Product Description
Sephora line of hair masks with targeted benefits to hydrate and repair hair while you sleep. They are designed to be applied to dry hair, acting overnight for better results. Each is targeted to a specific hair concern without weighing hair down. Just apply to hair, cover with the included cap, and wake up to hair that is softer, more flexible, and visibly more beautiful.
Sephora has came up with a line of hair masks for overnight use. There are 4 varieties available.
Coconut Mask: Nourishes and repairs hair fibers.
Shea Mask: Fortifies and helps to prevent breakage and split ends.
Rose Mask: Smooths and prevents frizzing.
Acai Mask: Protects colour and boosts radiance.
I received Sephora Shea Hair Sleeping Mask as part of my Christmas gift from a good friend of mine last year, to which I use it after my newly coloured hair ( roots touch-up only ) recently, in order to keep my tresses in good condition.
Coming from Sephora Collection, the price is not exactly cheap for a 1 time use product but if it works as well as the hair treatment at the salon, then its definitely value for money. Sometimes, its better to have 1 product that solve all your hair worries and concerns than to get many products without seeing any results. Curious to hear how it works for my thick and long tresses?
Thanks to Korean beauty products, there are now all types of sleeping products - from sleeping gel to eye mask and to hair. While I am not someone who likes to apply too many layers of products on the skin before I sleep, I still can't help but to be intrigued by the Hair Sleeping Mask. I meant, imagine, waking up to glossy hair when you wake up, like those in the hair commercials. Won't you want to be one of them? Heh.
Made in Korea, each Sephora Collection Sleeping Mask Pack contains 30ml contents, where you can use it multiple times for those with very short hair, to stretch the dollar.
It comes in a travel-friendly 2 sided package, where the top portion is for the cap and the bottom portion is for the sleeping mask contents. Massage all the 30ml contents onto your hair, concentrating on the ends and then tuck in your hair all the way into the cap before you sleep. I added a towel on top of my pillow, just in case the sleeping mask seeps out from the cap, since I toss and turn often in the night.
There is no mention if the Shea Hair Sleeping Mask should be used on clean hair, although logically, it should be, just like what sleeping mask for the face does. However, I chose to try it on a day when I did not left the house, so my hair is still moderately clean and just apply the mask, without any hair wash that night.
The scent smells nice and the slippery texture makes the hair feel nourished as I massaged it all over the hair. But because it was my first time using an overnight hair mask, I was concerned throughout the night - wondering if it will damage the hair, wondering if the contents will seep out from the cap, wondering if there will be a mess on my pillow. HAHA. The combination of having something on my hair and head kind of disrupted my sleep.
To be honest, the cap stayed on pretty well most of the time, although there were moments when the cap did slip off slightly from the top of my head to the back, probably due to the thick bun of hair at the nape of the neck but some adjustment does the trick.
The cap can also be reused if you wash it. It is not made from those noisy plastic material so that you won't hear crinkling noises as you toss and turn during the night, disrupting your partner's sleep.
Unfortunately, after 6 hours, when I woke up to use the bathroom, I realized my scalp itches and I see the need to wash my hair at 530am. Maybe its just me, but I am used to sleeping with clean hair on my bed so perhaps hair filled with shea butter makes me feel greasy and dirty that I just wanted to wash it off, the moment my scalp itches.
While rinsing out the mask from my hair, I can feel an immediate softness to my hair and the stiffness associated with hair colouring was reduced slightly. After my hair was dried naturally, my hair was soft and silky like after a hair rebonding job. However, when I woke up in the morning, I noticed the hair tangles and kinks that I usually have, were back. Perhaps 5 hours for my thick and long tresses were not enough to do its job well.
Alternatively, you can also use it like a deep conditioner in the day, while you kept yourself busy around the house and then rinse it off after several hours.
In conclusion, it has been a good hair experience and while its not 100% perfect for my hair and scalp but judging from the positive reviews on Sephora, its Shea Hair Sleeping Mask worked pretty well for most people.
You can purchase the product from Amazon or in Sephora.
