Also known as snail slime, snail mucin is the excretion from a snail, which is why it is also known and appears on ingredient labels as snail secretion filtrate or SSF. It is one of the buzziest ingredients in the skincare world because its been said to be an effective ingredient offering noticeable results. It moisturizes skin, promotes collagen production, aids in skin healing and regeneration.
According to Iunik, black snails can hibernate for 6 months without drying as snail mucin helps the skin restore itself and stay supple and smooth.
Packaging, Scent and Texture
Similarly to Iunik Tea Tree Relief Serum, Iunik Black Snail Restore Serum also has an authenticity sticker seal on its box packaging.

Iunik Black Snail Restore Serum comes in a glass dropper bottle filled with 50ml of clear serum. The lightweight texture is slightly sticky with a subtle "stringing" consistency and left a slight tackiness on the skin which gets absorbed into the skin after a short while. I cannot detect much of a scent which is great. I typically use about 1 ~ 2 drops of the serum.

Using the dropper, gently apply an appropriate amount onto your face and allow to absorb
Performance and Ingredients
Made in Korea, Iunik Black Snail Restore Serum is a highly concentrated serum said to give smooth, elastic skin by nourishing the skin's natural power. Enriched with 70% Black Snail Extract to improve skin elasticity, 5 black super foods ( Black Beans, Black Rice, Black Sesame, Kelp and Eggplant ) for anti-oxidant benefits, Centella Extract to smooth wrinkles and face scars; along with Mistletoe and Soybean Ferment Extracts to repair and moisturize skin and promote cell turnover.
What I like about Iunik serums is their lightweight textures as stickiness and greasiness are not welcomed in my books. The point of serums is to deliver transformative ingredients to the deeper levels of the skin where they can work their magic. To do that, they need to be lightweight, easily absorbed, and ultra-efficient and that is where Iunik serums hit all the right notes.
Iunik Black Snail Restore Serum has a lightweight, fluid texture which sinks into skin quickly, leaving my skin nourished, hydrated and plumped.
I also tried it on days when my skin was dehydrated and rough and immediately after using the Black Snail Restore Serum, my skin was much comforted and nourished. Rough edges were gone and skin became smooth. That said, I have to say it does not work every time as it largely depends on the severity of my dehydrated and rough patches but thank goodness, I don't have such patches often enough to do a continuous testing of the product's efficacy.
And if the skin is irritated and red, applying Iunik Black Snail Restore Serum helps to tone down the redness considerably so its a worthy investment!
Personally, I do think that this serum would work well for most skin types, especially normal-oily skin but if you have severely dehydrated skin, then try the Iunik Beta-Glucan Power Moisture Serum which may fit your needs better or if you have blemish-prone skin, then check out Iunik Tea Tree Relief Serum.
In terms of ingredients, the first ingredient on the list is not water but Black Snail Secretion Filtrate which represents a high concentration, and all their ingredients have a low hazard score of 1 ~ 2 in terms of health, ecotoxicity and/or contamination concerns, according to EWG and Iunik.
Black Snail Secretion Filtrate : Helps skin restore itself and stay supple and smooth. Snail filtrate contains Hyaluronic Acid, Glycoprotein, Proteoglycans and Copper Peptides, all of which fight against premature aging.
5 kinds of black natural foods ( Black Beans, Black Rice, Black Sesame, Kelp and Eggplant ) : Contains black anthocyanins and nutrients for the skin. Their antioxidant content helps skin look and feel youthful.
Centella Asiatica : An ancient healing herb used in many cultures to stimulate skin regeneration and prevent the formation of scars. It soothes sensitive skin with a powerful healing property and helps alleviate traces of freckles and stains for vibrant, flawless skin.
A research study demonstrated that it is effective in improving treatment of small wounds, stimulating collagen and improving photo-aging skin.
Niancinamade and Adenosine : Brightening and wrinkle-improvement benefits. This research study has demonstrated that there are a variety of significant skin appearance improvement effects with topical application of Niancinamade such as reductions in fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmented spots, red blotchiness, and skin sallowness (yellowing). In addition, elasticity (as measured via cutometry) was improved.
Blend of Mistletoe Ferment Extract and Soybean Ferment Extract : The bio-polymers produced through fermentation increases skin hydration, prevents water loss and help repair damaged skin.

Conclusion
To conclude, Iunik Black Snail Restore Serum is a nice serum, considering its price point and ingredient list as well as its lightweight texture which is suitable for Singapore's humid weather.
It soothes irritation and redness, nourishes, hydrates well and plumps up the skin and would be great for those with sensitive and normal-oily skin and also for those who are new to snail mucin serums, however, it may not be rich enough for those with severely dehydrated or dry skin types but you can always top up with a good moisturizer, add in a facial oil or layer an additional serum.
