[ Review ] NVII Collagen Protein Mask

When I was staying over at my parents' place, I found NVII Collagen Protein Mask in the fridge, which is one of the many facial sheet masks that my parents purchased occasionally. I vaguely remembered seeing the facial mask sheet in Watsons and was contemplating on buying it then, but did not.

NVII®, is an in house brand of Betime Marketing that produce skincare and supplements for overall health beauty and wellness with the aim of achieving the 3Es; Effectiveness, Economy and Ease of usage. You can check out the range of products here.

While pulling out the NVII Collagen Protein Mask from its packaging, I can smell a distinct fragrance which is overpowering and something that I can do without. The mask material is soft and adheres well to skin.

However, the cutting of the sheet mask is poor, it is wide with excess material at the ears area while the nose flap is shorter than norm.

After a 20 minute masking session, my skin was soft, smooth and supple which lasted till the following morning.

In terms of ingredients, the mask uses Pentavitin, a patented ingredient, to ensure instant deep hydration and generates a moisture reservoir for a long lasting effect. Marine collagen extract moisturizes and strengthens collagen alliance in skin which gives skin a smooth and silky touch. Vitamin B3 soothes skin and reduces redness caused by eternal stress, resulting in a smooth and healthier skin.

In conclusion, I would not purchase the mask due to the inclusion of the heavy fragrance which has no beneficial effect on skin. However, if you do not mind the fragrance, you can buy a box to try out at home.

I have terrible undereye conditions - dark circles, eye bags and fine lines and nothing, absolutely nothing eradicates them. Mostly are hereditary and I can't do much except to minimize the issues and make my peepers look better.

I have a soft spot for eye masks and on my very first trip with my girlfriends to Taiwan, they were shocked to see me putting boxes and boxes of eye masks into my basket and I have been known as a skincare fanatic ever since. Oops, my secret is out of the bag.

I picked up SNP Bird's Nest Aqua Eye Patch from Korea during a trip late last year. Woven by swiftlets from their saliva, edible Bird’s Nest (or Bird’s Nest) is one of the most popular tonics in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

In terms of beauty, they are reputed to maintain youthfulness and enhance the complexion. Modern studies have shown that Bird’s Nest is rich in epidermal growth factor(EGF). This substance is responsible for skin and tissue repair.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Made in Korea, SNP Bird's Nest Aqua Eye Patch has a cohesive blue theme in its product - from packaging to the tub and right down to the eye patches. Each round plastic tub comes with a clear plastic spatula and 60 pieces ( 30 pairs ) of eye patches, all stacked upon each other neatly on 2 rows.

Each crescent moon shaped eye patch is light blue in colour, adorned with little shiny specks on it. It has a subtle fragrance which is not overpowering.

Made of a hydrogel material, the texture has a jelly-like glooey texture that adheres moderately well to skin. However, since the eye patches are stacked upon each other in the tub and the "essence" is found mainly at the bottom of the tub, a movement of the tub may render some of the patches to be wetter than others. As such, when the patches are alittle too wet and placed on the undereye area, they tend to slide easily when I tried to layer it on the undereye area.

And because of its thin jelly-like texture, the material crumbles easily, if my long fingernail happen to pierce through the patches so either cut your fingernails or be gentle with them.


Performance and Ingredients

Icy-cold and refreshing, SNP Bird's Nest Aqua Eye Patches remained that way even up to 1 hour, providing a cool respite in our humid weather and feels so comforting on my undereye area. They get thinner after some time of usage. You can also pop them into the fridge for an extra cooling effect.

In terms of performance, it has a subtle depuffing action and brightened up the undereye area slightly occasionally. I don't see a difference to the fine lines though.

You would also be happy to know that other than using the eye patches on the undereye area, you can also use it at the corners of the mouth, between the eyebrows and under the chin and neck hence it can be a pretty versatile product.

In most cases, ingredients are listed in descending order of concentration and the 7th ingredient on the list is Swiftlet Nest Extract ( 1000mg ) the key ingredient, which fortunately, is not at the bottom of the list, like what most brands tend to do.

The 8th ingredient on the list is Chondrus Crispus Powder which is known as Red Algae, a type of seaweed that’s a rich source of many nutrients for skin, including the pigment beta-carotene and potent antioxidants zeaxanthin, lutein, which help protect skin from the visible effects of blue light exposure. 

The natural polysaccharides, peptides, and amino acids in red algae also help skin to stay hydrated; meanwhile, the numerous antioxidants in this and other types of algae can help shield skin from damaging airborne pollutants. 

Chondrus crispus contains a compound known as carrageenan, which forms a flexible film on skin that offers further defense against environmental stressors. ( source ).  Do note that this ingredient is highly comedogenic so if you have acne, its best to be careful.

Unfortunately, alcohol is listed as the 10th ingredient so if your skin is sensitive to alcohol then you may want to take note of it.

