IAC-labo Rice Mask is a facial sheet mask formulated with four types of 100% domestically sourced rice. Its rice fermentation solution helps prevent rough skin, leaving the complexion feeling fresh and looking radiant. Ceramide helps maintain skin hydration and support the skin’s moisture barrier, keeping the skin moisturised and balanced.
I purchased several Japanese facial sheet masks during my trip to Hokkaido, including the Lululun Hokkaido Milk Mask, Lululun Hokkaido Premium Face Mask Sheet Honey and Lululun Hokkaido Melon Face Mask. The IAC-labo Rice Mask was another addition to my skincare haul.
Featuring rice-derived ingredients, this Japanese sheet mask is designed to help keep the skin moisturised, smooth and radiant. With rice ferment filtrate, rice bran extract, rice bran oil and rice ceramide among its highlighted ingredients, it offers a simple way to incorporate rice-based skincare into my routine.
Packaging, Scent and Texture
The IAC-labo Rice Mask comes in a resealable pack containing 10 sheet masks, folded and stacked on top of one another. This packaging is convenient for regular use, although I prefer to handle the sheets carefully when removing them from the pack.
The sheet mask is heavily soaked in essence and fits snugly against my facial contours. However, the material tears easily when I try to adjust its position, so I have to be careful when applying it.
According to the product description, the mask uses Palcloth Sheet Material, a specialised, highly absorbent material designed to conform closely to the contours of the face.
Made in Japan, the IAC-labo Rice Mask has a strong alcohol scent that I am not particularly fond of. The scent is quite noticeable during application, which may be a drawback for those who prefer fragrance-free skincare or are sensitive to strong product odours.
How To Use :
1) Wash the face.
2) Take the mask from the bag and fit the whole face.
3) After 10 to 15 mins peel off the mask and wash off.
4) Peel it off and gently rub the remaining liquid into your face.
Performance and Ingredients
After using the IAC-labo Rice Mask, my skin felt smoother and moderately hydrated. While I appreciated the improvement in skin texture, the hydration was not particularly intensive.
The mask features several rice-derived ingredients with potential skin-conditioning and moisturising benefits.
Rice Ferment Filtrate (Sake): Prevents rough skin and leaves the complexion fresh
Rice Bran Extract & Rice Bran Oil: Rice bran contains naturally occurring lipids and other compounds that may help condition the skin. Rice bran oil can also contribute emollient properties, helping soften the skin and reduce moisture loss.
Rice Ceramide: Ceramides are lipids naturally present in the skin barrier. They help maintain the skin's protective structure and reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL), which is the amount of water lost from the skin to the surrounding environment.
Research published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences in 2023 examined rice-derived glucosylceramides and ceramides using a reconstructed human epidermal model. Certain rice-derived lipid molecules were found to reduce transepidermal water loss, suggesting potential moisturising and skin-barrier benefits.

Conclusion
To conclude, IAC-labo Rice Mask is a Japanese facial sheet mask that offers moderate hydration and leaves my skin feeling smoother. I appreciate its rice-derived ingredients, particularly rice bran oil and rice ceramide, which have potential skin-conditioning and moisturising benefits. However, the hydration was not particularly impressive, and the strong alcohol scent was a drawback for me.
