Review : Original & Mineral Hydrate and Conquer Shampoo

A 50ml travel size of Original and Mineral's Hydrate and Conquer Shampoo is part of the Sephora Favourites Hair Saviours Kit which I purchased late last year. Made in Australia, Original and Mineral believes that a healthy head of hair begins when it’s free of stress—which means eliminating as many chemicals from your locks as possible. Beautifully packaged with minimalist elements, each product contains UV protection and natural ingredients that focus on nourishing and repairing your hair.

Free from Sulfate, Parabens, Triclosan, MIT, PPG andd Phthalates, Original and Mineral's Hydrate and Conquer Shampoo is housed in a opaque white bottle with a maroon coloured cap that has to be depressed in order to get the contents out. The gap is tiny so if not mixed well, the thick texture tends to get lodged at the bottom while the liquid portion would be used up first. One can still pull apart the bottle though, just to get down to the last drop.

The shampoo has a sweet caramel scent which I wasn't used to, initially but has slowly warmed up to it. It has light suds and provides a good cleansing experience. My hair is soft and manageable without much tangles.

I received The Body Shop Almond Milk and Honey Shower Cream from my sister as she cannot stand the cloying sweet fragrance, which I do agree to a certain extent. However, after awhile, I have sort of "adjusted" to the fragrance and now look forward to using it.

In 2017, The Body Shop released a body care range of Almond Milk and Honey products. Specially created for those with sensitive skin, the products are formulated with nourishing and restorative ingredients with soothing benefits for your skin. They are dermatologically tested, with no colourants, mineral oil or petrolatum and are specially formulated for those fighting sensitive skin battles. You can check out the full range here, which includes cleansing bar to body scrub.

Made in UK and cruelty-free, the Almond Milk and Honey Shower Cream is recommended for dry and sensitive skin. Housed in a beautiful and sturdy plastic white bottle with a flick-top cap, it fits the theme of almond milk and honey perfectly. The shower cream is soap-free and does not foam much. This also meant that it depleted at a higher rate for those used to foaming body washes.

For someone who is used to non-foaming body washes, The Body Shop Almond Milk and Honey Shower Cream works well and cleanses well. The thick and creamy wash feels luxurious and smells great.

It moisturises my skin without leaving any greasy film behind and I never feel that my skin is dry, even after sleeping in an air-conditioned room at night.

I am surprised that I actually like this shower cream as I have not use any of their products since 3 years ago as they do not work particularly well for me. I am happy to say that I am starting to have a renewed faith in their products and may just check them out soon.

Note that they only constant product that I purchased from The Body Shop is their organic round cotton pads which are of good quality. I use it for all my make-up removal needs.

Helps reduce irritation and redness while deeply hydrating the skin. Naturally driven Arbutin helps brighten dark spots and overall skin tone to reveal skin’s innate healthy glow.

I received 2 tiny vial samples with my purchases in Seoul late last year. Each vial lasted me for about 3 times of usages which I use it together with the finish cream. Lightweight and watery, it applies effortlessly into skin with a slight oily finishing. With most products, it takes a longer time for one to see improvement, if any, so at this point, I can't attest to its efficacy yet.

Review : Andalou Naturals Instant Brightening Face Mask ( Pumpkin & Honey )

I was looking for a brightening facial mask and chanced upon Andalou Naturals Instant Brightening Face Mask ( Pumpkin and Honey ) on Iherb with pretty good reviews. I promptly purchased a set of 6 single use pods that come in a box.

Andalou Naturals offers an extensive line of products, themed around what they call "Fruit Stem Cell Science," that includes extracts from apple, grape, and argan.

Made in USA, with a minimum of 70% Certified Organic Ingredients and is Certified GMO Free, Certified Cruelty Free and Certified Gluten Free, Andalou Naturals is the first Non-GMO Project Verified beauty brand that comes from the founders, Stacey Kelly Egide and Mark Egide. Back in 1999, they created Avalon Organics, the first certified organic personal care line and successfully lobbied California to legislate organic standards for personal care products. Through the years their iconic brands including Avalon Organics, Alba Botanica, Alba Hawaiian, Sonoma Soap Company, Un-Petroleum Lip Care and The San Francisco Soap Company have become household names for natural product enthusiasts.

