Hyaah Perfect Layering Sun Lotion Review
Product Description
Hyaah Perfect Layering Sun Lotion SPF50 PA++++ is a sunscreen that should be applied day and night, for all ages and genders. It provides 12-hour protection with just one application and can be layered two to three times without clumping or caking.

I had good experiences with Hyaah products such as Hyaah All In One Ectoin LotionHyaah Synergy Mask Pad and Hyaah Licorice First Essence so I was happy to be able to try out Hyaah Perfect Layering Sun Lotion, gifted by Stylekorean some time back, without any obligation to review it.

I started using this sunscreen after finishing both Melixir Vegan Airfit Sunscreen SPF50 PA++++ and Isntree Onion Newpair Sunscreen SPF 40 PA+++, making it a good opportunity to see how it compares as an everyday sunscreen for Singapore's humid weather.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Hyaah Perfect Layering Sun Lotion comes in a 40ml squeeze tube, making it easy to dispense just the right amount of product. It has a light floral fragrance that is pleasant without being overpowering.

Hyaah Perfect Layering Sun Lotion Texture

The sunscreen has a white, lightweight lotion texture that spreads effortlessly across the skin. According to Hyaah, its unique "skin-light" formula may occasionally feel thinner than expected. If that happens, the brand recommends shaking the tube two to three times before dispensing the product again.

How To Use :
Apply several layers to the skin after your basic skincare routine.
It can also be used as a primer to improve the adhesion of make-up.
Reapply frequently to areas that need sun protection.

Performance and Ingredients

On my very first application, I experienced a slight stinging sensation around my nostrils. I suspect this was because my skin barrier was slightly dehydrated that day, as I did not experience any irritation during subsequent applications. However, do take note, if you have dry, dehydrated or weakened skin barrier before applying this sunscreen.

The standout feature of this sunscreen is its lightweight, lotion-like texture. It glides smoothly over the skin, absorbs quickly, and doesn't tug or pill, however despite its lightweight consistency, it leaves behind a moisturising finish.

On my combination skin in Singapore's humid climate, however, the finish was quite dewy, making my face appear noticeably shinier than I personally prefer. For this reason, I found myself using it more often on my neck and arms rather than my face.

There is no visible white cast on my fair skin. However, the formula contains Tinosorb M, a UV filter that can sometimes leave a slight cast on medium to deeper skin tones. If you have a darker complexion, it would be worthwhile to patch test first to see how it blends on your skin.

For added peace of mind, the Hyaah Perfect Layering Sun Lotion has been independently tested to verify that it delivers its advertised SPF 50+ and PA++++ broad-spectrum UV protection, giving you confidence that the level of sun protection matches its claims.

Hyaah Perfect Layering Sun Lotion Tested

Hyaah Perfect Layering Sun Lotion contains 4 UV filters....

Hyaah Perfect Layering Sun Lotion UV filters

Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate : A new generation, chemical sunscreen agent with high UVA protection and high photostability. Also known as Uvinul A Plus.

Ethylhexyl Triazone : A new generation, chemical sunscreen that gives the highest photo-stable absorption of all available UVB filters today. Also known as Octyl Triazone and Uvinul T 150.

Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol : Also known as Tinosorb M, this is a "hybrid" sunscreen meaning it's half-way between physical (the ones that, at least partly, reflect the sun) and chemical agents (that absorb the rays, which most sunscreens do).  It is a new generation UV filter and gives a nice broad-spectrum coverage (280-400 nm, meaning UVB as well as UVA protection) and is highly photostable. It can also help to stabilize other less stable sunscreens, like Octinoxate and work well with other UV-filters.

The safety profile of Tinosorb M is great. It is not absorbed into the skin unlike some other chemical sunscreens and does not show estrogenic activity. However, Tinosorb M leaves a white cast on the skin that can be bothersome on darker skin tones.

Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone : A chemical sunscreen agent that's very oil soluble and requires relatively low concentrations to achieve high SPF values. Particularly suitable for water-repellent and water-resistant formulations, it is super photostable where it loses 10% of its SPF protection abilities only in 25 hours when 2 hours counts already as "photostable" in the world of chemical sunscreens. Also known as Iscotrizinol.

For the uninitiated,
UVA - Long wave ultraviolet A (UVA) rays penetrate deep into the dermis, the skin's thickest layer and causes premature skin aging, wrinkling and dark spots.
UVB - Short wave ultraviolet B (UVB) rays burn the superficial layers of the skin and is the main cause of sunburn and skin cancer.
PA - More + signs mean longer protection against UVA
SPF - Higher numbers mean longer protection against UVB

Conclusion

To conclude, Hyaah Perfect Layering Sun Lotion is best suited for those with normal to dry skin or anyone who enjoys a radiant, dewy finish. If you have combination or oily skin like mine, especially in a humid climate, you may find the finish a little too shiny for everyday facial use, although it performs well on the neck and body thanks to its comfortable, lightweight texture.
