Geek & Gorgeous has two A-Game serums - A-Game 10 and A-Game 5 where A-Game 10 is a 0.1% Retinal Serum and A-Game 5 is a 0.05% Retinal Serum.
I only started using retinol in 2020 and it wasn't a staple in my routine until late last year, however, I was game to try out A-Game 10 as I have used Allies of Skin Retinal & Peptides Repair Night Cream, 5erenity2 Renew Serum, Sisters By Pearry's First Care Essence and Somethinc 1% Pure Retinol + Squalane before.
Retinoids are a category of skincare products beloved for their skin-firming and acne-clearing abilities. You might know these products or ingredients by any number of names, including retinol, retinoid, tretinoin, retinaldehyde, retinoic acid, and Vitamin A. And while none of these words means exactly the same thing, they all share similar abilities when applied topically. Just embrace the category of retinoids, which is also more commonly referred to as “retinols.”
There is a plethora of data showing that consistent retinoid use minimizes fine lines, evens skin tone, smooths texture, and decreases acne.
When you apply any retinoid product to your skin, the vitamin A from which it is derived converts to its active form, retinoic acid. This tells your skin to increase cellular regeneration and collagen production and this action triggers the smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles, improved skin tone, texture, and clarity, while brightening the look of dark marks and age spots.
Retinoids increase the rapidity in which the outer layers of the skin turn over. This can be helpful for unclogging pores, removing dead skin cells, preventing acne, and also as an antiaging medication. With regular use, people are able to achieve a glow-like appearance to their skin and less crinkliness.
Packaging, Scent and Texture
Geek & Gorgeous A-Game 10 is housed in a 30ml white bottle with a minimalistic vibe, in line with their products. It has a pump dispenser which dispenses the yellow lightweight creamy serum with no noticeable scent.
All Geek & Gorgeous products are fragrance free, alcohol free and never tested on animals
How To Use :
1) Apply a pea sized amount to the face in the PM.
2) In your evening routine, apply liquid and gel-type products first (for example a toner, or our other serums such as HA 5 or B-Bomb), then A-Game. Follow with a moisturizer. Wear a sunscreen of SPF 30 or greater in the morning.
Tips :
- If you are using A-Game 10 for the first time, phase in application starting at 2-3 times per week for two weeks. If well-tolerated, move up to every other evening in two weeks and finally - if your skin tolerates it - every night. Do not use around the eye area.
- Do not use if pregnant. Topical use of retinoids during breastfeeding is considered low risk, however, please consult your physician first.
- Good to know: A-Game has a bright yellow color due to the retinal in it. Based on our experience, it dissipates on the skin and does not leave a yellow tint on surfaces.
- Shelf life: 18 months from production (unopened), 6 months PAO (period after opening)
Performance and Ingredients
With an avant-garde concoction of 0.1% Retinal, Geek & Gorgeous A-Game 10 magnifies your anti-aging routine while fast-tracking your lane to a younger-looking appearance. Detouring a step in the conversion route, the gentle yet mighty, high-strength Geek & Gorgeous A-Game 10 doubles up the wrinkle-erasing, radiance-boosting, ultra-firming and hyperpigmentation-diminishing processes, uncovering pillowy soft, flourished and ageless complexion quickly.
Retinal is the "big brother" molecule of the better known anti-aging superstar, retinol. While retinol needs two metabolic conversion steps to reach the active form, retinoic acid (aka tretinoin), retinal is the direct precursor only one conversion step away from the active form the skin cells understand. It is estimated that retinal can convert more than 10x faster to retinoic acid than retinol, making retinal an outstandingly effective member of the retinoid family (vitamin A family).
Once converted, retinal helps the skin cells to produce more collagen and other structural elements, making the skin more youthful, firm and elastic. It also speeds up the renewal process of the upper skin layers making it smoother and more even. A-Game is a smart-aging must-have, but it is also useful as an adjacent product for fading pigmentation, as well as helping acne-prone skin.
In terms of strength and knowledge, this 0.1% retinal serum is comparable to a high-strength retinol product (typically in the 0.5-1% range), but with less irritation potential and possibly quicker results.
It is recommended for anyone with stubborn aging concerns in need of a potent yet gentle anti-aging serum that accelerates the age-reversing journey.
A-Game came across as slightly drying if I use it daily ( sides of nose became rough ) so the sweet spot for me is to use it twice a week, paired with a a thicker moisturiser like Barr Centella Calming Barrier Cream, leaving my skin smooth, fresh and glowing the following morning.
As the cream is yellow in colour, my husband commented that my face looked sightly yellowish after application. It is a minor issue, as I use it at night, just before bedtime. It doesn't stain my pillow though, once the serum has been absorbed into the skin completely.
A note of caution, as retinoids can make the skin more sensitive to sun exposure, it is important to apply SPF every morning to help protect the skin from the sun and this SPF will also minimize any sensitivities felt by the freshly exfoliated skin and newly exposed skin cells.
The key ingredients are....
Retinal (0.1%) : An anti-aging superstar ingredient that is the direct precursor of retinoic acid (the active form that the skin cells understand) and shows an outstanding activity/tolerance ratio among topical retinoids.
Allantoin & Panthenol : A classic ingredient duo known for their skin soothing and skin protecting abilities.
Biosaccharide Gum-1 : A carbohydrate molecule that has nice skin soothing and moisturizing abilities, and makes A-Game even more gentle and silky.

Conclusion
To conclude, Geek & Gorgeous A-Game 10 Retinal Serum can be slightly drying so using it twice a week while pairing with a good moisturiser is key to smooth, fresh and glowing skin the following morning.
Paula Begoun, the skincare guru recommends the following tips :
- Never miss a day of applying a cream with a SPF of 30 or higher! Even the most effective, scientifically proven products against ageing skin will not work if you do not protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s rays.
- For best results, use retinol products with other skincare products that contain antioxidants, skin-repairing ingredients and various cell-communicating substances, such as those containing niacinamide.
