[ Review ] : Dr. Lewinns Private Formula Sensitive Cleansing Milk

This is my first foray into Dr. Lewinns products, despite seeing them in several Australia pharmacies and was tempted to get them but I got other brands instead. I have a soft spot for cleansing milks so when Dr. Lewinns Private Formula Sensitive Cleansing Milk was on sale in SASA, I purchased a bottle to try out. Thankfully, the product did not disappoint me.

Dr. Lewinns has several lines - Essentials, Private Formula, Eternal Youth, Ultra R4, Reversaderm and Line Smoothing Complex S8. I got mine in the Private Formula. You can check out the range on their website.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Made in Australia, recommended for sensitive skin and free from parabens, sulfates and other common irritants, Dr. Lewinns Private Formula Sensitive Cleansing Milk is housed in an elegant and tall cylindrical bottle with 120ml contents. It has a sturdy small nozzle dispenser that dispenses the cleansing milk without any squirting mess. 4 pumps are usually what I need for my cleansing needs.

Initial Application

After spreading

White in colour, it has a lightweight milky consistency with a strong rose fragrance that was overpowering initially but now I have since grown accustomed to the fragrance.

Performance and Ingredients

When I first started using Dr. Lewinns Private Formula Sensitive Cleansing Milk, the rose fragrance was rather overwhelming and choking. At some point, I even have to hold my breath while pumping out the contents for usage. After awhile, I got accustomed to the fragrance and its no longer an issue now.

I like that cleansing milks can double up as both a first and second cleanse. I usually use cleansing milk as a regular cleanser as its gentle and more nourishing than foam and gel cleansers. Other than using it as a cleanser, cleansing milks are also great to be used as a make-up remover as it can help to  gently dissolve all traces of make-up and impurities without the irritation.

Dr. Lewinns Private Formula Sensitive Cleansing Milk works reasonably well as a make-up remover for the face but it can be tricky when it comes to eye make-up as there are still some remnants of the eyeliner marks when I attempted to use it as an eye makeup remover. A cotton bud does the trick but I wouldn't like cleansing milk near the eyes, to be honest.

In terms of ingredients, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder and Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Leaf Extract contain anti-aging and anti-oxidant benefits. And even though the sensitive cleansing milk is free of gluten, sulfates, parabens, silicones, polyethylene glycol (PEG) and synthetic fragrances, there are some comedogenic components, harmful alcohols, allergens and fungal acne feeding components according to Cosmily.

Conclusion

To conclude, I wouldn't mind repurchasing Dr. Lewinns Private Formula Sensitive Cleansing Milk as a gentle and nourishing cleanser! However, as a make-up remover, I still prefer my holy grail Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution.

[ Review ] : Ellips Vitamin Hair Mask With Pro-Keratin Complex

A good friend has gifted a tube of Ellips Vitamin Hair Mask With Pro-Keratin Complex after she came back from Batam.

Housed in a black and pink tube, Ellips Vitamin Hair Mask With Pro-Keratin Complex certainly looks striking in the bathroom. White with a creamy silicon-y texture, it is heavily scented and contains a high concentration of silicone( Dimethicone listed as the 3rd ingredient ) which makes hair silky smooth during washing and once dried, hair is much softer and smoother.

The mask works pretty quickly - you only need 2 minutes which is much preferred by many ladies. However, the scent is rather strong, which lingers throughout the application and on the hair till the following day.

Note that the material of the tube isn't that good as the pink coating from the exterior of the tube came off each time I was depressing it for usage.

It is recommended to use the mask once a week or as often as you need it. I tend to use it thrice a week where I applied the hair mask on the hair ends.

Ellips Vitamin Hair Mask With Pro-Keratin Complex left the hair feeling softer, smoother and detangles well, leaving very slight kinks behind. However, I don't feel that my hair is sufficiently moisturised.

In terms of ingredients, Jojoba Oil is found in the bottom 1/3 of the ingredient list so the concentration is not high. And truth to be told, too much silicone on hair care products isn't a good thing.

Silicone provides slip and shine, smooth and straighten hair, and gives hair a luxurious, conditioned feel as it is primarily used to lubricate/condition and to add shine.  Silicone makes hair that is dry and damaged look and feel like it’s healthy by filling in the porosity—what looks like frizz and split ends—and driving and locking in conditioner. It protects the hair from the elements, keeping it smooth and shiny by ‘waterproofing’ each strand.

While silicone gives the hair the illusion of shine, but it is not the shine we want—it is a fake shine from the plastic. The shine we want is when the cuticle layer is sealed and light reflects off the hair. This only happens when hair is properly hydrated and kept as healthy as possible.

