Key Ingredients :
Calendula Extract and Petals : a very rich source of polysaccharides, saponins and flavonoids, which are known for their skin soothing properties. Calendula has been highly regarded as a medicinal herb in both Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine for many centuries for its skin treatment properties. The Calendula Petals are slowly mixed in to infuse our formula, which gives it a golden color.
Aloe : Widely used for centuries in traditional and herbal medicine for its skin soothing benefits. It also known to possess hydrating properties and helps increase the water content in skin. Our Aloe is sourced from the leaf of the Aloe Vera plant growing in the Dominican Republic.
Kiehls came into my radar recently, with their Calendula and Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque which I was pretty impressed. The 14ml travel size was part of the Tangs Beauty Box and I was delighted that I get to try many different brands in 1 Beauty Box.
Kiehls originated as an Old-World Apothecary 165 years ago in New York's East Village, named as Brunswick Apotheke and was renamed it to Kiehl Pharmacy after apprentice John Kiehl purchased it. You can read more about its heritage and milestones here.
The brand is certainly growing from strength to strength and is always executing changes to move on with the times. There was a period where my brother is one of the Kiehls Boys who dish out samples to customers. And no, he did not give any samples to me. Haiz.

Kiehls Calendula and Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque is a very cheerful colour of yellow and provides a burst of refreshing cooling sensation once applied. It also smells pretty good.
I love how gentle and soothing it feels on my skin and also how fast it works - just 5 minutes! Great for those who is always hard-pressed for time. You can also bring it to the office, and mask it during lunchtime. That is how convenient it is - for you to get hydrated, soothed and healthy skin in minutes.

The gel contents may appear concentrated, thick and sticky but actually applies easily on skin. After 5 minutes, you can feel that its has been absorbed, leaving a sticky finishing behind. Wash off the remnants on skin and see how your skin has calmed down considerably.
In terms of hydration, I won't say its the best ( the best hydration mask, to me, would be one which can remove the flakiness on skin, with just one use ) but its good enough for moderately dehydrated skin. On severely dehydrated skin, like mine, at times, I actually use it morning and night for 2 consecutive days to restore the hydration back and soothe all flakiness.
In terms of ingredients, do note that it contains citrus lemon peel oil which may be sensitive for some individuals. Aloe is great for cooling down the skin, which probably contributed to the cooling sensation from the usage of this product. The 6th ingredient is Castor Oil, known for anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and moisturizing properties.
