Krave Beauty contacted me recently and offered to send me their whole line of products in return for my honest reviews. Based in Korea, Krave Beauty has 5 products under their line and is founded by beauty influencer, Liah Yoo, to fight the ineffective yet conventional skincare routine that has carelessly trained us to apply more than what our skin actually needs. You can read more about it here.
Previously, it was not easy to get Krave Beauty products internationally as one can only order online in Korea but I am really happy to know that they have heard us and now ship to the US, Malaysia, and Singapore.
Do note that Matcha Hemp Cleanser is not available for purchase in Singapore and Malaysia, due to the inclusion of Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil, as it has not been officially approved for cosmetic use in Singapore and Malaysia.
Their products are cruelty-free, vegan-friendly, fragrance-free and essential oil-free.

In this post, I will share my honest reviews on Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief and Krave Beauty Oat So Simple Water Cream.
Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief is a skin-soothing serum that restores your damaged skin barrier while evening out your complexion. This nourishing formula offers irritated skin a reset button by using tamanu oil and other ingredients that mimic a healthy barrier to replenish what your skin lacks.
Like Beet The Sun, there is a creative spin on its name Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief which reminds one of Great Barrier Reef. And true to its name, every purchase of Great Barrier Relief helps protect the Great Barrier Reef. 2% of all sales from Great Barrier Relief will be donated to the Great Barrier Reef Foundation. How awesome is that?
The founder, Liah Yoo and those who have tried the product has seen great improvements in their skin. You can check out her video below which explains the product and there are also before/after pictures.
I really like how everything from the website to the video has been informative with her being clear and honest about every ingredient that goes in.
Said to provide relief to your skin's barrier, the Great Barrier Relief combines skin-repairing oils such as safflower, rosehip and tamanu with ceramides, cholesterol and squalene to keep the skin barrier intact. This ceramide rich skin-soothing serum offers a reset button to damaged skin barrier. It contains tamanu oil and ingredients that mimic a healthy skin barrier to replenish what your skin lacks and also helps to even out your complexion.
Who needs this product?
Someone who needs to press reset on their irritated skin. More specifically:
- who washes their face more than twice a day
- who overdoes skincare by using harsh acne treatments or anti-aging products too often
- whose skin is constantly dehydrated
- who has constant redness and dry patches
- who is sensitive to many skincare products
- who has chronic stress (yes, cortisol affects the skin barrier too!)
- who is looking to get rid of hyperpigmentation
- who has aging or mature skin
- anyone who intends to maintain a healthy skin barrier function
- who has skin problems associated with a damaged skin barrier
I have longed heard of the benefits of Tamanu Oil and even purchased Life Flo Pure Tamanu Oil for my body needs as the texture is too oily for my face. Imagine my delight when I found out that Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief has a lovely creamy texture. That said, being oil-based meant that you can't really escape the shine that comes with it but it beats applying 100% Tamanu Oil on your face.
Initial Application of Great Barrier Relief |
Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief is housed in a clear bottle with a pump nozzle that dispenses the light green cream texture easily. It has a nutty earthy calming scent with a slight cooling sensation. It glides well on skin, leaving a layer of an oily sheen behind. This product can be used as a serum, in replace of your moisturiser or on days when your skin is irritated.
Massaging Great Barrier Relief |
Similar to its packaging, essential information is printed in English language while the rest is in Korean language. I was pleasantly surprised that I actually depleted the 45ml bottle at a faster rate than the rest of the products. Its almost 50% down within 3 weeks of usage and that is when I used it alone. Thereafter, I mixed it with the Oat So Simple Water Cream which I would explain below.
Since I started using the Great Barrier Relief ( GBR ), I noticed that the occasional zits cleared up much faster than norm. In fact, when I just started on this product, there was a newly formed zit near to my nose which flattened within 1 day of using GBR and disappeared the following day. I also have 3 new zits on different days due to using my newly purchased MizuMi Smooth Cleansing Water and all healed within days which was amazing.
There was a subtle improvement to the my pigmentation spots on both cheeks after 1 month of twice daily usage. Hopefully with continuous usage to the end of bottle, the difference would be greater.
On optimal skin days ( no dehydration issues ), my skin is left feeling smooth and supple after each application, however, I just can't get past the oily sheen on my T-zone. My RMS "Un" Powder has mattifying properties so I can get away with it during the day but not at night. It would be a minor issue if you don't mind waking up in the morning with an oily T-zone.
For someone who is always persistent in getting the products to work, what did I do in the end? I added a tiny dollop of Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief ( GBR ) to Oat So Simple Water Cream and its a perfect combination to reducing the shine on my skin! You really need to play around with the ratio of both products as every skin type is different. For now, my perfect combination is about 1 : 3 or sometimes even 1:4, depending on my skin condition that day.
