoliating abilities help to exfoliate the skin, making it soft and smooth.

Conclusion

To conclude, Scentio Very Thai Tamarind Body Scrub has a distinct scent with a creamy texture that does not glide well on skin initially so it does not give rise to super smoother skin like what I hope for.

However, nearer to the end of the contents, the runny liquids sunk at the bottom provided a better exfoliation than before, hence skin was so much smoother.

I won't repurchase the product but if you are looking for a non-abrasive body scrub, this may be what you have been looking for!

I am a fan of Tea Tree Oil and Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Oil 100% Pure Multipurpose Liquid has been my zit-zapper for years, to combat that occasional zit during that time of the month hence I was pretty open to trying out Naruko Tea Tree Anti-Acne Sunscreen SPF50.

Naruko Tea Tree Anti-Acne Sunscreen SPF50 comes in a pretty 30ml green bottle that certainly reminds one of Tea Tree. It has a distinct Tea Tree scent so if you are not a fan of it, you might not enjoy using the product.

Made in USA, Leahlani Skincare Meli Glow Illuminating Nectar Mask is 100% natural using organic botanicals, clays and delicious tropical fruits with pure organic hawaiian nectars. Cruelty-free, Meli Glow does not contain toxins, fillers, artificial fragrances and carcinogens.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Housed in a 50ml jar with a gorgeous gold-accented cap, Meli Glow Illuminating Nectar Mask is suited for all skin types, but is especially beneficial for dry, combination and mature skin.

The sweet honey scent smells so delicious that its almost edible. Runny in texture, it applies easier on dry skin than the recommended damp skin.

How To Use :
Massage a teaspoon of mask into clean, damp skin until evenly distributed. Sit pretty for 5-15 minutes and rinse well with warm water.

Performance and Ingredients

The application perplexes me though. According to instructions, Leahlani Meli Glow Illuminating Nectar Mask is recommended to be used on clean damp skin however due to its runny and sticky texture, using the mask on damp skin makes the whole texture runny and when its runny, its tickling - just imagine the runny contents threatening to drip down to your eyelids or into your nostrils or dribbling down your neck, do you get the drift? It makes me want to rinse it off immediately, instead of waiting for another 5 - 15 minutes.

Even using Meli Glow on dry skin can sometimes be slightly ticklish too, so imagine using it on damp skin, its going to be 2x worse. I tend to stir the contents so that the texture won't be that runny and ticklish. I would then apply it on dry skin which works better for me. Wait 15 minutes before rinsing it off.

Meli GLOW is said to help plump the skin cells, deeply nourish and gently exfoliate the skin, helping to promote a more even skin tone while unveiling that 'aloha GLOW'

I used up the mask in about 5 months with weekly usage and my skin is always very soft, smooth, more even-toned accompanied with a brightening glow. It doesn't dry up so there is no tight or heavy feeling during the masking session.

That said, do note that even though I kept Meli Glow in its original box and in my drawer, some of the contents messed up the box slightly and the ants got onto the scent and into the box. Imagine my horror when I saw the ants around and inside the box, thank goodness they didn't get into the jar but I I still ended up cleaning the whole drawer filled with other skincare products. Once I kept Meli Glow in a ziplock bag together with Honey Love, it solved the ants issue.

Each Meli Glow Illuminating Nectar Mask use is said to help to strengthen the barrier of the skin, delivering a bountiful dose of active enzymes and antioxidant rich oils that will hydrate your skin and leave you with a supple and unbelievably soft complexion. The mask contains Hyaluronic Acid to help boost elasticity and tone the skin, helping to fill in fine lines and wrinkles and ‘plump’ out the skin cells. It is also high in Vitamin C which absorbs easily into the deeper tissues of the skin, helping to combat cellular aging.

Conclusion

Get Leahlani Skincare Meli Glow Illuminating Nectar Mask if you are looking for smooth, supple, even-toned skin with a brightening glow! I would repurchase this if not for the price.

As Meli Glow contains Kaolin, I tend to avoid using Honey Love or any AHA products on the same day as Meli Glow so as to avoid drying my skin, hence I only use it weekly for my combination skin with surface dehydration.

Please note that Meli GLOW has since been updated with two new beautiful tropical oils in her formulation, Acai and Papaya Oil. The amount of Hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C have increased— making her even more effective at plumping the skin cells, deeply nourishing and brightening the complexion.

Previously, I had a great experience with Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask which doubled up as a moisturiser for me but had a poor experience with Origins Mega Mushroom Skin Relief Mask which did nothing to my skin hence I wasn't holding much expectations from this Retexturizing Mask With Rose Clay but boy! how wrong was I! This was such an amazing mask!

Packaging Scent and Texture

Origins Original Skin Retexturizing Mask With Rose Clay comes in a tube or in pod forms which are great for travelling. Mine comes in the 10ml pod which enabled me to use up to 5 times. It is originally meant to be used once but it was alittle too much for my skin, so I separated it to several weeks of usage as I only use it once weekly. Just be reminded to keep it in an air tight container to prevent the creamy mask being dried up. I usually store it in those empty round eye mask tubs like the one featured here - another way of repurposing them!
