I'm From Licorice Clear Pad

I'm From Licorice Clear Pad was launched 3 years ago but is now discontinued. I took a long while to empty this as it doesn't quite fit into my skincare routine. I'm From Licorice Calming Cream, I'm From Licorice Soothing Ampoule and I'm From Licorice Clear Pad were provided to me for review purposes.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

I'm From Licorice Clear Pad Texture

There are 60 pads stacked neatly inside the tub. A pair of tweezers is included to hygienically pick up each pad which is a thoughtful touch that prevents contamination. Each pad is generously sized, large enough to cover fuller cheeks with ease. The dual-textured design means you use the embossed (textured) side first to gently slough off dead skin cells, then flip to the smooth side to refresh and prep skin.

One note: on days when my skin was already flaky, the textured side left a subtle sting on those compromised areas. That's a sign to skip, not push through.

How To Use
1) After cleansing, as the first step of your routine, take the embossed side of the pad and gently swipe over the face.
2) Pat lightly for better absorption.
3) To use as a mask and maximize the effects, take the pads over areas that need soothing and leave for 3 minutes.

Performance and Ingredients

I'm From Licorice Clear Pad Appearance

As I age, my skin has become more sensitive, dehydrated, and in constant need of nourishment. What I genuinely need from a toner pad is hydration. What I don't need is another exfoliating pad and that's exactly what this is.

When I used this pad for three consecutive days, things went south fast. My face became inflamed with red patches across my cheeks and philtrum, and my skin turned dry and flaky. This was a clear signal of over-exfoliation and a reminder that even "gentle" acids need to be used with caution and according to your individual skin's tolerance.

Used twice a week, this pad genuinely delivered results. It gave me noticeably smoother, more even-textured skin which makes sense given its star exfoliating ingredient, Lactobionic Acid. But that frequency is what worked for my skin type, and yours may differ. Always patch test and ease into use.

The I'm From Licorice Clear Pad has a well-considered ingredient list packed with actives that have real scientific backing. Let's break down the standouts:

Glycyrrhiza Uralensis (Licorice) Root Extract + Glycyrrhizic Acid

Licorice root is the hero ingredient of the entire I'm From Licorice line and for good reason. Glycyrrhiza extracts are widely used in cosmetic preparations for their skin-whitening, anti-sensitizing, and anti-inflammatory properties. The key compound, glabridin, blocks melanin overproduction, making it a powerful brightener that reduces dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Research also confirms that licorice extracts display excellent radical scavenging and antioxidant activity, along with tyrosinase and elastase inhibitory activity, which together indicate strong anti-aging potential.

Lactobionic Acid (Next-Generation AHA / PHA)

This is the exfoliating powerhouse of the pad and the main reason I had to be careful with frequency. Lactobionic Acid is classified as a Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA), making it gentler than traditional AHAs like glycolic acid. Lactobionic acid has been shown to provide textural and smoothing benefits to skin and to increase skin thickness, while also acting as an antioxidant chelating substance that suppresses matrix metalloproteinase enzymatic activity, helping protect against further sun damage.

Crucially for sensitive skin types: Lactobionic acid is able to bind large amounts of water and act as a potent antioxidant agent, while also maintaining epidermal barrier integrity, making it suitable for use on sensitive skin types including couperose skin. A clinical study further found that a 10% Lactobionic acid moisturizer reduced skin surface pH without irritation or skin barrier impairment.

Centella Asiatica Complex (Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid, Madecassoside)

The presence of four key Centella asiatica compounds in one product is notable. These phytocompounds are considered cosmetically beneficial for their role in anti-aging, skin hydration, collagen synthesis, UV protection, and healing scars. Research shows that madecassoside and asiaticoside promote wound healing by stimulating fibroblast and keratinocyte motility and increasing collagen production. or those with reactive or inflamed skin, Centella asiatica extract significantly reduces inflammation due to its immunomodulatory properties.

Overall, The I'm From Licorice Clear Pad is a well-formulated exfoliating toner pad with an impressive roster of science-backed ingredients. The combination of Licorice Root, Lactobionic Acid, Centella asiatica complex, and Ectoin creates a product that exfoliates while attempting to soothe and hydrate in the same step — a thoughtful formulation philosophy.

However, if your skin skews sensitive, mature, or chronically dehydrated like mine, this is not an everyday product. Use it sparingly (twice a week is my sweet spot), keep a rich moisturizer on standby, and treat it as a periodic resurfacing treatment rather than a daily prep step.
