Solyph Face The Wild Sun Shield Cream SPF50 PA++

Product Description
The SOLYPH Face The Wild Sun Cream is a physical sunscreen that helps protect against harmful UV rays. With SPF 50 PA++, this sun cream has benefits to protect against blue lights and micropollutants as well. Infused with Chamomile, Pine Leaf extract and Aqua Active H, its hydrating formula soothes and primes the skin. Perfect even to be worn under makeup, it’s also enriched with Probiotics and Green tea to help improve skin health. Aiming to provide skincare for those that lead an active lifestyle, their products are suitable for all skin types. This product is vegan and also free from harmful ingredients and synthetics such as alcohol, sulphate, phthalate, and artificial dyes.

I have previously reviewed Solyph Keep Calm Meditate Sheet Mask which was a complimentary gift with my purchase of Face The Wild Sun Shield Cream. Being a fan of mineral sunscreens, I didn't hesitate to try this out but unfortunately, this isn't the one for my skin type and it also turned out not a mineral sunscreen after all.

Solyph Face The Wild Sun Shield Cream is a 35ml product in an unique hard orange plastic rounded tube with a slider at the back to unlock before depressing the tube for contents. It has a portable clear base stand for the sun cream to sit upright.

Solyph Face The Wild Texture

White creamy in texture, it doesn't have much fragrance but has a naturally occurring scent.

How To Use
1) Gently apply 1 to 3 pumps after your skincare routine and before makeup.
2) For prolonged protection, reapply every 2 to 3 hours.
3) Suitable as a primer and is easily reapplied over makeup.

Performance and Ingredients

Solyph Face The Wild protects against UV rays, blue lights and micropollutants. Creamy in texture, it has a thick white cast and requires much time in massaging and blending before it becomes minimal.

It looked very greasy on my combination skin type but can be toned down with RMS Beauty "Un" Powder or Derma E Sun Protection Mineral Powder. That said, Solyph has launched a second version recently which hopefully would be better.

Despite being touted as a physical/mineral sunscreen, Face The Wild does contain Octinoxate and Ethylhexyl Salicylate which are chemical UV filters so it was pretty misleading.

It has SPF 50 PA++ sun protection and consists of 4 UV filters

Helpful info:
UVA - Long wave ultraviolet A (UVA) rays penetrate deep into the dermis, the skin's thickest layer and causes premature skin aging, wrinkling and dark spots.
UVB - Short wave ultraviolet B (UVB) rays burn the superficial layers of the skin and is the main cause of sunburn and skin cancer.
PA - More + signs mean longer protection against UVA
SPF - Higher numbers mean longer protection against UVB

Conclusion

Solyph Face The Wild Sun Shield Cream Review

To conclude, Solyph Face The Wild Sun Shield Cream isn't the best fit for combination and oily types as it looked very greasy though it can be toned down with mattifying powder. The white cast looked terrible at first application but minimized upon some blending and massaging.

It is also rather expensive for a 35ml product, and there are much better alternatives out there, with more elegant textures.

Do note that this is a hybrid sunscreen and not a physical sunscreen as it contains chemical filters as well.

UPDATE (17 March 2024)

Brought it along for my Carribean Spectrum of the Seas cruise

After reading my product review on my Instagram, Solyph reached out and offered to send me their renewed formula. Judging from their Instagram posts, they seem to take feedback seriously and came up with improved versions every now and then.

However, they don't seem to explain much about the difference between each renewed version and the ingredient list seemed the same for the one I purchased and the gifted version.

I purchased mine in March 2022 and received their renewed gifted version in October 2023. I was informed that this new version has a more matte formulation.

Solyph Face The Wild Sun Shield Cream SPF50 PA++ has a lighter and smoother creamy consistency and applies matte upon application with a subtle cooling sensation. However, after 5 minutes, it left a slight sheen on the face although its was lesser than my original purchased tube. There was a heavy white cast which requires some massaging and blending before it tones down to a minimal.

Overall, it was an improved version for me, as compared to my purchased bottle.
