After having good experiences with Real Barrier Extreme Cream Mask and Real Barrier Aqua Soothing Ampoule Mask, Real Barrier Extreme Essence Toner was the first product to come to my mind when I was given a chance to choose some products from Justrend in return for an honest review.

Packaging, Scent and Texture
Real Barrier Extreme Essence Toner is housed in a 190ml plastic bottle with blue and white colours, giving it an overall clinical vibe. The flick top cap is hassle-free and dispenses the contents easily.
As the name implies, this is an essence toner so the texture is slightly thicker, almost like an essence type milk toner, rather than the usual runny toner contents. The consistency can be slightly sticky but absorbed into skin thereafter. It has a subtle unique scent which could be due to the ingredients used.
How To Use :
1) Apply toner as 1st step in your skincare program, morning and evening.
2) Press gently into the skin until the toner is fully absorbed.
TIP: You can soak some cotton pads in this toner and apply it on your skin as a quick face mask or put the pads on dry parts of the face including forehead, cheeks, around lips for 5 minutes for additional hydration.

Restoring the moisture balance of your skin after cleansing is a must if you want to avoid irritation, dryness and even acne breakouts.
Made in Korea, The Real Barrier Extreme Essence Toner is an essence-type milk toner that helps replenish your skin with moisture after cleansing. It is formulated using the patented MLE Skin Barrier Formula, which helps protect and strengthen the skin barrier. The MLE ® skin barrier formula aids in creating a protective layer on the surface of the skin and also controls the amount of moisture in the skin leaving it looking dewy and healthy.
This toner is enriched with skin-relaxing component Panthenol, that gives a soothing effect and help your skin maintain its balance. 5 kinds of Hyaluronic Acid ensure a deep hydration, providing your skin with moisture on all its layers.
However, do note that, this is an updated formula from the original version and the ingredients are slightly different.
The updated formula is fortified with triple Ceramide which is a combination of patented Omega Ceramide, a proprietary Ceramide and Ceramide 3, all known to strengthen the skin barrier and help create skin that is firm and hydrated. The levels of known allergens were reduced or removed enabling it to be the ideal product for not only dry, but sensitive skin.
Initially, I was not used to its thick and sticky consistency so I prefer to use cotton pads to swipe all over the face but with time, I have come to appreciate its capability to soothe the skin. On dehydrated and irritated skin days or on days when I need more hydration, I like to pour the essence toner into my palms and pat them into the skin as it hydrates well and feels comforting and nourishing.
That said, it didn't work too well for me as a DIY lotion mask as the texture was too thick for absorption and left my skin looking shiny and slightly greasy. However, its a different story when I use it on red, tight and scaly patches where the toner has proven to be effective in protecting and strengthening my skin barrier.
I took a chance with Real Barrier Extreme Essence Toner when I encountered red scaly patches after a facial at IDS Aesthetic and together with Iunik Tea Tree Relief Serum and Huxley Secret Of Sahara Cream, the red scaly patches subsided within 4 days which previously took 7 days without the Essence Toner in my routine.
In fact, I found the perfect way to speed up the recovery process
- instead of applying the toner once, as in the usual skincare routine, I apply 2 layers on the concerned areas.
- instead of twice a day skincare routine as usual, I apply the toner 3 times a day.
I am really happy to say that this Real Barrier Extreme Essence Toner is a must-have for those with weakened skin barrier and is a savior for red, tight, scaly patches and on dehydrated, dry and irritated skin days.

Real Barrier Extreme Essence Toner uses an Omega-Ceramide-16 technology, the latest patent skin science by Real Barrier, that helps tighten the skin barrier firmly with triple ceramides and activate filaggrin ( protein that is present in the outmost layer of our skin, that acts like a cement which holds our skin cells together) to strengthen our skin structure.
In terms of ingredients, it contains the following....
Sunflower Seed Oil : Nourishes skin with Vitamin E and antioxidants, helps improve acne and reduce inflammation and redness of skin.
3-Calming complex ( Panthenol, Madecassoside and Allantoin ) : The complex blend of the 3 ingredients effectively soothes and protects sensitive skin from environmental aggressions. Relax and calm sensitive skin.
Allantoin - Gentle enough for sensitive skin and is anti-inflammatory and hydrating. Also a powerful antioxidant and has wrinkle-smoothing and exfoliating properties.
Panthenol aka Provitamin B5 : Stabilizes the skin’s barrier function, reducing the amount of water lost through the skin, thus improving its texture and elasticity.
5 types of Hyaluronic Acid ( Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Glycosamino-glycans, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Sodium Hyaluronate & Hydrolyzed-Hyaluronic Acid : Hyaluronic acid complex with different size and properties increases the moisture content in skin and brings longer hydration. Conclusion
Real Barrier Extreme Essence Toner is more than just a toner. It is an essence-type toner for skin barrier protection. Light as a toner yet deep as a nourishing essence, this essence toner hydrates and nourishes the skin deeply at the same time which I can depend on, for dehydrated and irritated skin days.
The effects were not apparent initially but you would appreciate the product once your skin is sensitised, dry, dehydrated, tight, red and flaky as the toner contains a skin barrier function formula ( MLE® Real Barrier formula ) to strengthen weakened skin barrier.
With its 5 kinds of hyaluronic acid, panthenol, madecassoside and allantoin, this nourishing toner effectively moisturizes and improves skin’s barrier boasting long-lasting benefits so its perfect for dry and sensitive skin.
I like how it replenishes skin moisture while soothing, calming and restoring the pH level after cleansing, sealing in moisture and protecting against external aggressions and irritations. It is the perfect ally for damaged skin that needs special care.
It leaves the skin with an instant feeling of hydration and relief and is ideal for use during sensitive, irritated, reddened, tight or dehydrated skin days. It seals moisture and humidity into the skin in one go, leaving it comfortable and free from discomfort after cleansing.
