Olay Regenerist RETINOL24 Night Eye Cream penetrates deep into the delicate skin surface around your eyes. And its safe enough to use every night with virtually no irritation. Apply nightly to the skin around your eyes for 24-hour hydration. Retinol 24 Eye cream visibly firms, brightens, evens skin tone, and reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and dark circles. It has a light, silky feel and absorbs quickly, going deep into your skins surface so you wake up every morning to plumper, younger-looking and radiant eyes. This formula is fragrance free and free of dyes.
WHERE TO BUY : Amazon
This is my first time trying an Olay product, despite the brand having been available in Singapore for many years. After finishing Dermalogica Multivitamin Power Firm Eye Cream and Kleem Organics Firming Eye Cream, I decided to try something different and incorporate retinol into my eye care routine.
Olay Retinol24 Night Eye Cream is formulated with Olay's proprietary Retinol24 complex and niacinamide. The brand claims that this combination helps resurface the skin, visibly smooth fine lines, improve skin texture and reveal brighter-looking eyes, while providing up to 24 hours of hydration.
Made in Thailand, Olay Retinol24 Night Eye Cream is marketed as being free from added fragrance, synthetic dyes and mineral oil. Despite my initial concerns about whether a retinol eye cream might leave my undereye area feeling dry or contribute to milia, I was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it felt on my skin.
Packaging, Scent and Texture
Olay Retinol24 Night Eye Cream comes in a 15ml tub housed in a relatively large outer carton. While the jar is compact enough for a skincare collection, I found the amount of paper packaging excessive for such a small product.
The eye cream is fragrance-free, which I appreciate, especially for a product formulated for the delicate eye area. Its white, creamy texture looks rather rich at first glance, but it has a silky feel and spreads easily over the skin.
How To Use :
1) Cleanse your skin to remove all traces of makeup, and buildup of dirt and oil.
2) Apply the desired amount and gently massage it into the skin until fully absorbed. Use nightly for best results.
3) Use SPF during the daytime to hydrate and protect your skin.
Performance and Ingredients
After using Olay Retinol24 Night Eye Cream regularly (nightly) for almost a year, I found it comfortable and nourishing for my undereye area. My skin did not feel dry, and I was relieved that I did not notice any milia developing during the testing period.
However, I did not see an improvement in fine lines or overall appearance of my undereye area. The main benefit I noticed was a smoother-looking eye area when I layered the cream with other skincare products.
One of the main reasons I chose this eye cream was its Retinol24 complex. Retinol is a vitamin A derivative commonly used in anti-ageing skincare because it can help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin texture over time.
Olay's published ingredient list includes both retinol and retinyl propionate, another vitamin A derivative. The formula also contains niacinamide and vitamin E, which support skin hydration and provide antioxidant benefits, respectively. Glycerin helps attract moisture to the skin, while dimethicone and related silicone ingredients help create a smooth, soft skin feel.
There is also scientific research investigating retinoids for the delicate eye area. A randomised controlled study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology in 2009 examined retinyl retinoate, a retinoid derivative, in 46 Korean women with wrinkles around the eyes. The researchers found improvements in wrinkle appearance compared with a placebo and, in a separate comparison, with retinol over the study period. Read the study on PubMed.
It is important to note that this study investigated retinyl retinoate, not Olay Retinol24 Night Eye Cream. Therefore, its findings support the potential of certain retinoids for improving the appearance of periorbital wrinkles, but they do not establish the effectiveness of this particular product.
Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, is another useful ingredient in this eye cream. It supports the skin barrier and helps maintain hydration, which can make the skin look smoother and more supple.
For my undereye area, which can feel dry and show fine lines more prominently when dehydrated, the moisturising properties of this formula were a definite plus. The cream kept my skin comfortable without the dryness I had initially worried about when introducing a retinol eye product.
Water, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Polyacrylamide, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Titanium Dioxide, Retinyl Propionate, Laureth-4, Polysorbate 20, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Hydroxyacetophenone, Laureth-7, Dimethiconol, Aminomethyl Propanol, Phenoxyethanol, Disodium EDTA, Niacinamide, Tocopheryl Acetate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Retinol
Conclusion
To conclude, Olay Retinol24 Night Eye Cream is a fragrance-free retinol eye cream that offers comfortable hydration and a silky texture. I appreciated how nourishing it felt on my undereye area, and I did not experience the dryness or milia I had initially been concerned about.
However, after almost a year of nightly use, I was underwhelmed by its anti-ageing performance. Although it helped my undereye area look smoother when layered with other skincare products, it did not deliver the more visible anti-ageing results I had hoped for when I decided to try retinol.
As with other retinol products, it is sensible to introduce the cream gradually if you are new to retinoids, monitor your skin for irritation and use sunscreen during the day. Avoid retinoids during pregnancy unless your healthcare professional advises otherwise.