My usage routine : Dr. Lewinns Private Formula Sensitive Cleansing Milk -> May Coop Morning Dew Mist -> 1 tiny dollop of Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief mixed with ( 3x ) Krave Beauty Oat So Simple -> Krave Beauty Beet The Sun ( skip the sunscreen if its a night routine )
Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief contains the following key ingredients :
Tamanu Oil : An oil that research shows has remarkable skin-regenerative properties and was traditionally used to heal wounds and cure various skin problems and ailments. It is an oil that has eliminated most of Liah Yoo's hyperpigmentation (sunspots, acne scars, other discoloration) far more effectively than any retinol or vitamin C ingredient. ( Read more here )
Safflower Oil and Rosehip Seed Oil : Two incredible plant-based oils that have amazing skin-nourishing benefits and are higher in linoleic acid than oleic acid. Countless studies demonstrate that oils rich in linoleic acid help restore damaged skin-barriers. The infusion of these two oils results in a high linoleic acid concentration that creates a light consistency, which melts right into your skin without the greasiness. ( Read more here )
NMF + Ceramides, Cholesterol, Squalane : A cocktail of ingredients that is meant to mimic a healthy skin barrier. These elements are naturally found in your skin when it is not compromised and in a restful state of zen. When life gets too stressful and your skin is put on edge, these super ingredients escape from your skin and leave it vulnerable. Replenish your skin barrier with this restorative combination. ( Read more here and here )
Niacinamide : Also known as Vitamin B3, this ingredient is the soccer mom of the skincare world who can do it all and more. Highly effective for barrier reparation, anti-aging, skin-brightening, and even acne prevention, niacinamaide is the versatile queen your skin will adore. What’s more, it’s also one of the most gentle active ingredients that delivers great skin benefits without any skin irritation, making it accessible for all skin types to give a chance. Conclusion
To conclude, I think Krave Beauty Great Barrier Relief would be a great addition to those battling with acne and those with dry ( not dehydrated ) skin.
If you have dehydrated or oily skin, you can consider mixing the GBR to the Oat So Simple Water Cream with your intended ratio. Of course, you can also use your own moisturiser. The key is to play around till you reach your desired effect.
My current perfect combination is 1:3 or 1:4 depending on my skin condition that day. The oily sheen would be very much reduced for my combination with surface dehydration type. I am really happy to have found a way that worked for my skin.
Do note that my product is in 45ml size while those featured in the website is in 40ml size. Not exactly sure if the new batch would be in 45ml size though.
Krave Beauty Oat So Simple Water Cream is a no frills moisturizer that’s Oh- so simple. Created with less than 10 ingredients, it blends into everyone and anyone’s skincare routine without a worry. Feed your skin this skin-calming, water-bursting moisturizer when it’s craving some good old-fashioned hydration.
Whoever comes up with all these pun-intended names for these products is such a genius, making a play with the ingredients involved.
The latest addition to Krave Beauty is this Oat So Simple Water Cream and unlike the rest of the products, the descriptions on both the box packaging and the jar are all printed in English. Yeah!
Check out the video to understand why Liah Yoo came up with this Water Cream.
How To Use :
- Use it as is
- Layer it multiple times, if necessary
- Mix it with your facial oil
- Mix it with your Great Barrier Relief
- Mix it with your retinol, AHA, vitamin C powders!

I have a soft spot for water based moisturisers as my skin absorbs it like a sponge so I was really looking forward to trying out Oat So Simple Water Cream. Indeed the product did not disappoint.
Krave Beauty Oat So Simple Water Cream comes in a simple jar which, according to Liah Yoo, is made of high quality PET plastic and is recyclable. It is also the main reason why she chose not to use other types of packaging. A cute brown spatula is provided to scoop up the contents for usage.
A burst of cooling sensation during application is a welcomed treat in our humid weather. The lightweight white gel-cream texture is emollient without feeling heavy or sticky. I love how it sinks into my skin without any greasy after-feel yet feel nourished and hydrated at the same time. There is a scent which comes from the ingredients but is not overpowering.
The Water Cream dries down to a slightly smoother texture with a hint of a shine but I am not too bothered by it. There is a subtle tackiness which goes away after a short while.
I started off with using this as the final step after applying Great Barrier Relief ( GBR ) but I can't get past the oily sheen caused by GBR and has since mixed a ratio of 1 :3 of GBR to Oat So Simple Water Cream which worked wonderfully for my skin type. No more oily sheen and my skin is soft, smooth and hydrated.
Krave Beauty Oat So Simple Water Cream uses the following key ingredient :
Oats : While downsizing the formula, oats were the one thing we couldn’t let go of because oats spark joy in our skin! Oats (aka avena sativa) are one of the most well-researched, natural ingredients in skincare. It has tremendous skin-calming properties that invite your skin into a state of zen.
Our skin goes through a lot in a day—pollutants, toxins, UV rays, and a lot of internal and external stressors. So we thought everyone and anyone’s skin can enjoy the benefits of using oats.
