Review : Queen Helene Pomegranate & Raspberry Scrub

I received Queen Helene Pomegranate and Raspberry Scrub from Try and Review some time back. At 170g, it is a generous size with an affordable price, since you only need a small amount for the face.

Paraben-free and cruelty-free, Queen Helene Pomegranate and Raspberry Scrub has an overwhelming fragrance of Pomegranate and Raspberry scent which is too sweet for my likes. However, I do like the creamy texture with its tiny beads though I feel that the granules are alittle too abrasive for those with delicate skin. That said, it does leave my skin feeling super smooth and the blackheads on my nose were minimized. 

This product scored 3.7 from 29 users on Makeupalley. It retails for $9.90 in Watsons which is pretty reasonable, if you are looking for an affordable facial scrub. Review : Sephora Marine Algae Mask

This fibre sheet mask promotes a more youthful complexion. Each sheet hugs the contours of your face for comfortable adherence and ensures that the active ingredients are deeply absorbed by your skin

I received a complimentary sheet of Sephora Marine Algae Mask in a Sephora goodie bag from an earlier event this year.

Made in China, this anti-aging mask is said to protect the skin from inflammation and sun-caused aging. In terms of ingredients, they are filled with  many odd-sounding names which I never come across. Even Cosdna, the ingredient analysis website can't decipher them.

The material is thick and moist with essence. However, the cutting of the mask is really bad. Its huge and extends all the way to beyond the cheeks. If I really have to stretch and pull it tight, the mask would have gone beyond the ears, covering the hair. Do I really want to layer the sticky mask on my hair? I don't think anyone will do that.

Because of the large cutting size, there were excess flaps all over the face, leaving temporary mask imprints on my skin, after the masking session. For a cherubic face like mine, which is considered large, I wonder how it must have been, for those with smaller face shape.

The fragrance is also strong which may not go down well with those who has a sensitive nose. After a 20 minute treatment, my skin looked slightly fresher-looking but that is about it.

Myths and truths about your pores

For many of us, those little holes on our faces known as pores are little more than an unsightly nuisance. But aside from blemishing our complexions, they do serve a purpose: pores house a hair follicle and sebaceous gland and serve as a gateway for sebum, our skin’s natural oil. A pore is just a route or a channel for these things to reach the skin’s surface.

While the size of our pores is largely determined by genetics, some pores tend to be bigger than others because of the size of the hair follicle and oil gland. Poor hygiene and the resulting dirt, oil and dead skin cells that often build up can also make pores look bigger. Pores are generally clogged with sebum and dead skin cells, which naturally slough off from the side of the pore. If a pore becomes clogged, that will temporarily stretch the pore and make it more apparent.

I owned a 30ml sample size of the Erborian Yuza Double Lotion which was part of my purchase from Sephora earlier this year. It is said to exude a nourishing glow no matter how exhausted you are, due to the water-in-oil emulsion concoction that is enriched with antioxidants to nourish the lusterless complexion to escort hydration back to the skin.

Most people know how to take care of their skin while under the sun like slathering sunscreen, wearing hats and sunglasses but few people will knew that some common medication will intensify the effects of sunlight, raising the risk of burning and getting rashes.
