[ Review ] : Yves Rocher Body Scrub ( Winter Apples, Midnight Berries )

 

While shopping for Christmas gifts, I chanced upon Yves Rocher and promptly purchased Yves Rocher Winter Apples Body Scrub and Yves Rocher Midnight Berries Body Scrub which are limited editions specially for Christmas.

Made in France, Yves Rocher creates body care and skincare products made from natural botanical ingredients. Yves Rocher Winter Apples Body Scrub is housed in a 150ml orange tube with pretty Christmas illustrations. Definitely makes the perfect Christmas gift for friends. Initially I wasn't a fan of its scent as it smells alittle odd with a mixture of sweetness and bitterness - I can't even explain it, however with time, I have grown accustomed to the scent. 

Apricot (lat. Prunus Armeniaca) seed powder (crushed apricot kernel) is very often used in the skin care industry as a natural, mild scrub to remove all impurities from the surface of the skin which can clog the pores as well as dead skin cells to prevent them from thickening the skin and making the complexion dull.  

However, do note that rough particles, such as ground-up seeds or fruit pits, can create micro-tears in the skin, which leads to skin inflammation and even infection and that is how the controversy surrounding the use of St. Ives' Apricot Scrub started too. 

That said, even though Yves Rocher Winter Apples Body Scrub is used for the body but if you have sensitive skin, you may want to take note of that. 

When massaged into the skin, apricot seed powder acts as fine solid particles that promote the removal of damaged skin cells from the skin’s surface, thus leaving behind a softer, smoother skin texture and that was how I felt about Yves Rocher Winter Apples Body Scrub. 

The gel-like contents with exfoliating beads are non-drying, non-abrasive and left my skin soft and smooth! However, nearing to the end of the contents ( about 10% left ), skin felt slightly drying during usage.

Yves Rocher Midnight Berries Body Scrub is housed in a 150ml tube, similarly to the Winter Apples variant. However, I like this scent much better - it has a berries-scented sweetness. The gel-like contents with tiny exfoliating beads are soft and glide well on skin for a smooth scrub without being greasy. However, it is a little drying at times. Skin is left feeling soft, smooth and clean. 

It uses the same Apricot Seed Powder as Winter Apples variant, so if you have sensitive skin, do beware. The experience felt similar except for a different scent.

To conclude, these are decent body scrubs for the price paid and are suitable as Christmas gifts with their beautiful illustrations. I would prefer Yves Rocher Midnight Berries Body Scrub for the scent, out of the 2 variants but I would not repurchase it as it was slightly dry. 

My all-time favourite body scrubs are Giovanni Hot Chocolate Sugar Scrub and Origins Smoothing Ginger Body Scrub.

[ Review ] Yves Rocher Bourbon Vanilla Sensual Sugar Body Scrub

I am always on the lookout for body scrubs as I like keeping my skin soft, clean and smooth. Yves Rocher Bourbon Vanilla Sensual Sugar Body Scrub seems like an interesting product so I pop one into my basket. Thank goodness, it was on sale for $5 during Luxasia sale because I really dislike it and would have hated it if I paid the full price.

It was quite a badly formulated product, in my opinion. Yes it smells alright, with a sweet sugary vanilla scent. However, it works differently as compared to how a usual body scrub is - the nitty gritty beads provides a light exfoliating action as you scrub your body before disappearing and changing into a sticky gummy-like texture, coating the skin with a layer of film, making your skin instantly smooth.

Perhaps this is considered as an innovative creation by Yves Rocher but to me, its like deceiving me, coating my skin with a film and trying to act like it has smoothened out your skin and if your fingers accidentally scratch your skin, the film got stuck underneath your nails - yucks!

I really really dislike the product. During the initial usages, I practically use my dry brushing brush to scrub away the film on my skin which then ended up as a chunk on my brush and I ended up having to scrub them off the brush instead.

