Packaging, Scent and Texture
Dear Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop is housed in a 35ml clear dropper bottle with clear gel-like contents. I was initially surprised with its oily texture and warm sensation during application as I didn't really expect it. It has a hint of natural scent which likely comes from the ingredients.
Note that the warm sensation is due to a natural phenomenon caused by pH difference between the skin and Vitamin C.
How To Use :
1) After cleansing, prep the skin with the toner.
2) Apply 3-4 drops of the vitamin drop and gently spread over the face.
3) Lightly pat to promote full absorption.
Performance and Ingredients
With a pH level of 3.81, Dear Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop is an effective, innovative and fragrance-free skin care serum featuring 5% stabilized pure Vitamin C ( Ascorbic Acid) to treat dead skin cells, dull skin tone and enlarged pores. Using overnight can bring brighter complexion and clearer skin on the following morning.
The serum has a warm sensation during application and I didn't like the oily texture when I first start using it as it takes a long while for it to be absorbed. Thereafter, I discovered some quick hacks for it to be absorbed quickly for soft, smooth and supple skin.
Method 1 : Warm the serum in palms before application and press lightly on face after application.
Method 2 : Massage serum on face several times after application.
Method 3 : Use facial roller on face after serum application.
I use 1 - 2 drops and started off with nightly use, followed by day and night use but unfortunately, I noticed my skin became more sensitive with red patches on the pigmentation spots on cheeks if I use it in the morning.
The serum stings on pigmentation spots at times, leaving a scaly patch on the right cheek or having subtle red splotchy cheeks, if I use it in my skincare routine after exercise. It also stings on dehydrated areas. This reminded me vaguely of make p:rem Poncirus Trifoliata C Dark Spot Serum which also cause my skin to be slightly red and sensitive.
Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop also does not pair easily with selected products, causing a zit if I use it after Naruko Jing Cheng 60 Actives Ultimate Moisturizer or Axis-y Heartleaf My Type Calming Cream, itches when I used it after Kanebo Freeplus Watery Cream or 23.5°N Rice Soothing Active+ Moisturizer.
Thankfully, it paired well with Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner and Celimax Dual Barrier Skin Wearable Cream for soft, smooth and supple skin.
To avoid irritation, please do not apply this product after exfoliators ( AHA, BHA products included ) have been used.
To avoid oxidation, store it in the refrigerator when you buy it, as I did, and there was no change in color.
The key ingredients are....
5% Ascorbic Acid : Well-known for anti-aging, collagen-stimulating and brightening effects, though it can often be irritating for sensitive skin types; this formula contains an effective yet gentle percentage of vitamin C, making it perfect for those with sensitive skin, and an ideal starter serum.
Centella Asiatica Extract : Contains wound healing properties and helps reduce inflammation.
Conclusion
To be honest, I was slightly disappointed with the performance of Dear Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop on my skin. While it did left my skin soft, smooth and supple, it wasn't spectacular and was difficult to work with - from zits to itch to redness, hence it won't be a repurchase.
Dear Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop is touted as a gentle Vitamin C serum for beginners so you can give it a try. What don't work for me may just work well for you.
It has been said to be an alternative to Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum.
My favourite brightening serums are 5erenity2 Renew Serum and Axis-y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum.
