Review : My Beauty Diary Rice Peptides Mask

Product Description
My Beauty Diary Intensive Rice-Peptides Mask offers multiple effect in resilience, revitalizes and repairs.
It contains:
•soy isoflavones - revitalizes skin; restores resilience with its firming effect
•arnica gentian - softens and tones skin
•seaweed, bladderwack - moisturizes skin; improves dry appearance and texture of skin.

Its recommended for all skin types, normal skin and especially for aging skin.

This Intensive Rice- Peptides Mask is enriched with Rice- Peptides, which contains Ceramides and vitamin complex to nourish and hydrate skin. it also works to condition skin’s natural mechanism. Blended with soy- peptides, it not only revitalizes and renews skin cells, but also improves skin’s natural defense.

Extracts of Witch Hazel, Arnica and Gentian help soften skin, while Algae extracts helps moisturize dry skin, preventing wrinkles. Skin is rejuvenated.

Well, after all the hype surrounding The Beauty Diary Masks, its finally my turn to review them after trying it out for the past 1.5weeks, with 5 sheets. I bought a box of 10 sheets from Taiwan. Its relatively cheaper to get it there and if you buy more, its even cheaper.

The packaging is very attractive in a girly and sweet manner, however I do feel that the box is abit too big for 10 individually packed masks. Its a waste of resource as there are plenty of space in the box itself. When I was in Taiwan, I have to tear off the lovely packaging and repackaged it, to make it more compact for my over-brimming luggage.

Design on each individually packed sheet mask is identical to what is displayed on the box. Rice Peptides Mask is my first one from this range as my friends raved about the moisturising abilities for this. Being a person who is always in need of hydration masks, I chose this over the rest, to give it a try.

There is a plastic sheet kept inbetween the mask. The texture of the sheet is pretty strong and would not tear easily. Its soaked in just the right amount of essence without the messiness of it dripping all over the face, as you layered it on.
The size of the sheet mask is just right for me, except for the eye area part which was slightly bigger.
The scent of this mask is abit funny though as it reminded of vegetables, but once layered on the face, the scent kind of dissipated which was fine with me.

For what it claims and for the price ( I bought this at less than $1 per piece ), I would say its a value buy. It was able to hydrate my skin, improve the dry appearance and my face appeared rested.
However, I do not see any firming and brightening effects.

With the popularity of this range of maks, beware of fakes out there. Read Skindeco's excellent article on discerning the fakes from the real ones.

Review : Physiogel AI Cream

Product Description
PHYSIOGEL AI Cream is an innovative, hypoallergenic, moisturizing cream formulated to nourish dry skin, and is beneficial in regenerating the skin protective barrier.

- Calms irritated, itchy and dry skin.
- Protects from free radicals.
- Helps the skin's protective barrier.
- Helps relieves Redness in Dry Sensitive Skin

I was prescribed this Physiogel AI Cream as part of my treatment for my eczema 2 years ago, after a trip back from Phuket. Its was my first brush with eczema. Needless to say, I was pretty upset to find my skin red, raw, itchy and scaly. The itchiness was so bad that my constant scratching left it even more vulnerable and worse off.

Back in Singapore, I visited a dermatologist, after a recommendation from a colleague who battled with eczema most of his life. The dermatologist told me that the trigger of my eczema could be a combination of the sea, sun and water and that eczema can only be treated but not cured. I was then prescribed 5 products to follow through. Within a week, I saw an improvement which was a huge relief.

Previously, I had visited a GP near my home but the lotion does not work but instead made it worse to the point that I don't even dare to step out of the house.

Physiogel AI Cream can be found in most pharmacies at a cheaper price and since that eczema flare-up, I always make sure I have a backup at home.

White in colour, Physiogel AI Cream has a very slight scent, largely attributed by its ingredients as it does not smell artificial. The texture is slightly greasy and once applied, there would be a layer of moisturising veil on the skin. Because of that, I prefer to use it on the body than on the face.

It soothed the red, raw and scaly skin and the itchiness subsided. I can see the improvement of my red skin within a day.

Review : Crabtee & Evelyn Nantucket Briar Hand Therapy

Product Description
Now you can enjoy the moisturising benefits of Hand Therapy in the popular Nantucket Briar fragrance. This rich cream, made with natural shea butter helps to soothe, moisturise and condition dry hands.

Crabtee & Evelyn Nantucket Briar Hand Therapy is an award-winning shea butter hand cream leaves your hands feeling incredibly smooth and soft.
  • Award winning shea butter hand cream
  • Soothes
  • Conditions
  • Moisturizes
I love pampering my hands in the air-conditioned office and usually kept one in my bag and on my office desk. I picked this up during last Xmas and is now in my last 3rd tube.