Silicone will weigh the hair down, making it limp, lifeless, and, with time, very dull. It prevents moisture from penetrating the hair shaft and becomes like a magnet for dirt and other ingredients. So in essence, we get a good shine for a couple of days, but over time it will attract more buildup on the hair. With time it will dry the hair out because it won’t allow in the conditioner and it ends up sitting on the surface. Due to lack of moisture, the hair will become very brittle and could lead to frizz and breakage.

To conclude, this is an affordable silicon-laden drugstore hair mask and the effects last as long as you use it. The scent is overpowering and the moisture is insufficient so it won't be a repurchase for me.

[ Review ] : Origins Rejuvenating Cleansing Milk

I received Origins Rejuvenating Cleansing Milk in 50 ml size as a Christmas gift from a good friend some time back. Being a cleansing milk fan, I was of course elated to try out a new product. You can check out my past reviews on Origins mask and body scrub here.

Origins has several series in its skincare line and Origins Rejuvenating Cleansing Milk falls under the Make A Difference series where it is said to repair, replenish and rejuvenate dry skin with mega-moisturizing collection fortified with self-hydrating Rose of Jericho and hydrasustain complex.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Origins Rejuvenating Cleansing Milk is housed in a simple tube form which makes dispensing the white milky contents easily. The texture is like a lightweight milky lotion feel and although it was white initially but it has now oxidize to a slight yellowish colour.

Upon checking with the Origins promoter, I was told that if the cap is not closed properly, it has the tendency to oxidize but it won't affect the performance of the product. That said, I do think the cap on my product was closed properly but who knows?

I love the soothing and calming scent though, which made the cleansing experience a positive one.

Performance and Ingredients

I usually use Origins Rejuvenating Cleansing Milk as the second cleanse so I can't comment on the efficacy on makeup as I prefer to use cleansing balms or micellar water for my makeup removal.

I love nourishing gentle cleansers for my delicate skin, so Origins Rejuvenating Cleansing Milk works pretty well for me, without any tightness or sensitivity. It cleanses off with water easily too, without the need for cotton pads.

The only downside is the quick oxidization when I am just using the travel sized edition.

The brand speaks to me, because for years, I have always advocate " less is more " in my skincare routine. You would never find me using 10 products in a routine. In fact, my routine has always been simple - cleanse, tone, moisturise. And from there, add on a sunscreen in the day and a make-up remover in the night. Eye cream for both day and night. I may add on a serum for a specific need.

On top of this, I also always make sure I depleted a product before starting on a new product because I believe every product requires time to weave its magic and its never good to keep switching products as your skin may not be able to take it.

[ Review ] : Sabon Patchouli Lavender Vanilla Hand Cream

Product Description
A protective and soothing hand cream enriched with Shea Butter and Aloe-Vera to protect, relax and calm the skin. SLS and Paraben Free.

I always have a hand cream in my bag because of my perpetually dry hands due to air-conditioned office, washing and now with the over-used hand sanitiser ( because of COVID-19 ). Like eye creams, its an uphill struggle to find a hand cream that moisturise my hands deeply.

Made in Israel, Sabon is a UK brand making Skin, Hair and Bodycare products ranging from facial care, bath and shower products, hair care and hand and foot products.

I have previously used Sabon Delicate Jasmine Hand Cream but isn't too fond of the scent and tried Patchouli Lavender Vanilla Dead Sea Body Scrub where the scent is such a hit!

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Sabon Patchouli Lavender Vanilla Hand Cream 50ml comes in a pliable tube that gets ugly with long time use. It has a simple luxe vibe to it and the pretty box packaging makes it such a feminine gift for girlfriends.

Similar to the scent used in Patchouli Lavender Vanilla Dead Sea Body Scrub, I simply loved it so much. It has this soothing scent which makes one happy just thinking about it, definitely much needed in this unpredictable COVID-19 situation.

The lightweight buttery formula is white in colour and non-greasy.

Performance and Ingredients

Sabon Patchouli Lavender Vanilla Hand Cream is light in texture and readily absorbed into hands easily without any greasy after-feel. I adored the scent and don't mind reapplication, however, they are just great as a daily maintenance but not really for severely dry skin or as emergency use and definitely not made for winter weather.

One weird observation is that the packaging states that the expiry is in July 2020 ( on sticker ) but on the tube ( printed ), its stated as January 2020. Do they do that intentionally, thinking the hand cream can actually last 6 months after expiry date or just a genuine mistake? That said, most people would have believe the packaging and won't open it to check on the tube, since technically, everything should tally. Definitely not a nice experience!

I started using the hand cream in January and while I am not overly concerned about the soon-to-be expired hand cream, I do wonder if the effects would be compromised.