Packaging, Texture and Scent 

Bright and chirpy in orange and white coloured packaging, Andalou Naturals Instant Brightening Face Mask is packed in single use pods, where I felt that each pod is too much for one single use hence I use it for about 4 times.

The brightening face mask is orange in colour and has a mushy texture with a spiced pumpkin scent.

Performance

I was initially surprised after applying Andalou Naturals Instant Brightening Face Mask for the first time on my face because I did not expect a a hot, minty and stinging sensation, immediately after application. I was pretty worried about my sensitive skin which tends to turn red easily under the sun.

Although the hot, minty and stinging sensation lessened slightly after 3 minutes, I didn't feel comfortable to continue with the masking session for another 15 minutes so I rinsed it off after a mere 5 minutes on skin. Skin was warm and turned slightly red after rinsing off. The redness is more apparent on the broken capillaries on both sides of my nose. I was pretty upset, of course but I persisted, thinking that it could be a one-off incident.

On the second masking session, I avoid using the mask on the broken capillaries area and layered it on skin for 15 minutes ( the recommended time is 10 - 20 minutes as stated on the single pod packaging ). The hot, minty and stinging sensation was still apparent but there was no redness. I was happy.

For subsequent usages, the experience has been largely the same. If the layer is applied thinly, it would dry up pretty quickly, within 10 minutes on most days. So long I avoid using it on the broken capillaries, there would not be much redness on my skin.

After every session, my skin would always be very soft and smooth, clear, fresh faced and brighter-looking. I love the effect but not how my skin felt during the session. If you have very sensitive skin, Andalou Naturals Instant Brightening Face Mask ( Pumpkin and Honey ) may not be suitable for you.

Ingredients 

In terms of ingredients, Andalou Naturals Instant Brightening Face Mask contains Glycolic Acid which is a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) naturally found in sugar cane. As the AHA with the smallest molecule and the greatest penetration, Glycolic Acid deeply exfoliates to remove the outermost layer of dead cells from the complexion, revealing brighter, fresher skin. Products that contain Glycolic Acid are used often to treat scarring, skin discoloration and signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles.

It also contains a nice array of antioxidants, skin-repairing ingredients and non-fragrant plant oils. The prominent ingredient, pumpkin puree, is indeed helpful for the skin due to its rich load of antioxidants and fatty acids. However, where it comes to stem cells science claims, according to skincare guru, Paula, they do not have any effect and do not work because stem cells must be alive to function as stem cells. Once these delicate cells are added to skin-care products, they are long dead and, therefore, useless.

Conclusion

To conclude, Andalou Naturals Instant Brightening Face Mask ( Pumpkin & Honey ) is a great mask to help exfoliate dull, dry surface cells for a smoother texture and brightening skin tone, however, because of its stinging effects, it may not be suitable for those with very sensitive and delicate skin.

It is an effective make-up remover cum cleanser where you don't have to double-cleanse as it effectively removes all my make-up ( BB Cream, Loose Powder and Blusher ) without the need for another cleanser ( I tested it with my cotton pad! ). I also like it as a cleanser alone, as there is no greasiness and tightness. A gentle cleanser which I like it very much and may consider getting the full retail size.

Troiareuke Aesthetic BB Cream A+ Formula
Troiareuke Aesthetic BB Cream A Formula is an ultra high definition coverage formulation cream that feels weightless on the skin and conceals imperfections.

A sachet lasted me for about 5 times of usages. Meant for acne and sensitive skin, the BB cream also helps to heal the zit on my nose after 3 days of application. The coverage is medium to high and may not suit those looking for very light coverage. Like most BB creams, it also helps to smoothen and even up the skin tone.

I purchased The SAEM Eco Earth Power No Sebum Sun Cream SPF50+ PA+++ from Seoul late last year and used it up in about 3 ~ 4 months. The chirpy yellow 50g tube which easily dispense the white creamy contents has a subtle floral scent that may be a hit with most ladies.

