Despite its creamy appearance, the formula feels surprisingly lightweight and spreads effortlessly across the skin without feeling heavy with a light cooling sensation during application. It has a noticeable typical sunscreen scent, which may not appeal to those who prefer fragrance-free sun protection. There is also a slight tackiness immediately after application, although it becomes less noticeable once the product has set.
How To Use :

The finish is dewy rather than matte, leaving a healthy-looking glow. However, on my combination skin, it also creates a noticeable shine. Applying the recommended amount for adequate sun protection makes the glossy finish even more pronounced. Fortunately, a light dusting of loose powder helps tone down the shine and gives my skin a more natural finish.

Homosalate : An organic compound that belongs to salicylates. It is an ester formed from salicylic acid and 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol, a derivative of cyclohexanol. Salicylates prevent direct skin exposure to the sun’s harmful rays by absorbing ultraviolet (UV) light. Homosalate specifically absorbs short-wave UVB rays, which are associated with DNA damage and increased risk of skin cancer.
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate : Often listed on sunscreen products as Octinoxate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (also called Octyl Methoxycinnamate) is used in products that are applied to the skin to absorb, reflect or scatter UV rays; it protects the skin from sunburn and other damaging effects of the sun. Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate also protects cosmetics and personal care products from deterioration caused by UV rays and allows them to last longer in high UV conditions.
Octyl Salicylate : Ethylhexyl Salicylate ( also known as Ethylhexyl Salicylate or Octisalate ) is an organic compound used as an ingredient in sunscreens and cosmetics to absorb UVB (ultraviolet) rays from the sun. Although the Cosmetics Ingredient Review notes that reproductive and developmental toxicity can occur in relation to Salicylic Acid, one of the two primary components of Ethylhexyl Salicylate, it has determined that the levels used in cosmetic and beauty products would not cause any adverse reaction. Importantly, the FDA has approved Ethylhexyl Salicylate for use in sunscreen with up to 5% concentration. Ethylhexyl Salicylate receives an EWG hazard rating of 4.
Octocrylene : It protects the skin against short UVA and long UVB rays, however from a research study, Octocrylene appears to be a strong allergen leading to contact dermatitis in children and mostly photoallergic contact dermatitis in adults with an often-associated history of photoallergy from ketoprofen.
Avobenzone : Also known as Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, it appears to be relatively non-toxic and non-irritating to the skin. However, because it is often used in conjunction with photo-stabilizers, there is a greater risk for skin irritation and low-level toxicity. Furthermore, some studies have demonstrated it to be absorbed by the body and secreted into urine, and is therefore not recommended to use on children or pregnant women
However tests have revealed Avobenzone’s tendency to significantly degrade in light over time, lessening its sun protection capabilities. For this reason, most sunscreens containing the ingredient also include photo-stabilizing ingredients like octocrylene.
Do note that the ingredient list also contains Butyloctyl Salicylate, another chemical UV filter not registered as a sunscreen active yet.
Butyloctyl Salicylate : Helps to increase the SPF rating and enhance the stability of other UV filters like Oxybenzone and Avobenzone. It is not reef-safe. Currently not registered as a sunscreen active yet.
Said to be the modified version of the chemical UV filter Octisalate which was created intentionally by the sunscreen industry to avoid having Octislate on the ingredient listing as a declared active and used by formulators to disguise the presence of a ‘chemical’ UV filter in mineral sunscreen formulas. However, if you have combination or oily skin, you may find the dewy finish a little too shiny, especially when applying the recommended amount of sunscreen. Those who are sensitive to fragrance may also prefer a sunscreen with little to no scent.
Overall, I think the Isntree Onion Newpair Sunscreen SPF 40 PA+++ is better suited for those with normal to dry skin or anyone who enjoys a radiant, glowy finish. I am not a fan of the noticeable shine and sunscreen fragrance hence it isn't a sunscreen I would personally repurchase.
