I have a soft spot for Korean hanbang skincare where hanbang refers to traditional herbal ingredients so when 5erenity2 ( pronounced as Serenity ) reached out to me for a collaboration, I was more than happy to oblige. And I am certainly proud of the fact that they are a local Singapore brand!
5erenity2 where “5” stands for the 5 elements theory: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water and “Y2” represents Yin and Yang, is a Singapore skincare brand which uses pharmaceutical grade ingredients to create proprietary blends that work together synergistically to maximize the benefits for your skin. These herbs are time tested and then combined with modern science ingredients such as Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide. High-tech manufacturing techniques are used to boost the potency which maximize the efficacy of the formulations. Their products are made without parabens, synthetic fragrances, phthalates, sulfates and heavy metals.

I received the Renew Collection which includes Renew Cleanser, Renew Serum and Renew Sleeping Mask. They are formulated using principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine combined with modern science to awaken and restore skin's natural defenses. The Renew Collection is said to balance the Yin and Yang of the skin, renews and restores skin to its healthy and radiant state.

Packaging, Scent and Texture
When I first received the package, I was wowed by the effort that goes into each box - there was a name card with all the relevant social handles and contact points and an explanation sheet for the Renew Collection printed in both English and Chinese languages.
I loved how 5erenity2 makes the effort to let the customer knows about their products as TCM skincare products are not widely associated with Singapore local brands. In fact, I think 5erenity2 might be the first local brand to infuse TCM into their products and I can't wait to share how their products worked for me!
Upon receiving the box of skincare products, I can detect a whiff of the herbal scent even with all 3 products sealed and enclosed in the taped brown box so if you are someone who is iffy about herbal scents, you might want to take note of it. For me, I love the calming herbal scent so its not an issue. The scent seemed to be lighter than Renew Sleeping Mask and Renew Cleanser.
5erenity2 Renew Serum comes in a 30ml glass bottle with a dropper to dispense the contents. Light orange in colour, it has a soothing herbal scent which I absolutely adore.
The texture is lightweight and sinks into skin effortlessly with a slight sticky sensation. Not a major issue as I tend to follow up with a moisturizer.
How To Use :
1) Apply each morning and evening after cleansing before your moisturizer.
2) Press the pump once to take up the serum and press again to dispense serum into the palm of hand and smooth it evenly over face avoiding eye area.
3) Pat lightly till absorbed.
4) Apply moisturizer after.

Enhanced with powerful antioxidants like Niacinamide, Peptides, Hyaluronic Acid to reverse the effects of ageing, stimulate collagen regeneration and increase hydration in our skin.
Suitable for all skin types, especially for dull, lifeless, dehydrated skin, pigmented skin or skin that starts to show premature aging, 5erenity2 Renew Serum is 100% natural and plant derived and does not contain scent, parabens, sulfates and phthalates.
Before I even start using the product, I have already fallen in love with its quality ingredients - ingredients which you can pronounce and know what they are for. And I fell even deeper in love after using it. The texture was lightweight, runny and absorbed so easily into skin.
I started off with using it in the night as I was afraid of sun-sensitivity issues and gradually moving on to using it both day and night. With twice a day usage, I literally saw results after 1.5 weeks of consistent usage. My skin looked brighter, healthier and radiant. Please be reminded to wear sunscreen whenever you are using a Vitamin C serum in the day.
My observations were further confirmed after a visit to my regular facial salon where my beautician commented that my skin is much brighter and radiant and asked what have I been doing to my skin during the pandemic! I have never receive such a compliment ( its usually non-related with radiance ) from her since the 4 years I have been there, so indeed the product is working for me!
On optimal skin days, I did not notice any difference where hydration is concerned but the effects were more pronounced on days when I was battling with skin dehydration as this serum has helped to replenish hydration back to my skin, leaving it no longer taut and parched.
However, please do note that the PAO period is 3 months, so once the product is opened, you have to use it up within 3 months. Initially, I thought I would have a difficult time depleting it but I actually used it up in about 2 months' time with daily usage.
Ingredients
In terms of ingredients, they are absolutely superior! There is no water in the formulation. In fact, its been said that the advantage for water free products is that without water, microorganisms cannot grow and contaminate the product, so fewer preservatives are needed if any.
Looking at the list, the top 2 ingredients are Niacinamide and Ascorbic Acid which can be quite beneficial when combined together in a product.
Each of these 2 ingredients on its own can help to address dark spots, uneven skin tone, wrinkles, loss of firmness, and dullness. When used together, they become even more of a powerhouse! This duo will help give you an even better chance at achieving a radiant, smooth, even, younger-looking complexion.
Niacinamide : Boosts collagen production, strengthens skin, helps your skin retain moisture for longer and accelerates skin cell turnover, resulting in younger, healthier skin. Niacinamide or Vit B3 is a powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredient. It is most effective for skin when used topically, strengthening cellular bonds and tightens skins thru repairing the skin barrier. It has the ability to visibly improve the appearance of enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, fine lines and dullness.
Ascorbic Acid : Ascorbic Acid, also known as L-Ascorbic Acid has the most research of any form of vitamin C when it comes to benefits for skin. It is a potent antioxidant and skin-soothing agent that can improve the appearance of signs of aging.
Hyaluronic Acid : Attracts and seals water into the skin. A molecule that’s able to hold 1000 times its own weight in moisture, Hyaluronic Acid is your best friend for hydrating and plumping for a healthy glow.
A 2014 study published in The Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology showed promising evidence for the use of hyaluronic acid in anti-aging. Nano-hyaluronic acid was applied to 33 women's skin for eight weeks. At the end of the trial, the women had a 96% improvement in skin hydration and a 40% improvement in the depth of wrinkles.
Oligopeptide : Peptides prompt your cells to produce more collagen which helps to fight fine lines and wrinkles. Oligopeptides, which have few amino acids (between 2 and 20) are smaller peptides which are able to get deep into the cellular level when applied topically.
Studies have shown that some oligopeptides in skincare do indeed cause an increase in proteins like collagen and help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkling and help to improve volume and plumpness of the skin
Copper Peptide : Often referred to as the most effective skin regeneration product where studies have shown that copper peptide promotes collagen and elastin production, and also acts as an antioxidant. It rejuvenates skin cells by promoting collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production. It’s a powerful antioxidant, neutralises free radicals, prevents expression lines and wrinkles from developing prematurely. Skin’s elasticity and strength is regained, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles slowing down the aging process.
Panax Ginseng Root Extract : A natural skin balancer, Ginseng helps to boost the circulation of skin's smallest blood vessels, in turn ramping up the synthesis of collagen for firmer skin, inhibit melanin production, acts as a shield against environmental pollutants, balance oil production and brighten and revitalize complexion. Its natural anti-inflammatory properties can also quell redness and puffiness.
Retinol : Known as a derivative of Vitamin A, Retinol is proven to improve mottled pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture, skin tone and color, and your skin’s hydration levels.

Conclusion
To conclude, I love 5erenity2 Renew Serum so much, for its lightweight texture, good efficacy and power ingredients. I am definitely happy with the results - brighter, healthier and radiant skin! Can't wait to see new products from the brand!
Do note that if you decide to get this product, please be consistent and use it up within the freshness period ( 3 months ) in order to reap maximum benefits. Its only being fair to your skin, your wallet and the product.