Conclusion

In conclusion, SNP Bird's Nest Aqua Eye Patch has a budget-friendly price, a feel-good factor and is great for different usages. I really like how relaxing it is, almost like a mini eye spa session but unfortunately the effectiveness is not consistent so my search for the perfect eye mask still continues.

Review : Yves Rocher Low ShamPoo Delicate Cleansing Cream

Hailing from France, Yves Rocher carries an affordable range of skincare, haircare and bodycare products. They used to be pretty predominant in Singapore but exited the market and re-entered in recent years. You can check out the range of products which I have reviewed in the past in this link.

Sulfate-free, silicone-free, colorant-free and paraben-free, Yves Rocher Low ShamPoo Delicate Cleansing Cream comes in a 200ml plastic tube that contains the cleansing cream which is thick and does not lather at all. It is inspired by the no poo method which simply meant washing hair with a gentle alternative to shampoo, such as baking soda, apple cider vinegar or just water only, so that one can achieve clean hair without the damage or dependency on daily shampooing. In short, instead of allowing chemicals in shampoo to strip your hair, strip away the chemicals instead and stop using shampoo altogether. You can read more about the method here.

So for those who are lazy with the DIY method of using other alternatives yet like to try the No Poo Method then Yves Rocher Low ShamPoo Delicate Cleansing Cream would be a good starting product.

Honestly speaking, I was pretty turned-off when I first try the product. The "shampoo" or cleansing cream is thick like a hair conditioner ( but not slippery ) and imagine using that on the hair, how can you even get those contents all around the hair, lather and rinse it off? There was no foam at all so the massaging and lathering action were non-existent and its like putting on a glob of cream on the hair and it doesn't move. I tried adding more water and more cleansing cream but it does not make a difference. I felt that my hair is unclean and I dislike shampoo-ing my hair. I chunk the tube aside and move on to other products. That is how much I hated it.

Several months down the road, I tried using Yves Rocher Low ShamPoo Delicate Cleansing Cream again. I am not one who waste products so I don't leave half-used products all over my bathroom. Viola, the experience didn't turn out too badly. I am surprised that my hair can actually take the cleansing cream well, leaving it soft and clean.

I am not even sure how my hair can take it this time round, perhaps it really needs some time for adjustment purposes. Even though there is no foam, but I still try to use it the way I usually lather the shampoo on my hair, not even sure if the cleansing cream gets all around the hair, but apparently it does, because my hair was definitely softer than before. Strangely, I didn't even use more water or more cleansing cream but it works in cleansing my hair. I can't even explain how and why. HAHA!

I didn't use any conditioner because you don't even need one. Yves Rocher Low ShamPoo Delicate Cleansing Cream makes my hair soft and manageable. However, if you ask me if I would repurchase, I really don't think so because, I am not sure if my hair would dislike the experience like the first time.

I purchased Bee Naturals Lip Balm from Iherb some time back and it took me an awfully long time to use it up before I can review it. I believe it is only fair to review a product after I have used it for a considerable length of time and right down to its last bit.

Made in USA, Bee Naturals formulates and produces skin and body care products that have specific therapeutic purposes, and are made with the highest quality ingredients that promote healthy skin and body for overall well being. It is leaping bunny certified and is cruelty-free.

Bee Naturals Lip Balm comes in a typical cylinder tube that can be twisted up to be used on the lips. The illustration is simple and pretty with bee motifs printed on it.

I like that its formulated with a total of only 8 ingredients that are pure and healthy. While it gives off a beautiful sheen and glides well on the lips to nourish and moisturise the area, however, if the lips is too dry, it tends to leave some white flakes behind which can be icky and off-putting when the sole purpose of a lipbalm is to moisturise the lips.

So no, this lipbalm would not be a repurchase for me, unfortunately.

The lightweight textured contents may appear blue but applies without any colour and sinks into skin fast, without leaving any sticky residue. It glides onto the skin effortlessly and is gentle.

I like the minty and cooling sensation that is great for tired eyes. However, other than that, I don't feel that Tony Moly Panda's Dream So Cool Eye Stick does anything much. At 9ml, I used it up within 4 months with once/twice a day usage.

In terms of ingredients, do note that there is alcohol located as the 4th ingredient and the key ingredients are mainly found in the middle of the list.

Review : Lululun Face Mask ( Pink )

I received a resealable pack of 7 piece Lululun Face Mask ( Pink ) sheet masks from a good friend who just came back from her Japan trip. This is one of the bestselling sheet mask in Japan so I was really happy to be gifted with them.


Packaging, Scent and Texture

Lululun Face Mask ( Pink ) comes in 2 sizes - 7 sheets pack and 32 sheets pack and I received mine in the 7 piece pack, kept in a resealable packaging which is pretty convenient for travels. It is also more eco-friendly since there is no individual packaging involved.

Each sheet mask is folded and stacked upon each other. Just pull one out, unfold and layer on skin. Slightly moist with a subtle scent, Lululun Face Mask ( Pink ) has a small face cutting that does not stretch to the edges of my face while the lip cutout is small and cut closely around the lips.