So instead of doing a body exfoliation for my body only, it becomes scrubbing it off my body and my brush! That said, Yves Rocher Bourbon Vanilla Sensual Sugar Body Scrub has a sweet vanilla scent which may be a hit with vanilla fans.

In conclusion, I would not repurchase the body scrub or recommend it!

Review : Yves Rocher Low ShamPoo Delicate Cleansing Cream

Hailing from France, Yves Rocher carries an affordable range of skincare, haircare and bodycare products. They used to be pretty predominant in Singapore but exited the market and re-entered in recent years. You can check out the range of products which I have reviewed in the past in this link.

Sulfate-free, silicone-free, colorant-free and paraben-free, Yves Rocher Low ShamPoo Delicate Cleansing Cream comes in a 200ml plastic tube that contains the cleansing cream which is thick and does not lather at all. It is inspired by the no poo method which simply meant washing hair with a gentle alternative to shampoo, such as baking soda, apple cider vinegar or just water only, so that one can achieve clean hair without the damage or dependency on daily shampooing. In short, instead of allowing chemicals in shampoo to strip your hair, strip away the chemicals instead and stop using shampoo altogether. You can read more about the method here.

So for those who are lazy with the DIY method of using other alternatives yet like to try the No Poo Method then Yves Rocher Low ShamPoo Delicate Cleansing Cream would be a good starting product.

Honestly speaking, I was pretty turned-off when I first try the product. The "shampoo" or cleansing cream is thick like a hair conditioner ( but not slippery ) and imagine using that on the hair, how can you even get those contents all around the hair, lather and rinse it off? There was no foam at all so the massaging and lathering action were non-existent and its like putting on a glob of cream on the hair and it doesn't move. I tried adding more water and more cleansing cream but it does not make a difference. I felt that my hair is unclean and I dislike shampoo-ing my hair. I chunk the tube aside and move on to other products. That is how much I hated it.

Several months down the road, I tried using Yves Rocher Low ShamPoo Delicate Cleansing Cream again. I am not one who waste products so I don't leave half-used products all over my bathroom. Viola, the experience didn't turn out too badly. I am surprised that my hair can actually take the cleansing cream well, leaving it soft and clean.

I am not even sure how my hair can take it this time round, perhaps it really needs some time for adjustment purposes. Even though there is no foam, but I still try to use it the way I usually lather the shampoo on my hair, not even sure if the cleansing cream gets all around the hair, but apparently it does, because my hair was definitely softer than before. Strangely, I didn't even use more water or more cleansing cream but it works in cleansing my hair. I can't even explain how and why. HAHA!

I didn't use any conditioner because you don't even need one. Yves Rocher Low ShamPoo Delicate Cleansing Cream makes my hair soft and manageable. However, if you ask me if I would repurchase, I really don't think so because, I am not sure if my hair would dislike the experience like the first time.

Review : Yves Rocher Verbena Leaves Shower Gel

Product Description
This finely foaming Shower Gel with Organic Aloe Vera wraps your skin softness and leaves a subtle fragrance on the skin. Aloe Vera gel from organic cultivation and absolute of lemon verbena in the perfume. This formula contains more than 97% of vegetable components. Without dyes and paraben. 

Yves Rocher Verbena Leaves Shower Gel is housed in a clear slim tube-like container which is handy, convenient and portable for travels. The flick-top cap is tight and secure which makes it less likely to leak. 

Clear in colour with a gel consistency, the shower gel provides much lathering and suds but left a subtle drying after-feel. 

An affordable decent product for showering if you don't have dry skin but I believe there are better products out there. 

Review : Yves Rocher Shower Oil Care

Mineral oil-free and paraben-free, Yves Rocher Shower Oil Care is really what the name says - a shower oil. Housed in a flick-top cap, the shower oil care is oil-based, hence giving rise to an oily texture, without the stickiness.

For someone who is used to shower gel all her life, the Yves Rocher Shower Oil Care certainly needs some adjusting on my end. I don't quite fancy the no-lathering-foam-at-all and the slippery oil texture during showering. Granted, I have used bath oil before, but that is in a bath tub which is very different from using it during shower.