Conclusion

To conclude, Sabon Patchouli Lavender Vanilla Hand Cream is a decent hand cream with a heavenly scent for daily maintenance but not for someone with perpetually dry hands.

[ Review ] : Shangpree Ginseng Berry Eye Mask

Product Description

Shangpree eye masks has been gaining traction on Instagram for awhile so when I was in Korea, I took the chance to haul some back as it was relatively cheaper. If I remembered correctly, the price in Korea for this eye mask as compared to the prices from Singapore stores and international online stores can be quite discerning.

Every box comes with an authenticity checker ( in the form of a sticker ) where you can check if the product is genuine by scanning the QR code or place a magnet to it.

Peel off the authenticity sticker on the packaging and you can see a QR code ( scan it with your phone ) which brings you to a website to acknowledge if the product is genuine.

Based on the security code found on the product, it would determine if your product is genuine which mine is!

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Similar to Shangpree Marine Energy Eye Mask, Shangpree Ginseng Berry Eye Mask comes in a round tub with 60 individual pieces ( 30 pairs ), all stacked upon each other. There is a spatula provided to pick up each piece for use.

The maroon coloured crescent moon-shaped hydrogel material is glooey, slippery and flimsy so pick the pieces with care. They crumble and tear easily if your nails happen to pierce them while rearranging them on your undereye area.

The scent was alittle strong for my likes but thankfully it dissipates shortly after application.

How To Use
1. Cleanse and tone your skin.
2. Take out the masks with the enclosed spatula and place on the areas you desire.
3. Leave on for about 20 to 30 minutes.
4. Remove the masks. No need to rinse.

Performance and Ingredients

These Shangpree Ginseng Berry Eye Masks are cold and refreshing and lasted for quite awhile ( due to the hydrogel material ), even up to 1 hour where the patches would get much thinner and its time to dispose them. The recommended duration is 20 - 30 minutes but I usually layer them for up to 1 hour.

Since the essence is usually found at the bottom of the tub, the bottom stack of the eye masks are usually much wetter than the upper stack hence making the patches more slippery leading them to slide down ever so easily on the undereye area during application. Pretty annoying, to be honest.

You would be glad to know that Shangpree Ginseng Berry Eye Mask can be used in a variety of ways - on the undereye area, along the laugh lines, round the neck and even inbetween the brows! Certainly makes it a travel friendly option as well as a value-for-money purchase where you can just bring 1 tub and solve most concerns.

My concerns are mainly on the undereye area so all 30 pairs of eye masks were used there. These eye masks are great to depuff the undereye area slightly, making my eyes look less tired. You can also pop the masks in the fridge for a better depuffing effect.

Enriched with a powerful, antioxidant-rich berry blend including Cherry, Raspberry and Cranberry to defend against environmental aggressors, the treatment also uses Vitamin C and Evening Primrose to smooth out the appearance of wrinkles for an anti-ageing effect. Omega-6 fatty acids and Ginseng work in harmony to soothe any irritation or redness, creating a bright, balanced and youthful eye area.

The main ingredient is Ginseng Extract which contains phytonutrients to stimulate the very cells of the skin to contract naturally so as to help the skin fight back the effects of premature aging by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Other ingredients like Berry and Peony Complexes serve to encourage production of collagen and heal the skin in the process. Their combined antioxidant properties help to reduce the appearance of eye bags and dark circles.

Conclusion

To conclude, Shangpree Ginseng Berry Eye Mask contains pretty good ingredients and would be a great daily maintenance for those suffering from regular puffiness. They helped to depuff the area slightly and eyes looked less tired, however for someone who suffered from perpetually dry undereye area filled with fine lines and eye bags, I need something stronger.

There are 18 different sheet masks in the My Real Squeeze range but I only managed to get these 12 variants as these were the only available ones when I was in their store.

It comes in 3 levels of hydration :
- Water base: Light and Fresh
- Essence base: Deeply Hydrating
- Cream base: Intensely Nourishing

Each mask is made from 100% cellulose sheets making them thin yet strong! This helps for the essences from the masks to soak into the skin more, making sure that every little bit is effectively delivered. All of the different ingredients used for each mask are extracted with the cold brew squeeze method. This helps the masks to be full of an abundant of nutrients yet also excludes unnecessary elements that your skin doesn't need.

Innisfree My Real Squeeze Mask ( Bamboo ) is a refreshing water-type real mask, enriched with the abundant moisture of vitalising bamboo, leaving dry skin moisturised. The biodegradable material made from 100% eucalyptus fibers is lightweight, thin and sheer with 2 "dog ears" corners for ease of mask removal which is such a thoughtful touch.