Hearing this, you would have thought that I love this to bits but no, I was just trying to use up all my 3 tubes before giving it a verdict that it truly does not work for me.

This is the worst hand cream I ever used from Crabtree and Evelyn Hand Therapy range.

The scent is pretty unique, considering that its a mixture of a blend of briar roses, bergamot, fresh greens, amber and vanilla. Its bearable but I wouldn't describe it as a scent I like because I was expecting my hand cream to smell even nicer than this.

White in colour, the texture is light, yet is able to leave a light coating of greasy film on the hands once applied. I presume its supposed to be a layer of moisturising veil to keep my hands well-moisturised but sadly, it does not work that way on my hands. In fact, my hands seemed to turn drier after every use.

Key Ingredients :
Shea butter (moisturizing, conditioning), lavender oil (soothing) bisabolol / chamomile (soothing), allantoin (anti-irritant), glycerin (moisturizer), Vitamin E (anti-oxidant)

Crabtree & Evelyn Gardners Hand Therapy is a shea-butter rich formula hand cream which contains shea butter as well as extracts of yarrow, clover and calendula to help soothe and condition work-roughened hands.

Main functions : Soothes, conditions and restores softness
Scent: Fresh green clover, lavender, sage rosemary and thyme.

I bought the 3 in a pack during the last Christmas season together with the lavender pack as well and have been using it after finishing the lavender hand cream ( read my review ).

Compared to the lavender hand cream, its not as light or mild yet its also not that heavy.
It keeps my hands moisturised but only for a short while and I still need to reapply after every 1 hour or so.

As with all Crabtree and Evelyn hand creams, it does not leave any greasy after-feel or prints all over.

Its a best-seller in some websites, coupled with rave reviews.
After reviewing all 4 hand creams, I will say, I prefer either the rose or this hand cream. For now, I will stick to both of these, till I find a better one out there.

Main Ingredients :
glycerin (moisturizing), shea butter (conditioning, emollient), clover (deodorizing), bisabolol from chamomile (soothing)

Review : The Body Shop Neroli Jasmin Shower Gel

I bought this in the travel sized 60ml and started off with not liking the scent. However, as time goes by, I have grown to love the fragrance which can be pretty exotic. Its a mixture of neroli, freesia, violet leaf, orange blossom, jasmine, white peony, sandalwood, vanilla, musk and amber which gave that exotic fragrance scent.

The lathering factor is still within my likeable range, not overwhelming. Quite a joy to use.

How it works: - Community Trade camomile essential oil soothes skin and calms the senses.
- Coconut-oil derived cleansing agent cleans skin and enriches foam and lather.
- Beautiful and luxurious pearlescent look.

Main Ingredient
Organic camomile water : Soothes the skin.

Ingredients :
Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide DEA, Fragrance, Polysorbate 20, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, Coco-Glucoside, Glyceryl Oleate, Citric Acid, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Linalool, Disodium EDTA, Benzyl Salicylate, Citronellol, Hydroxycitronellal, Hexyl Cinnamal, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Extract, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Coumarin, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Lecithin, Tocopherol, Geraniol, Benzyl Alcohol, Limonene, Caramel, Red 4.

Review : Estee Lauder Cyber White EX Extra Intensive Illuminating Mask

Product Description
The Cyber White EX Extra Intensive Illuminating Mask is a targeted, detoxifying treatment with anti-oxidants to help neutralise free radical damage to the skin. Free radical damage can lead to future spots and the product is specifically designed to prevent spots underneath the skin from making an appearance.

This 15ml masque which is part of the Cyber White GWPs received during my purchase quite some time back, is the last remaining product from the GWP which I have yet to review.
I was not using it on a regular basis then, so it would be kinda unfair to review it at that time. Recently I am back to using it on a twice per week basis and love how this masque fared on my skin tone.

White in colour and creamy in texture, I thought it would be quite a mess to spread it on the face but surprisingly, it's not. It's soft and moist and is quite a joy to layer it on the face.
It has the same signature fragrance in the Cyber White range.

What usually irked me about creamy masks, is that it can be difficult to cleanse it off. Its the same with this mask. Basically, I used cotton pads doused with water and cleanse it for the first round, before rinising my face with water directly.

I can see an immediate brightening effect on my skin  though I think it fared not so well on its hydrating capability. The brightening effect is pretty subtle though so I may not be willing to splurge on the full price for this product.

It was a different story when I used it on my arms. Using the last dollop, I applied on my hands, hoping that it can spread the whitening benefits to my hands but it becomes itchy after 5 minutes and I washed it off immediately.

Thereafter, my eczema started. Thankfully, I got my prescribed moisturiser to calm it down.
This product was recommended by the popular Taiwan Beauty magazine "Beauty" and the reader's choice under the whitening/brightening mask category in this year's Her World 2010 Beauty Awards.

