Kao Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ sounds like a dream comes true for many of us - SPF 50, PA++++, high staying power and its a watery essence which can be translated to be non-sticky. Curious about it, I redeemed a 15ml sample after learning about Kao's sampling campaign. Read on to find out more.
It was apt that I brought it along to test out in Bali's weather back in June. Yay! I didn't turn any darker but please note that, I also applied my favourite VMV Hypoallergenics Skintangible "Faint"tation BBBB Cream after applying Kao Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ and added on Jane Iredale Powder-Me SPF after RMS Beauty "Un" Powder. It may seem like a lot of products but all of them are pretty lightweight so my skin still look and feel pretty au natural.
I pay a lot of attention to my skincare products when I travel and I like to plan ahead on what to bring, so that I have time to get them before my trip starts. For my Bali trip, I actually also brought along my favourite A"Pieu Pure Block Natural Sun Cream SPF 45 PA++++, just in case Kao Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ didn't work out too well but I didn't use it in the end, because Kao Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence SPF 50+ PA++++ did perform as what it claims to do.
It uses the following ingredients to protect against the sun
Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate : full UVB protection, partial UVA protection
Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine : full UVA and UVB protection
Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate : partial UVA protection
The texture, as what the name implies is like a lotion and with alcohol as the 2nd ingredient, it is also cooling and cold when applied. Under humid condition, like Singapore and Bali, the cooling sensation is a welcome treat to some but I personally can do without the alcohol because it dries out the skin with long term usage. The scent of alcohol is also strong.
I used it on both arms and face during the 4 days in Bali and there is no greasiness, white cast or clogged issues, just because it is so light, so you can literally apply a few layers on skin without much problem. The only pet peeve is the alcohol. I didn't like it, to be on the face. I am less stringent when its applied on the arms and body though.
If you are someone who's out in the sun everyday for long hours and is not sensitive to alcohol, you may want to consider this sunscreen. It gives full protection against UVA (age the skin) and UVB (burn the skin).