And according to the instructions on the bottle, you can use a shower gel prior to this shower oil, in order to keep your dry skin moisturised.

I think this shower gel-prior to shower oil method is good for those with very dry skin or people who battle with dryness during the winter weather. As for me, although my skin is dry at times, but I think it is still manageable, so I prefer to use Yves Rocher Shower Oil Care alone.

I love the scent and while the shower oil did provide a decent wash with a layer of moisturising film on skin, without the need for a body lotion thereafter, I still prefer a regular shower gel. Just because I am a shower gel kind of gal.

Review : Yves Rocher Bourbon Vanilla Bath & Shower Gel

Housed in a slim clear bottle with a 200ml capacity and a flick-top cap, Yves Rocher Bourbon Vanilla Bath and Shower Gel is strong in fragrance with a cloying hint of over-sweetness mixed with vanilla. Neither do I hate it nor like it. At times, I could feel some debris during lathering but I can't tell what it is as it is not visible in contents. 

The consistency is what the name implies - a gel, with a dark amber colour. It lathers pretty well and left my skin feeling clean. However, after several days of washes, I could feel my skin getting a little dry.

Review : Yves Rocher Hair Repair Oil

Yves Rocher came back to Singapore with a revamp and prices seem more affordable. There are always some discounts going on and I managed to snag this Yves Rocher Hair Repair Oil for $14 instead of the original $20 during the last Great Singapore Sale. 

This 150ml honey coloured contents, stored in a plastic bottle, with a twist and turn cap can lasts for a while, if you follow the recommended instruction by using it twice a week. I am not sure why it is supposed to be used only twice a week as I don't feel that the oil is deeply intense enough to be used that way. However, the promoter told me I can use it every day if I want to.

Review : Yves Rocher Wrinkles & Radiance Express Beauty Vials

And since my skin was in need of some brightening and anti-aging treatment and 4 days isn't too long, I picked them up from one of the stores during our Great Singapore Sale. It costs $16, down from the usual $20.

Review : Yves Rocher Botanical Scrub

- Mexican agave sap from organically grown ingredients for its moisturizing properties

Yves Rocher has once exited our Singapore shores but its back again, with better pricing and more promotions. A 150ml size of the Yves Rocher Botanical Scrub costs $27 but I purchased it at $18.90 after a 30% discount during the GSS last year. 

The tube is easy to use with light depressions where the contents flow out easily. Simple and no-frills. It has a uplifting scent which is perfect for the lazy mornings where you force yourself to move your butt for work or school. 

The scrub is creamy with tiny beads that will hardly hurt your skin just because it is so mild and gentle. It does made my skin softer and slightly smoother but it is not the Wow kind. 

Review : Yves Rocher Anti-Slackening Supra Lift Mask

Product Description
The Supra Lift Mask comes with a massaging brush tip that plumps cheeks and facial contours. It reduces the appearance of pronounced wrinkles as it increases skin firmness. The stimulating action of the brush on your skin, combined with the micro-exfoliating botanical AHA molecule, instantly boosts the radiance of your complexion.

I picked up Yves Rocher Anti-Slackening Supra Lift Mask at a steal during a Luxasia warehouse sale. I was curious to see how it will fare on my cherubic cheeks since they will be prone to sagging when age creeps up.

To use the product, twist the brush head to "on". Squeeze the bottle, to get the cream moving out onto the bristles. Apply the contents upwards starting from the base of jaws to cheekbones. It is recommended to apply it thickly twice a week onto the 3 main sagging skin zones namely, cheekbones, jawline and neck.

I use the mask more often on the cheekbones and jawline, skipping the neck area as I tend to use it after bathing. The scent is strong and is apparent even after mask application.
The effect is more pronounced if the application is thick, making my jaws look subtly sharper and lifted. However, the radiance, if any, is not obvious.

Note that, it requires more effort to rinse off and I tend to use more water than normal, just to cleanse it off my skin.