Review : Talent White Firming Eye Pad

Made in Taiwan exclusively for Watsons Taiwan, this is one of the many eye masks I picked up from my trip in Taiwan last year. Thats why it took me almost a year to finally use it.

Pardon my poor translation as I am not that good with Chinese. Urgh. Such a disgrace, right?
Here goes :
This eye mask touted with Vitamin C ingredient is said to have whitening properties, improves fine lines and brings radiance to the eyes.

Reading the ingredient list below, I also noticed that it contains Ginseng extract, Aloe Vera, Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid which meant there are hydrating and firming effects. However note that Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid ingredients are right at the bottom of the list which meant that the percentage of those ingredients are not that high in this product.
Nonethethless, its better than not having it, right?

It was individually packed in a box of 5 pairs and each pair is kept in plastic tray with 2 caches on the tray to secure it. The material is sheer and almost transparent so be careful when you remove the masks as I tore it before.
There is a heavy chemical fragrance which I did not quite like.
Its soaked in essence and gives a refreshing and relaxing feel.

During my initial use, I was excited to see that there were slight improvements on my under eye area, my eyes appeared less puffy and my eye bags look less obvious.
However, subsequent usage seems fruitless so there goes my money down the drain again. LOL...

Review : Innisfree Green Tea Pure Essence

Product Description
Awaken your skin with this smooth and light cream. It is deeply moisturizing which restores and refines skin's texture. Powered by an antioxidant green tea blend and moisture complex, it helps counteract the effects of daily environment assaults and dryness.

I received a trial set kit during my Korea trip last year and finally got to use the essence recently. I have used up my regular serum and was in need of another one, when I stumbled upon this in my drawer of beauty products.
5ml size is what I got and I used it up within a week.

Light and watery fresh is how I would describe it. A lovely scent with a hint of refreshing green tea fragrance. Texture is light enough to spread on the face and allowed to be absorbed into the skin easily.

I usually expect good hydration levels in all my products as my skin is usually dehydrated on the surface so I would just say that this product does not meet my moisturising needs. Its probably more suitable for those with normal and oily skin.

Review : Cest Naturel Leave-On Hair Balm

Product Description
A rich conditioner with orange flower oil that calms stressed out hair. Leaves hair soft, glossy and well-moisturised.

Containing orange flower oil to repair brittle and dry hair and vitamin E for its antioxidant properties, its good nutrients for the hair.
There is a very nice fragrance, due to the orange flower oil which lingers on the hair every time its applied. Usually applied on my damp hair after bath, it seems to leave my hair feeling soft. The texture is slightly creamy but light in white.
However, the end result after the hair dries, its not exactly so soft or even glossy which leave me with disappointment.
After using it for the past 4 months on a daily basis, I do not really see or feel a big difference in the moisturising properties.

Despite the natural ingredients in it, I believe I would not get it again.

Ingredients:
Demineralized water (Aqua), Isopropyl Myristate, Isopropyl Palmitate, Stearic Acid, Cetyl Alcohol,
Carbomer 934 (Carbomer), Propylene Glycol, Orange (Citrus Aurantium Dulcis) Flower Oil, Fragrance (Parfum), Cetrimonium Chloride, Methyl Paraben, Propylparaben, Tocopherol (Vit. E). Dead Sea Salt (Maris Sal).

Review : H20 Plus Hydrating Marine Moisture Mask

Product Description
An intense moisture mask infused with marine botanicals to help improve skin moisturization, firmness and elasticity. The unique Sea Mineral Complex™ helps deliver intense moisture to areas that need it most. Red Marine Algae extracts help accelerate skin cell turnover. Combined with sea plankton and sea botanicals of wakame, sea lettuce and sea fennel, these key ingredients help replenish essential moisture, plumping up the skin and reducing fine surface lines.

Features :
- Delivers essential hydration balance while smoothing skin texture Key Ingredients:
- Helps accelerate cell renewal
- Boosts firmness and elasticity
- Softens and hydrates while leaving the skin soft and smooth

This 15ml trial size product was part of a GWP that came with my $150 purchase. Lovely blue in colour, the texture is very soft, almost creamy yet light as a lotion.
It goes on with a stinging effect on the face and gets especially so, if my skin is very dehydrated. Hot and minty, it gave me an almost burning feeling, a sensation which I usually associate with products which are unsuitable for me.
However, thankfully, after each treatment, my face was not hot and flushed but instead feels almost hydrated. I do not feel any firmness though.
Its also pretty difficult to wash it off due to its slimy and glooey texture so cotton pads is my next best friend to removing such masks.

I believe I would not get this again, because of the stinging effect, its just bad for the skin in the long term.