As the name implies, it is a no-sebum sun cream and really, it is non-greasy and non-sticky, except that there is a light white cast which may make me look fairer immediately after application but disappear after applying my Naruko Tea Tree Anti-Acne Sunscreen ( I use it as a BB Cream as its tinted ) and RMS Beauty 'Un'powder. Indeed it is impressive that, at SPF50+, it is not oily or shiny like so many sunscreens in the market.

I received 5ml sample sizes of Chanel Blue Serum and Whitening Moisturizing Cream after my friend has purchased some Chanel make-up from the counter at Takashimaya. I paired both products for a week usage and really like the cream much more than the serum.

[ Quick Review ] Wou Wou Last Drop Shower Gel, Cleansing Water, Hair Essential Oil, Pure Ginger Hair Shampoo and Nutrition Hair Mask

Wou Wou Last Drop Shower Gel

I received a 10ml Wou Wou Last Drop Shower Gel sample sachet from a good friend who has become a Wou Wou distributor. Said to be nourishing and has whitening and firming effects, it also claims to solve eczema and rashes problems. From what I understood online, claims from Wou Wou products always sound too exaggerating without full ingredient list breakdown so I would just take it with a pinch of salt.

The 10ml sample sachet lasted me for 4 usages. It has a strong floral scent, foams slightly and cleanses well. The key ingredients stated are sweet almond oil, olive oil, jojoba oil and hydrolyzed elastin. The full ingredient list was not disclosed.

Wou Wou Cleansing Water

I received a small clear cylinder container of Wou Wou Cleansing Water with no size indicated but it lasted me for about a week. Unfortunately, it has a a whiff of alcohol scent which was a no-no for me. As a cleansing water, it cleanses as well as other cleansing waters on simple face and eye make-up, however, I can't attest to heavy make-up as I don't apply them regularly.

It brightens up my skin after every cleanse and I have not experience any drying after-feel, despite the strong alcohol scent.

It is said to contain the following ingredients :
- Licorice: Whitening, Brightening and moisturizing
- Artemisia: Anti-inflammation, Anti-Bacterial, sterilize and reduce acne growth
- Sephora: Brightening and moisturizing effect
- Gentian: Anti-bacterial and reduce yellowish skin tone
- Snake Bed: Reduce and eliminate rashes, prevent eczema from developing

However, since there was no full ingredient list stated, I am unable to tell the concentration level for each of the ingredient listed above. They could be the last few ingredients in the list and hence may not be helpful for the skin since the concentration would be too low to make a difference. I do hope the full retail size has the full ingredient list.

Wou Wou Essential Hair Oil 

Wou Wou Essential Hair Oil is said to rapidly repairs dry and damaged hair and provides silky and soft touch. Strengthens and prevents split ends of the hair externally, hydrates and moisturizes. Acts as a sun protector to protect hair from UV rays.

Main Ingredients :
Rose Oil from Europe : maintains moisture in hair and prevents dehydration
Olive Oil : brings moisture back to hair, leaving it healthy looking and shiny
Juniperus Communis Oil - helps in promoting hair growth and improves texture of hair

I received a tiny bottle of  Wou Wou Essential Hair Oil from my friend to try it out. The fragrance is strong initially but dissipated after awhile with some saying that it smells like Chanel Coco Parfum so if you are a fan of that fragrance, you can consider trying out the hair oil. It makes my hair slightly smoother and shinier.

Wowo Pure Ginger Hair Shampoo

Stimulates hair follicles to promote healthy black hair growth. Relaxes and relief headaches. Detox scalp. Anti dandruff. Oil control to stop bacteria growth. Improves hair scalp blood circulation to promote hair growth.

The ginger hair shampoo is the star product from Wou Wou, with many claiming hair growth and reducing dandruff. However, a friend of mine has claimed she has more hair fall from using the shampoo. 

I received a sachet from my friend and has used it thrice. The fragrance was not bad and the gel texture lathered well but it made my hair dry and tangled which I didn't like. Using the Nutrition Hair Mask only improved it very slightly.

