The Blithe approach to modern beauty boils down to two things: clear skin, clean ingredients. The first line of anti-polluaging skincare for modern urban women, this South Korean brand develops formulas to address and prevent visible signs of ageing caused by pollution using pure ingredients from uncontaminated regions and sensorial new textures. Their products are free from parabens, artificial preservatives, fragrances, synthetic dyes, phenoxyethanol, benzophenone, sulphate and talc.
Blithe Blue Zone Marine Intensive Mask Sea Cucumber is one of the sheet masks from Sephora Favourites Mask Wonderland which I purchased late last year. This is my first product from Blithe.
What are Sea Cucumbers? Sea cucumbers are echinoderms ( like starfish and sea urchins ) from the class Holothuroidea. They are marine animals with a leathery skin and an elongated body containing a single, branched gonad. All sea cucumbers are ocean dwellers, though some inhabit the shallows and others live in the deep ocean. They live on or near the ocean floor—sometimes partially buried beneath it. One of the most highly sought after seafood products in the market, the dried body of the sea cucumber is prized for their medicinal properties and are often touted as an aphrodisiac.
Research has shown that sea cucumbers may hold the key to banishing wrinkles. As we get older, changes in levels of collagen cause the wrinkles in our skin. However, sea urchins and sea cucumbers are able to change the elasticity of collagen within their bodies, according to scientists at Queen Mary, University of London. The researchers identified the genes for the peptides, or messenger molecules, which controlled the collagen, with possible implications for human beauty.
"We need to do more research to see if these peptides could have a similar affect in mammals. If so, this research could lead to new skin care products down the line."
Blithe Blue Zone Marine Intensive Mask Sea Cucumber relies on sea cucumber extracts, also called ginseng of the sea, that works to deeply moisturize the skin. It is soaked in sea cucumber extract from Jeju Island, a preserved island which is part of the Unesco heritage.
The scent smells good and is relaxing after a long day at work. The woven cotton material is thin and the cutting is good, which makes the adherence a good fit for my cherubic face shape.
The addition of marine collagen, hyaluronic acid, allantoin and lavender are said to soothe, brighten and unify the complexion which really did. I can see that my skin is smooth, supple and slightly brighter after a 20 minute treatment session.
In terms of ingredients, I like that its short and that the key ingredients can be found mostly in the top part which meant that the concentration is higher.
This mask is recommended for those who
- are battling with skin dehydration
- has a dull complexion
- has wrinkles and fine lines