Key Ingredients :
Sea Mineral Complex™, Wakame, Sea Lettuce, Sea Fennel, Red Marine Algae, Plankton Extract, Provitamin B, Lecithin

Review : The Body Shop White Musk® Sumptuous Silk Shower Gel

Product Description
A sumptuously sensual soap-free body cleanser with a silky smooth gel texture that creates a creamy, foamy lather in the shower and leaves skin feeling cleansed, refreshed and subtly scented with the soft and velvety signature White Musk® scent.

Notes of velvety musk, floral lily and iris, sensual ylang ylang and hints of rose - have been blended together to create the soft and velvety signature White Musk® scent.

Musk mallow extract : naturally comforting and softening and leaves the skin feeling hydrated, soft and utterly pampered
Community Trade organic honey : an effective moisturiser that helps to condition the skin.

I bought 2 travel sized bottles of this, 60ml each but I did not really like the fragrance.
Just a small amount will provide lots of lather, leaving the skin a hint of the White Musk fragrance after each use.
Scoring a 4.2 from Makeupalley, its a hit with many ladies.

Because of the fragrance, its not something I would repurchase.

Review on True Bio Skin Daily Defense Cream

Product Description
A nourishing and moisturising cream containing Transomes F.R.S (free radical scavenger) to fight photo ageing and free radical damage from sunlight exposure. Contains natural Dermascreen which absorbs 50% of the sun’s UVA and 85% of the sun’s harmful UVB rays. Protects skin against environmental pollutants such as dirt; prevents blemishes from forming and improves skin tone.

I bought the trial size kit with this defense cream as one of them. The one I had is just a 5ml sample which lasted me for about a week.
There is a slight scent but its hardly noticeable. Texture is almost similar to those mass-market sunscreen brands, whitish in colour.
It leaves no white cast on skin and no greasy feel.

I did not develop any blemishes during the whole usage which is good. However, I do not see any improvement in skin tone, as what is claimed.
Retailing at $250 for 30ml, its extremely expensive. I believe there I can spend this money elsewhere.

Ingredients :
Aloe extracts, Cucumber Extracts, Sesame Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Dermascreen, Transomes FRS, Tio2.

Review : Therapeutic Dermatologic Formula Power C Firming Spritz

Product Description
Alcohol and fragrance-free tonic with hyaluronic acid (from Sodium Hylauronate) and Vitamin C for luxurious skin hydration and anti-oxidant protection. Freshens, hydrates and promotes skin firmness. Leaves the skin feeling soft, supple and pampered. Suitable for all skin types.

I bought this from CGH , being my very first TDF purchase, quite some time back. However, I cannot stand the fragrance which was said to be citrus-scented. Its totally off.
I stopped using it because of the fragrance and only started using it back recently.

I actually stopped breathing when I sprayed it over my face, as part of a toner usage. Skin feels and looks refreshed but as for firming benefits, it may require a longer usage time in order to see it.
Its light orange to yellow colour and the spraying mist is not very fine hence it can be hard to control when trying to spray on my face as it came out in spritz by spritz.
I reviewed it today because I will be returning this product to Ocean Health early next week.

I wrote in to Ocean Health, as part of my concern for this product since I have not been using it for some time. I am concerned about its effectivness being reduced since Vitamin C is one of its ingredients.
A representative named Samantha called me within 1/2 hr after my feedback to its website. I was really impressed by their diligence and customer service.
She was very customer service-oriented and after I shared with her about not using the product after a few months, she was concerned that the product may not be that effective and suggested exchanging it for another product of a lower value.

I was pleasantly surprised and appreciate her gesture and thoughfulness. Hence, that is the reason why I am reviewing this product earlier than planned.
If not for the fragrance, I believe I will continue using this.

Review : Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub

Product Description
A skin polishing scrub with Corn Cob Meal gently removes dulling surface debris that leaves skin with a smooth and healthy complexion. Botanical extracts of Mallow, Ivy and Aloe Vera soothe and help prevent over-stimulation of the skin. Cucumber helps keep skin hydrated and refreshed.

Voted by Instyle as the best facial scrub, it also scored a favourable 4.0 at Makeupalley and 7.9 at Total Beauty

However, contrary to those users, I actually prefer Daily Microfoliant much more than this.
I have sensitive skin so I found the grains to be rough and abrasive against my delicate skin. I can actually felt that I am scrubbing the face like the floor. The colour is almost like the Gentle Cream Exfoliant, light brown in colour. Slightly creamy with granules, I found the particles to be larger than what I would like.

I prefer to use something gentler on my sensitive skin and Daily Microfoliant did a great job in that.
At times, after using Skin Prep Scrub, my face feels almost raw, dry and tight though it did not turn red. My skin desperately needs a hydrating mask after each scrub. Even though skin does feel slightly softer and smoother, but I still felt that Daily Microfoliant did a better job.

Overall, I would think that this product may be more suitable for those with oily skin or those with excess sebum production.