Wou Wou Water Secret Nutrition Hair Mask

Strengthens and reinforces to help prevent breakage in fragile strands. Provides maximum replenishment and strengthens. Provide intense, deep moisturization. Deliver long lasting conditioning, nourishment and control.

I received a sample sachet from my friend and I used it directly after the shampoo. The Wou Wou Water Secret Nutrition Hair Mask has a strong fragrance which smells good. It made my hair slightly softer but nothing spectacular which I can't find in other hair masks.

To conclude, these are just my initial impressions from the sachets I received from a friend. While I don't get the full ingredient list from these sachets, I do hope that the full sized products do indicate the ingredients that go into them.

Review : Yuchoo By Me Steam Hair Mask

A year ago, there have been an influx of steam hair masks coming from Korea, touted as a convenient salon treatment at the comfort of your own home. I was intrigued and promptly purchased 5 packs from Waseyo.

Hailing from Korea, Yuchoo By Me Steam Hair Mask is paraben-free, benzophenone-free, talc-free with no artificial pigment and T.E.A. It comes with an essence foil cap ( has an annoying crinkly noisy plastic sound ) that heat up once fastened onto the head. Initially, I had some problems trying to adjust the foil cap as it has an odd shape that is difficult to wear and keep in place, but after some tries, I have sort of "master" it.

The essence foil cap is said to retain both the heat and moisture of freshly washed hair to lock in the ingredients, so as to provide nutrients, elasticity, hydration and soften damaged hair. The heating effect of Vanillyl Butyl Ether opens up the damaged cuticle layer so that nutritional ingredients like argan oil, coconut oil, acorus gramineus get absorbed deep into the hair.

Made in Korea, COSRX is famed for their affordable and effective products. COSRX Centella Water Alcohol-Free Toner is my very first product from the brand and I have to admit that my original intention was to get Galactomyces Alcohol-Free Toner but I grabbed the wrong product by mistake in Aland, Seoul.

COSRX Centella Water Alcohol-Free Toner comes in a 150ml bottle with a spray nozzle that dispenses just the right amount of toner onto my skin, without feeling like I am drenched. I love the convenience of a toner spray that soothes and calms the skin with current hot favourite ingredient Centella Asiatica Leaf Water.

This toner is highly concentrated with 10% Centella Asiatica and 82% Jeju Mineral Water as well as skin friendly plants extracts and calming botanical ingredients to provide relief for irritated and sensitive stressed-out skin while replenishing lost moisture. It is also suitable for sensitive skin.

I did not detect any fragrance in the product which is great and I also like the fact that it consists of only 9 ingredients. I use COSRX Centella Water Alcohol-Free Toner day and night, just before my serum and moisturiser application and it always feel very soothing and calming on skin.

As noted by skincare guru, Paula Begoun, Centella Asiatica contains active compounds, including madecassoside, which serves as an antioxidant. With potent antioxidant properties and rich source of amino acids, it is a good hydrating ingredient to soothe upset or compromised skin. It also helps to mitigate some of the visible effects of sun damage, plus there’s evidence that it can help revitalize skin’s protective barrier.

According to research study here, Centella Asiatica (Gotu kola) is effective in improving treatment of small wounds, hypertrophic wounds as well as burns, psoriasis and scleroderma. The mechanism of action involves promoting fibroblast proliferation and increasing the synthesis of collagen and intracellular fibronectin content and also improvement of the tensile strength of newly formed skin as well as inhibiting the inflammatory phase of hypertrophic scars and keloids. Research results indicate that it can be used in the treatment of photoaging skin, cellulite and striae.

In view of all these, I believe COSRX Centella Water Alcohol-Free Toner would be good for those
- who has a constant battle with redness on their skin
- who has sensitive skin which turns red easily
- who is looking to fight inflammation and scarring caused by acne

Aveda Rosemary Mint Purifying Shampoo provides lots of lathering suds with its gel-like contents and has a minty tingly sensation on the scalp and hair. However, it left my hair slightly dry and slight kinks.

