Sunstick is a convenient, mess-free form of sunscreen designed for easy, on-the-go sun protection. Unlike traditional lotions or creams, sunsticks come in a solid balm format that glides smoothly onto the skin without dripping or leaving sticky residue.
They are especially popular for reapplication throughout the day, making them ideal for busy lifestyles, outdoor activities, and touch-ups over makeup. With options formulated for sensitive skin, oily skin, and even water-resistant wear, sunsticks have become a must-have in modern sun care routines for effective UV protection anytime, anywhere.
After emptying Miguhara Daily Herb Sun Stick, it was time to try out a new one I purchased from my last Korea trip. Unlike others who prefer to use sun stick as a reapplication mode, I primarily use it after my skincare like a primer plus additional sun protection for the face.
Round Lab from Korea, has been gaining traction on social media for its 1025 Dokdo Toner and Birch Moisturizing Sunscreen. Both are in my arsenal but not yet opened for use as I wanted to focus on my current opened products. Their products are known to be gentle, effective and kind to sensitive skin with its clean and soothing ingredients.
Packaging, Scent and Texture
ROUND LAB Birch Juice Moisturizing Sun Stick comes in a 19g twist-up tube, designed for easy and hygienic application. The sun stick features a snap-on cap, with a clear lid that protects it from dust and contamination which is ideal for on-the-go use.
However, the clear lid may detach easily if I pulled off the snap-on cap too quickly hence slowing down when removing the cap helps prevent the clear lid from dropping off.
In terms of scent, this chemical sunscreen sun stick is unscented, making it suitable for sensitive skin and those who prefer a minimal, no-scent skincare routine.
The texture is soft, smooth, and balm-like, allowing the sun stick to glide effortlessly across the skin without tugging. It melts slightly upon contact, leaving a comfortable, moisturizing feel without excessive greasiness, just perfect for quick reapplication throughout the day.
How To Use :
1) As the last step of a skincare routine, gently apply a sufficient amount on skin, spread it out as if creating a barrier.
2) Before use, gently raise the content slightly(about 5mm). Due to the stick-type formulation, excessive twisting may lead to product breakage or separation.
Performance and Ingredients
ROUND LAB Birch Juice Moisturizing Sun Stick glides smoothly over the skin, delivering comfortable sun protection with a light, moisturizing finish. It leaves a subtle sheen upon application, but it does not feel overly greasy or heavy, making it suitable for daily use. The formula sits well on the skin without tugging, allowing for effortless and even coverage.
In my routine, I typically use this sunscreen sun stick as a base layer, followed by a sunscreen lotion, a tinted sunscreen, and a mattifying loose powder. This layering approach works well for me on most days, helping to balance sun protection, and shine control throughout the day.
The key ingredients are....
Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice(1,045ppm) : Has a special ability to reduce inflammation, purifies, and hydrates skin with 17 amino acids, minerals, antioxidants, and vitamins.
Glyceryl Glucoside : Plays a role in boosting skin's skin's enzymatic antioxidants, which improves skin's environmental defenses. This includes reducing skin's tendency to become dehydrated.
Hyaluronic Acid : Creates hydration and leads to plumper and smoother skin.
The 4 UV filters are....
Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate : A new generation, chemical sunscreen agent with high UVA protection and high photostability. Also known as Uvinul A Plus.
Ethylhexyl Triazone : A new generation, chemical sunscreen that gives the highest photo-stable absorption of all available UVB filters today. Also known as Octyl Triazone and Uvinul T 150.
Polysilicone-15 : A chemical sunscreen agent with UVB protection. It also help to stabilize the famously unstable UVA filter, avobenzone and works especially well with Ensulizole to achieve high SPF protection. Also known as Parsol SLX
Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine : A broad-spectrum ( full UVA and UVB protection ) chemical sunscreen agent which is also known as Tinosorb S. Hardly deteriorates in the presence of UV.
However, do note that it also contains Butyloctyl Salicylate, another chemical UV filter not registered as a sunscreen active yet.
Butyloctyl Salicylate : Helps to increase the SPF rating and enhance the stability of other UV filters like Oxybenzone and Avobenzone. It is not reef-safe. Currently not registered as a sunscreen active yet.
Said to be the modified version of the chemical UV filter Octisalate which was created intentionally by the sunscreen industry to avoid having Octislate on the ingredient listing as a declared active and used by formulators to disguise the presence of a ‘chemical’ UV filter in mineral sunscreen formulas. It is also used to reduce the amount of inorganic mineral filters needed to get a desired labelled SPF and PPD rating. (source)
Disclaimer : My purchased product is in Korean language, and even after translation, it doesn't state the full ingredient list so I copied the list from website. Hope its the same as mine.

Conclusion
To conclude, ROUND LAB Birch Juice Moisturizing Sun Stick is a convenient and beginner-friendly option. Its smooth, balm-like texture glides comfortably on the skin, providing lightweight sun protection without feeling overly greasy.
While the inner clear lid could be more secure, the formula itself performs well as part of a layered sunscreen routine. If you’re looking for a portable sun stick sunscreen that is easy to apply, gentle on the skin, and suitable for everyday use, this sun stick is worth a consideration, however, I wouldn't recommend using a sun stick as a single sun protection.
This sun stick is manufactured by Kolmar Korea, the same manufacturer used by Skin1004 Hyalu-Cica Silky-Fit Sun Stick and Benton Mineral Sun Stick SPF50 PA++++ so you might find the textures almost similar.
