A year ago, there have been an influx of steam hair masks coming from Korea, touted as a convenient salon treatment at the comfort of your own home. I was intrigued and promptly purchased 5 packs from Waseyo.
Hailing from Korea, Yuchoo By Me Steam Hair Mask is paraben-free, benzophenone-free, talc-free with no artificial pigment and T.E.A. It comes with an essence foil cap ( has an annoying crinkly noisy plastic sound ) that heat up once fastened onto the head. Initially, I had some problems trying to adjust the foil cap as it has an odd shape that is difficult to wear and keep in place, but after some tries, I have sort of "master" it.
The essence foil cap is said to retain both the heat and moisture of freshly washed hair to lock in the ingredients, so as to provide nutrients, elasticity, hydration and soften damaged hair. The heating effect of Vanillyl Butyl Ether opens up the damaged cuticle layer so that nutritional ingredients like argan oil, coconut oil, acorus gramineus get absorbed deep into the hair.
Recommended for dry, damaged, coloured, bleached and chemically-treated hair, the heat from the Steam Hair Mask is pretty acceptable and is not as hot as I thought, which came as a relief. I was almost afraid that my hair may end up being "fried". Instead, they are great portable hair treatment packs ( think of it like a deep nourishing conditioner ), suitable for use after a hair colouring or hair perming session, making my hair so soft and smooth. However, do note that it is recommended not to use it within the first 48 hours after a hair job so I tend to use it on the 4th or 5th day.
How To Use :
1. After shampooing, gently towel dry your hair. Dripping of hair will cause the essence to be diluted.
2. Cover entire hair with essence coated foil cap. Use the adhesive to adjust to fit head size. Stick the label in front to secure.
3. Massage your scalp with both hands so that the nutrients will be absorbed well.
4. After 15 minutes, remove the cap and rinse hair with lukewarm water.
5. Dry hair

Do note that even though the Steam Hair Mask is supposed to be used on freshly-washed towel-dried hair, I prefer to use it as a pre-conditioning wash which seems to work better.
As a post-conditioning wash :
Hair is slightly softer and smoother with lesser kinks. Slightly neater and is more manageable.
As a pre-conditioning wash :
Hair is super silky smooth with no kinks. Neat and so much more manageable.
I also save time by cutting down the need to wash my hair twice. Adding on to it, is that, it seems to work better than as a post-conditioning hair wash.
I wash my hair daily but I use the Steam Hair Mask once a week after a hair colouring job for 2 weeks and then repeat the process 3 months later. If you have seriously damaged hair, then you may want to consider doing Steam Hair Mask twice a week to get a better result.