Aveda Rosemary Mint Weightless Conditioner is creamy in texture and coats my hair strands well, solving the kinks caused by the shampoo. My hair is softer, smoother and less tangled.

However, even though both products has a Rosemary Mint scent, I love the one from the shampoo which is strong and relaxing, as compared to the scent from the conditioner. It is invigorating, uplifting and makes my hair smells so good!

[ Review ] Tahpre Everyday Mask

I chanced upon Waseyo when I was looking for facial masks and Taphre caught my eye. Taphre is famed for its Dream Cream which is said to work similarly like Botox. I had the chance to experience the product due to a colleague's recommendation but it isn't effective on my undereye area then.

Made in Korea, Tahpre strives to ensure all their ingredients; from the main active components down to the fragrances are all native to our environment, and most importantly effective and safe to use for all skin types. It is 5 free - free from parabens, artificial perfumes and dyes, mineral oil and artificial preservatives.

Like turning back time, Tahpre Everyday Mask helps replenish, protect and calm your skin against dehydration for a soft, healthy, luminous complexion and this can make you feel a few years younger as if you just got out of the time machine.

Packaging, Scent and Texture
I purchased a box of Tahpre Everyday Mask which comes with 4 individually packed sheets. The illustration has a vintage feel which is in tune with its range of Taphre products.

Made from cellulose fibre material, said to be more effective than cotton, the texture of Everyday Mask is soft, silky and adheres well to skin.

Performance
Specially formulated for everyday use, Tahpre Everyday Mask contains Aronia Extract Essence in place of water which is rich in Antioxidants, Anthocyanin, Vitamin B and Vitamin C. I like the fact that there is no water but 100% essence base to help ensure a 5 in 1 treatment of your skin with potent moisturising, whitening, relaxing, elasticity and nutrient replenishing effects.

However, sad to say, the masking session isn't a 100% positive experience. According to the product description, it is normal to experience a tingly sensation and one have to wait for the mask to work its magic on skin but for some strange reason, the area above my upper lips area felt tight during masking and continues to be so, even after removing the mask and followed up with my usual skincare routine. It only slowly eases off after more than an hour.

For the following 3 mask sheets in the box, I have similar experiences so I didn't really enjoy my masking session. That said, my skin was slightly brighter and moderately hydrated, although I was affected by the unpleasant "tightening" sensation, to be able to conclude the overall hydration capability.

Ingredients
In terms of ingredients, Tahpre Everyday Mask contains a high concentration of Hyaluronic Acid (5%) for hydrating and recovery and Snail Extract (3%) of whitening and recovery which is rather impressive. There is no water formulation and is 100% Aronia Extract based. In total, the list only contains 11 ingredients.

Conclusion
To conclude, Tahpre Everyday Mask is a great mask for brightening and hydrating purposes, using key ingredients with high concentration. However, the product is not suitable for my skin type.

Since I believe that a masking session should be an enjoyable process, this mask box would not be a re-purchase for me. Nonetheless, everyone's experience is different so you may not have the same experience as me.

Review : The SAEM Gold Snail Eye Gel Patch Set

Product Description
Hydrogel eye patch formulated with snail secretion filtratem, gold and 5 kinds of collagen peptides, provides rich moisture and nourishment to the dry and dull eye areas.

Made in Korea, The SAEM Gold Snail Eye Gel Patch Set comes in a round container with 30 pairs ( 60 pieces ) of crescent-shaped hydrogel eye patches stacked upon each other. There is a small plastic spoon provided to pick up the eye mask for use.

Made up of 10000ppm snail extracts, 5 types of collagen peptides and 24K Gold, they are said to hydrate and firm the undereye area. Visually beautiful with tiny shimmering gold specks, the fragrance is strong if the patches are very wet and tend to slip down ever so slightly on the undereye area with the runny liquid dripping down slightly.

Most of the patches are just moist as the essence in the container did not cover all the 30 pairs. Cooling and refreshing, the material becomes thinner and flatter after a 30 minute eye masking session. Unfortunately, I don't see any difference to my undereye area except for a tiny bump on the right side after several usages which goes away after a few weeks.
