Grown Alchemist Strengthening Shampoo 0.2 Review

Product Description
Grown Alchemist Strengthening Shampoo 0.2 is an advanced formulation that thoroughly cleanses, while repairing hair weakened by chemical processes, heat styling and environmental exposure, leaving hair looking healthy, hydrated, soft and shiny.

If you have been following me for awhile, you probably know that I have tried a number of products from Grown Alchemist with the Grown Alchemist Hydra Restore Cream Cleanser as my absolute favourite. Not all products work fairly well for me though, so I won't count Grown Alchemist as my favourite brand but I do look forward to trying new products from them, time to time.

Hailing from Australia, Grown Alchemist formulates products which represent a new evolution in skincare through the understanding of cellular renewal and nutrient metabolisation,

With a holistic scientific approach, Grown Alchemist is said to identify the mechanisms that regulate the aging process of the body and skin by leveraging the body’s natural capability to slow and in many cases, reverse the aging of the body and in particular, the skin. Read more on their website

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Grown Alchemist Strengthening Shampoo 0.2 is housed in a 200ml white plastic bottle with a flick top cap in its signature monochromatic and stylish design. Light yellow in colour, the shampoo has a soothing Ylang Ylang scent with a gel texture that lathers moderately well.

Performance and Ingredients

Formulated with Hydrolyzed BaoBab Protein, Calendula and Eclipta Alba to strengthen and cleanse the hair while maintaining your hair's natural moisturising factors. Calendula helps to soothe and calm the scalp thanks to its rich content of Flavanoids which promote faster, stronger hair re-growth. Plant-derived Liposomes bond actives to the outer layers of the hair shaft and cuticle, and optimize the delivery of actives for healthier-looking, resilient hair.

This was my first shampoo from Grown Alchemist and I was looking forward to using it but unfortunately, it had been a disappointing experience.

In a bid to reduce hair loss, my hubby's stylist had suggested him to alternate between a strengthening shampoo and a hair loss shampoo to reap benefits from both types ( prevent and strengthen ). It sounded logical to me, so I purchase the first strengthening shampoo I saw online - Grown Alchemist Strengthening Shampoo 0.2.

Ahh, I regretted my choice the first time I used it. The foaming action wasn't much which I am used to it, but the lack of foam made lathering in this shampoo a difficult process ( which doesn't happen to other shampoos I have tried before ) and also made my hair clumpy and hard.

More hair fall ensued ( where was the strengthening action, I muse? ) and my hair was in a straw-like state during the rinsing action but thankfully, was gone once my hair was dried.

I tried adding pure coconut oil prior to shampoo-ing to make the process easier and more manageable but unfortunately, the addition of coconut oil made my hair sticky and even more difficult to rinse.

After using the shampoo alone for a while, the hair fall has stopped but it still wasn't a pleasant experience from start to end. My hair was weighed down - flatter, straighter and less voluminous which were obvious in photos taken with friends. Haiz.

Luckily, I have Eloise Gold Crystal Hair Repair Treatment which made my hair so soft and smooth - I used it prior to shampoo-ing and it made the whole process so much easier.

Conclusion

To conclude, Grown Alchemist Strengthening Shampoo 0.2 has been a letdown - from the straw like state during rinsing to hair fall and finally the weighed down effect after prolonged usage. Not a repurchase!
