Review : Lucas Papaw Ointment

Lucas Papaw Ointment Review
Product Description
Lucas Papaw Ointment, made from fermented Australian papaw (papaya) is the best first-aid balm for you and family. With antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, this multiple-purpose healing topical balm is effective for relief of dry skin, abrasions, insect bites, minor burns, scrapes, bruises, chapped lip and more!

Lucas Papaw Ointment has a cult status worldwide and almost every Australian has one in their cupboard so when I was in Australia last year, I purchased a 25g tube. It was much cheaper than getting it in Singapore.

Developed in Brisbane by Dr. Thomas Lucas, a botanist and medical practitioner, who believed that papaw was the finest natural medicine ever discovered, the formula for Lucas Papaw Ointment is still the same since created over 100 years ago.

The ointment is said to have antibacterial and antimicrobial properties and can be used as a local topical application for minor burns and scalds, sunburn, gravel rash, cuts and minor open wounds, nappy rash and chafing, insect bites, splinters and thorns as well as temporary relief of dermatitis and eczema. And according to Trip Advisor, it is voted as the most popular lip balm in Trip Advisor Travellers' Choice Awards in 2014 and 2015.

Lucas Papaw Ointment has an almost similar Vaseline-like texture but is slightly harder in consistency. It is very greasy when you spread it out and I prefer to use it on flaking skin because I have a perpetual issue with drying hands (coarse fingers pads in particular ) whenever I come back from a trip and no amount of hand creams can solve it, until Lucas Papaw Ointment comes along. I will apply it on my feet, including the soles and my hands, wear socks and gloves and go to sleep when I am overseas or back to Singapore, after a trip.

It does not work instantly, but within 3 days, all the issues were gone. Amazing! And I could not be more grateful for this little tube of miracle. If you have been battling with drying skin due to the winter weather, then this tube is definitely for you.

I also used it on coarse fingerpads caused by alcohol-based nail-polish remover ( to remove the stubborn glitters from nail polish ) and it took about 4 days for the flakiness to heal.

You can also check out the testimonial from Skinshare Singapore on how Lucas Papaw Ointment has solved the rashes for her.

Note that there are several variants of paw paw ointments in the market, but with different ingredients. The famous Lucas Papaw Ointment is said to contain pharmaceutical-grade petroleum jelly and gum balsam ( for scent ), while other brands replace petroleum jelly with beeswax and other plant-derived oils.

It is not 100% Papaw Fruit as stated clearly on their website but 39mg/g, which translated to about 4% because its 1000mg in a gram.

Q : Why 39mg/g of fresh fermented papaw?
A : The natural fermentation process we use, which is exclusive to Lucas’ Papaw Remedies, concentrates the powerful enzymes found in papaws. In fact this fermentation process is the secret to the effectiveness of Lucas’ Papaw Ointment and we are the only company to create fresh fermented papaw in Australia. Hundreds of papaws are used to make one batch of concentrate. This fresh fermented concentrate cannot be applied directly to the skin. The concentrate must be distributed within the carrier (petroleum jelly) to achieve the correct concentration for safe and effective application to the skin. It is the same as a pain relief tablet where a small amount of paracetamol (active ingredient) is contained in each tablet (carrier). Papaw is a natural antiseptic and healing product.

The product scored 4.5 from 336 users on Makeupalley where a whopping 90% would repurchase it.