The material is thin and soft which adheres well to skin.


Performance and Ingredients

After using all 7 sheets for 7 consecutive days, I can see that my skin is slightly smoother and softer with smaller pores and brighter skin.

In terms of ingredients, the key ingredients are

Sodium PCA : a naturally occuring humectant that functions as a hydrating agent and a skin-replenishing ingredient. Sodium PCA is the sodium salt of pyroglutamic acid (also known as PCA). PCA is a naturally occurring component of human skin and a part of the "natural moisturizing factors" (NMF) that maintain a healthy epidermis. Sodium PCA is very hygroscopic, attracting moisture from the air. You can read more about the ingredient in this research journal.

Dipotassium glycyrrhizate : an ingredient derived from licorice root extract that functions as a skin-conditioning agent with anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties with the ability to improve the appearance of dry or damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring suppleness. It has a soothing effect and also calms inflammation. Clinical studies have determined that dipotassium glycyrrhizate is an effective treatment for atopic dermatitis (eczema) because of its ability to reduce redness and irritation. ( source )

Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide : a carbohydrate molecule that is bio-selective and has water-binding abilities. It is a powerful probiotic known to help maintain and support the skin's natural microflora by encouraging the growth of beneficial bacteria. You can read more here.

In conclusion, Lululun Face Mask ( Pink ) is an affordable and travel-friendly mask pack that delivers softer and brighter skin. However, the cutting is poor and is only meant for smaller faces.

Review : A'pieu Raspberry Hair Vinegar

Product Description
Raspberry hair vinegar is a hair treatment that promises to give you a healthy scalp and hair.

I received a complimentary 100ml sized A'pieu Raspberry Hair Vinegar with my A'pieu purchases in Korea late last year. There is no box and the description is stated in Korean hence initially, I actually thought it was a leave-on hair conditioner.

When I first applied the hair vinegar on my hair ends, I thought it was odd that the texture is so runny and the opening of the plastic pink bottle has a pointed end and subsequently did a search online and realized, to my amusement that its a hair rinse product.

Made in Korea, A'pieu Raspberry Hair Vinegar has a strong raspberry fragrance and the water-like contents are easy to apply on the scalp after hair washing. Just tip the pointed end onto the scalp and shake the bottle and the contents would run out like water.

How To Use 
After shampoo, sprinkle on scalp and let it flow.
Lightly massage the hair and the scalp and rinse with lukewarm water.

Vinegar is known as a fermented food type in the olden days, filled with Vitamin C, amino acids, acetate and can help to remove waste in the body. A'pieu Raspberry Hair Vinegar is unlike an ordinary vinegar as it is gentle, helps to keep the scalp healthy and perfect the oil-moisture balance.

Unfortunately, I do not have the full ingredient list so I can't comment much on the concentration of the ingredients and what the list entails. However, I do think there is alcohol in the list as the sensation felt cooling on the scalp.

After depleting the bottle for over 2 months with alternate day usage, I don't think it made a major difference to my hair structure or softness. However, my scalp felt cleaner and does not oil up easily.

A'pieu Raspberry Hair Vinegar

Conclusion

Not a repurchase for me as I don't think it made a difference to my hair condition. But if you have an oily scalp, it may just work for you!

I received a sachet which allowed me to try out 3 times as alittle goes a long way. Certainly impressed with how lightweight the oil is, without leaving a shiny finishing on the skin. The distinct scent is apparent in the essence but I am now used to the scent without feeling being choked. I use Huxley Oil Essence before Huxley Gravity Cream.

A good friend has gifted me with 250ml sized L'Occitane Cherry Blossom Bath and Shower Gel as a Christmas gift some time back which took me awhile to finally use it just because it is so beautiful. 

Evoking the first days of spring, its fragrance is enhanced with a cherry extract from the Luberon region of Provence. When used as a shower gel, a botanical foaming base ensures a luxurious lather, and skin is left delicately perfumed. When used in the bath, it transforms into a rich foam, which releases the delicate and enveloping fragrance of Cherry Blossom. 

It comes in a clear plastic bottle with a tiny flick top cap that takes some effort to open it, if you have wet hands in the bathroom. It is embossed beautifully with floral illustration that would look so instagram-worthy but unfortunately, I don't have an instagram-worthy bathroom to match it. HAHA.

Formulated without parabens, sulphates and phthalates, The L'Occitane Cherry Blossom Bath and Shower Gel embraces the skin with delicate and captivating flowery fragrance that reminds one of cherry blossom, peony and rosewood which is perfect for those who are into floral notes. The pink-orange shower gel contains plenty of suds for a good lathering experience in the bathroom, leaving my skin clean and sweet-smelling. 

The bath and shower gel scored 3.9 from 15 users where 46% of them would repurchase it on Makeupalley with some commenting that the price is high and some liking the subtle floral fragrance.
