Goddess Garden Organics Everyday Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 Review
Product Description
Made with plant-based ingredients and natural minerals, Goddess Garden Everyday Natural Sunscreen provides powerful broad-spectrum SPF 30 sun protection. With its sheer, non-greasy application, and a refreshing scent from pure lavender essential oils, this is a sunscreen you’ll want to wear. Since it’s certified organic, reef safe and biodegradable, you’ll also feel good about wearing it!

POWERFUL PROTECTION FOR SENSITIVE SKIN - Broad-spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30 coverage offers gentle yet powerful sun protection in a formula that is water resistant for up to 80 minutes, and lightly scented with calming lavender essential oil.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC MINERAL SUNSCREEN - Our Everyday formula uses non-nano zinc oxide and titanium dioxide for powerful sun protection, free from synthetic chemicals, while certified organic ingredients like coconut and sunflower oils nourish the skin.

HOW MINERAL SUNSCREENS WORK - Unlike chemical sunscreens, mineral/physical sunscreens aren't absorbed into the skin (reducing risk of irritation). The minerals act like tiny mirrors to reflect the sun’s rays off the skin, offering strong protection!

REEF SAFE and CRUELTY-FREE – Our formulas are biodegradable and safe for coral reefs. They are vegan and Leaping Bunny certified cruelty-free, so we mean it when we say we’re safe for people and the planet!

Goddess Garden Tips for Application – Mineral sunscreens can have a slight white tint to them. To reduce whiteness, begin with moisturized skin. Cover one small area of skin at a time. If it’s white, keep rubbing!

I first came across the brand on Iherb and purchased the 28ml travel size, just to gauge if its compatible with my skin type. Containing Titanium Dioxide 6.4% and Zinc Oxide 6.0%, Goddess Garden Organics Everyday Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 is certified organic and reef safe.

Active ingredients in sunscreens come in two forms, mineral and chemical filters. Each uses a different mechanism for protecting skin and maintaining stability in sunlight. The most common sunscreens on the market contain chemical filters. These products typically include a combination of two to six of the following active ingredients: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate. Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. A handful of products combine zinc oxide with chemical filters.

Laboratory studies indicate that some chemical UV filters may mimic hormones, and physicians report sunscreen-related skin allergies, which raises important questions about unintended human health consequences from frequent sunscreen application. The most worrisome is oxybenzone, which was added to nearly 65 percent of the non-mineral sunscreens in EWG’s 2018 sunscreen database. Oxybenzone can cause allergic skin reactions (Rodriguez 2006). In laboratory studies it is a weak estrogen and has potent anti-androgenic effects (Krause 2012, Ghazipura 2017).

In one study, human volunteers applied a lotion with oxybenzone and two other sunscreen ingredients. Researchers reported a minor but statistically significant decrease in testosterone in men, accompanied by a minor increase in inhibin B, another male sex hormone (Janjua 2004). The researchers concluded these differences were normal variations and not attributed to sunscreen exposure, but critics argue that the exposures were too short to be conclusive (Krause 2012).

Given the pervasiveness of oxybenzone exposures, further study is needed to evaluate the association between oxybenzone and hormone disruption in children and adults. With that in mind, EWG recommends that consumers avoid sunscreens with oxybenzone. You may read more about it here.

Goddess Garden Organics Everyday Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 White Cast

As such, there are more and more individuals who prefer mineral sunscreens, containing Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide but unfortunately, most of these mineral sunscreens exhibit an unavoidable white cast which is what happened in Goddess Garden Organics Everyday Natural Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 as well.

The unavoidable white cast requires some time and effort to rub into skin so that it would get absorbed. The texture may appear lightweight but is actually slightly heavy in application and is not really suitable for the face since I appeared significantly fairer due to the white cast. I prefer to use it on the arms and spend some time rubbing them so that the white cast disappear but I simply can't do that vigorous rubbing for the face. It also left a slightly tacky and shiny finishing which I am not a fan of.

That aside, their ingredients are pretty clean and safe, judging from the rating in EWG which mostly ranges from 1 to 2. If you are not too concerned with the white cast, then you may want to get their full retail sized product or perhaps, the travel sized tube for a good trial.
