Smith Total Sunscreen Review
Product Description
Protect your skin regularly with this lightweight, chemical-free sunscreen. Smith Total Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ effectively protects against UVA, UVB, and infrared rays while shielding against collagen damage, a major cause of wrinkles and uneven skin tone. Suitable for daily use.

I try not to open too many sunscreens at once, so I only started using Smith Total Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ after finishing my Cell Fusion C Laser UV Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ and P.Calm Water Barrier Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++

The brand, Smith Skin is a Thai brand developed by dermatologists, and focused on hypoallergenic, gentle and effective formulas.

Smith Total Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++ was on my must-buy list, and I asked my husband to get it for me during his trip to Bangkok, Thailand. Thai sunscreens are known for their lightweight texture and strong UV protection, making them perfect for hot and humid weather.

Another sunscreen he brought back from Thailand was the 28 Nature & Pure Protection UV Cut Aqua Sunscreen SPF50+ PA+++, another popular Thai sunscreen that promises broad-spectrum protection with a lightweight, aqua-based formula suitable for everyday use, however, it wasn't the best fit for me.

Lets delve down to Smith Total Sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Smith Total Sunscreen Texture

Smith Total Sunscreen comes in a compact 30g tube that features a clean, minimalistic design, perfect for travel and everyday carry. The uniquely shaped cap adds a distinctive touch while ensuring the product stays secure in your bag. The nozzle dispenses the beige, creamy sunscreen smoothly and in controlled amounts, making application hygienic and fuss-free.

In terms of scent, this sunscreen does not have a strong or overpowering fragrance. Although perfume is listed towards the end of the ingredient list, the scent is barely noticeable during application and does not linger on the skin making it suitable even for those who prefer low-fragrance skincare products.

The texture is velvety smooth, creamy yet spreadable, gliding easily over the skin without feeling overly thick. Despite its beige tint, it blends out well and works comfortably as a daily broad-spectrum sunscreen under makeup.

Performance and Ingredients

As a mineral sunscreen SPF50+ PA++++, I was initially surprised to see that Smith Total Sunscreen has a beige tint. Since mineral sunscreens are often associated with a visible white cast, I wasn’t sure how it would perform on my fair skin. Adding on, I had a zit twice, while using Smith Total Sunscreen, followed by La Roche-Posay Uvidea Anthelios Melt-In Tinted Cream but thankfully no issues thereafter.

The subtle beige tone helps neutralise and “soften” any potential white cast, allowing the sunscreen to blend seamlessly into the skin. While it does not provide foundation-like coverage, the tint gives a slight tone that makes the complexion look more natural and polished.

Formulated as a physical (mineral) sunscreen, it feels gentle and suitable for sensitive skin. I personally prefer mineral sunscreens for morning use especially when my skin is feeling reactive.

The texture is smooth, lightweight, and easy to spread. It glides effortlessly across the skin and absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy or heavy finish. Despite its creamy consistency, it feels breathable and comfortable making it an excellent non-greasy sunscreen for everyday wear, even in hot and humid weather.

I usually use Smith Total Sunscreen on my work-in-office days, where I pair it with a tinted sunscreen and a light layer of loose powder to complete my daytime skincare routine. The finish layers well under makeup without pilling, making it practical for long office hours.

With an SPF of 50 PA++++, this sunscreen helps to protect against UVA and UVB rays. An SPF 50 product protects you from 98 percent of UVB "burning" rays that penetrate your skin, while PA++++ offers extremely high UVA protection..

The letters “PA” followed by plus signs on a label are a rating system developed in Japan to represent how much UVA protection the product offers.

This is what each PA rating means:
PA+ = Some UVA protection.
PA++ = Moderate UVA protection.
PA+++ = High UVA protection.
PA++++ = Extremely High UVA protection.

The 2 UV filters are.....

Zinc Oxide: A physical sun filter that offers broad spectrum protection

Titanium Dioxide: A physical sun filter that protects against uv-B and uv-A and is tolerated well by sensitive skin types.

Conclusion

To conclude, Smith Total Sunscreen exceeded my expectations for a mineral sunscreen. From its lightweight creamy texture to its subtle beige tint that helps minimise white cast, it delivers comfortable daily sun protection without feeling heavy or greasy on the skin.

As someone with sensitive skin, I appreciate that this mineral sunscreen feels gentle yet provides high broad-spectrum protection (SPF50+ PA++++), making it suitable for everyday wear.
