Bondi Sands Thirsty Skin Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum Review

Product Description
Made to quench thirsty skin (read: skin that feels dry, right or ‘squeaky’ with flaky patches or peeling), the Thirsty Skin Hyaluronic Acid Serum is a boon for all dehydrated skin types. Brimming with hyaluronic acid, a humectant that pulls moisture into skin from its surroundings as well as antioxidant-rich algae extract, this dew-boosting formula intensely hydrates skin, locks in moisture and leaves skin feeling soft, supple, plump and perky. Totally safe for use on sensitive skin and made to dance well with blemish-prone complexions, this serum won’t clog pores or irritate with any artificial fragrance.

If you’re dealing with dehydrated skin that feels tight, looks dull, and struggles to hold onto moisture, a hyaluronic acid serum can be a true skin saviour. Unlike dry skin, dehydrated skin lacks water, which often makes fine lines more visible and causes makeup to sit poorly. As someone with combination skin and dehydrated surface myself, keeping my skin well-hydrated without overwhelming it is always a priority.

I purchased the Bondi Sands Thirsty Skin Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum during my last trip to Perth, when my skin was constantly challenged by the scorching daytime heat and air-conditioning at night. The constant temperature changes left my skin feeling tight and in need of extra hydration.

Wanting to try Australian skincare, I picked up this serum from Chemist Warehouse, especially since hyaluronic acid has always worked well on my skin. This also marked my first foray into the Bondi Sands brand which is said to be packed with Australian natural botanicals and powered by science backed ingredients.

Hyaluronic acid is a powerful humectant that attracts and retains moisture in the skin, helping to instantly plump, smooth, and rehydrate dehydrated skin layers. A well-formulated hyaluronic acid serum can improve skin elasticity, support the skin barrier, and restore that healthy, supple glow.

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Bondi Sands Thirsty Skin Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum Texture

Bondi Sands Thirsty Skin Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum is housed in a 30ml lightweight plastic bottle with a squeeze-style dispenser, allowing for controlled and hygienic dispensing of the gel serum. The compact size also makes it travel-friendly and suitable for daily use.

As the bottle gets close to being fully used up, it’s helpful to store it upside down so the gel serum can flow downward more easily. This makes squeezing out the remaining product more effortless and ensures minimal wastage.

The serum has a subtle, naturally occurring scent that is mild and non-overpowering, making it suitable for those who prefer fragrance-light skincare products.

Texture-wise, this gel-based hyaluronic acid serum spreads smoothly over the skin and absorbs relatively quickly. While it initially leaves a tacky feel, this gradually settles over time, resulting in a smooth finish on the skin.

How To Use :
1) Apply two to three drops of Bondi Sands Thirsty Skin Hyaluronic Acid Serum to clean, damp skin.
2) Once absorbed, follow with other serums or oils and finish with moisturiser.

Tip : For best results, apply morning and night.

Performance and Ingredients

Unfortunately, this hyaluronic acid serum did not perform as well as expected for my dehydrated skin. While the initial tackiness does eventually absorb and settle into a smoother finish, it takes longer than I would prefer. On busy or rushed mornings, layering skincare and makeup over the serum before it has fully absorbed often results in pilling, which affects makeup application.

Although hyaluronic acid is best applied on damp skin which I consistently do, the serum did not provide the level of hydration or moisture retention my skin typically responds to, making the results feel underwhelming.

On a positive note, the tacky feel disappears more quickly when paired with the ROUND LAB Birch Juice Moisturizing Sun Stick. However, pilling remains an issue when layered with the Filorga Hydra-Hyal Cream Hydrating Plumping Water Cream, and even mixing the serum directly into the moisturiser did not improve compatibility. Because of this, I now reserve this hyaluronic acid serum for makeup-free days, where layering issues are less noticeable.

Aqua (Water), Butylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Ethoxydiglycol, Phenoxyethanol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Glycerin, Propanediol, Lecithin, Hydrogenated Starch Hydrolysate, Erythritol, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Fruit Extract, Aphanizomenon Flos-Aquae Extract

Conclusion

To conclude, Bondi Sands Thirsty Skin Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Serum may appeal to those looking for a basic hyaluronic acid serum with a lightweight gel texture, especially for makeup-free routines

However, for dehydrated skin, the hydration levels fell short of expectations. Despite being applied on damp skin, the serum did not deliver lasting moisture or the plumping effect I usually experience with well-formulated hyaluronic acid products.

The tacky texture and tendency to pill, particularly when layered with moisturisers, sunscreen, or makeup, made it less practical for rushed mornings or full daytime routines.
