I received the Dr. G Black Snail Cream through a StyleKorean beauty box collaboration. This is not a sponsored review, and all opinions are based on my personal experience.

Having previously tried the Dr. G Red Blemish Clear Soothing Cream, which left a strong impression on me, I was genuinely excited to test this K-beauty snail mucin moisturiser especially since snail creams can be quite hit or miss depending on texture and formulation.

For reference, I’ve enjoyed other popular snail creams like the JUMISO Snail Mucin 88 + Peptide Facial Cream and iUNIK Black Snail Restore Cream.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Dr. G Black Snail Cream Appearance

Dr. G Black Snail Cream (50ml) comes in premium, hygienic packaging:
  • Includes a spatula for clean application
  • Braille details on the jar (thoughtful accessibility design)
  • A space to mark your opening date

Texture: Thick, dense, and rich but only slightly stretchy (yay)
Finish: Slightly greasy with a subtle tackiness.
Scent: Contains added fragrance

If you’re searching for a rich anti-aging cream for dry or dehydrated skin, this leans more toward a nourishing occlusive cream rather than a lightweight gel moisturiser.

How To Use :
Apply a moderate amount evenly over the face and pat lightly for better absorption.

Performance and Ingredients

When I first tried this snail cream for my combination skin, I didn’t like it.
  • Felt heavy and greasy, especially during the day
  • Not ideal as a standalone moisturiser in humid climates

However, once I adjusted how I used it, it worked much better:

✔ Used as a night cream
✔ Paired with lightweight or slightly drying products
✔ Used sparingly
✔ Great for dry or flaky patches
✔ Gradually incorporated into my morning routine

Results:

  • Skin felt well-moisturised and nourished
  • Helped with dryness and skin barrier support
  • More moisturising than hydrating

Note: I did not notice significant brightening effects despite the pearl powder and niacinamide.

Dr. G Black Snail Cream Texture

This Korean snail cream is formulated with multiple well-studied skincare ingredients. Adding on Black Snail Mucin delivers deeper nourishment and rejuvenation than regular snail mucin.

Snail Secretion Filtrate (Snail Mucin) :
Known for skin repair, hydration, and anti-aging benefits
A 2013 study in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology found snail mucin improves fine lines, elasticity, and skin texture
Helps support wound healing and barrier repair

Propolis Extract :
Natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredient
Studies (e.g. Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2016) show propolis helps with acne reduction and skin healing

Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) :
Clinically proven to brighten skin tone and improve uneven pigmentation
A 2005 study in Dermatologic Surgery showed visible improvement in hyperpigmentation and skin barrier function

Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid) :
Provides deep hydration and plumping effects
Widely supported by dermatological research for improving skin moisture retention

Centella Asiatica Extract :
Known for soothing and repairing sensitive skin
Supports collagen production and reduces inflammation

Pearl Powder :
Traditionally used for brightening and radiance
Limited modern clinical evidence, but popular in K-beauty for glow enhancement

Conclusion

To conclude, Dr. G Black Snail Cream is a nourishing and reparative snail cream that works best when used strategically. Not love at first try but once I figured out how to incorporate it, it became a solid barrier-supporting moisturiser in my routine.

That said, it might be too heavy for oily or acne-prone skin types.
