Main benefits :
- 100% Grey Coverage
- Deeply nourishes the hair
- Subtle and pleasant scent
- Made with natural and organic ingredients

I first purchased this hair dye for my mum but she didn't like it, as the colour dye just doesn't reflect on her hair. Earlier this year, I purchased 2 boxes for my in laws and my father in law liked it as it doesn't cause itch as compared to the regular L'oreal hair dye which he had been using for years.

I have not coloured my hair ( with 20% greys ) for 4 months so it was a good time to try out this hair colour dye but I am an amateur with DIY colouring jobs since I usually do it at the salons. You can check out my previous reviews on Kao Rerise Hair Colour and Cielo Mousse Hair Colour

Packaging, Scent and Texture

Naturigin Organic Based 100% Permanent Hair Colour ( Dark Coffee Brown 3.0 ) was my choice while I chose Ebony 2.3 for my in laws which is of a darker colour than mine, just to be sure that it can colour their full head of greys.

The hair colour dye has a scent but bearable and not choking. There is an instruction sheet to guide you on how to use the hair colouring dye correctly. Each package comes with a tube with colour cream, bottle with activator, sachet with after colour treatment and safety gloves.

How To Use :
1) Mix the Colour cream with the Activator.
2) Apply half of the mixture in the regrowth area and let it sit for 20 minutes.
3) Then, apply the rest of the mixture into the remaining hair.
4) Massage it into the hair and scalp, and leave it for 10 more minutes.
5) Add a small amount of water to the hair to make the mixture foam. Massage hair and scalp and rinse well with lukewarm water.
6) Finally, apply the Colour Lock treatment to your hair and work it into hair and scalp thoroughly. Massage gently for 2 minutes and rinse.

Tip : To support a soft and health result you may apply your regular conditioner immediately after colouring.

Performance and Ingredients

This innovative Danish brand is the winner of Best Natural Product in the USA for 2014 and 2015. Their hair colour dyes are 100% resorcinol free, 100% ammonia free and 100%  Lauryl Sulfate ( SLS ) free.

Naturigin Hair Dye is easy to use, once you understand the instructions. Just mix in the Colour Cream with the Activator, shake it for even-ness, before dispensing it all over the hair, with a focus on the greys.

Since my concern is more on uneven-ness and being unable to cover the greys, my hubby was patient enough to spend about 40 minutes spreading the colour with his gloved hands and then using a comb where necessary.

I waited for another 30minutes before I step into the shower to rinse it off. While massaging in the runny Colour Lock treatment, it accidentally dripped into my eyes and it stung but thankfully I managed to wash out with water. Then while rinsing my hair with water, the contents of the dye + treatment got into my eyes again and stung yet again, urgh!, but nothing water can't fix. Thankfully the stinging effect didn't last for long.

I love the end result - the colour was bright with a glossy sheen, however, it was clumpy and dry during rinsing so I have to add in Eloise Gold Crystal Hair Repair Treatment to make it an easier hair wash. My hair was soft and smooth although I can't confirm its from the dye or the repair treatment.

That said, I think Dark Coffee Brown 3.0 may not be the best colour to cover my 20% greys as it has a tinge of red under the sun and with my hubby's amateur skills together with my long and thick hair, only 85% of the greys were covered but its not too bad. A darker colour should be able to cover the greys more effectively.

Do note that the box I purchased looked slightly different than those shown online, where parabens-free was not quoted. I have also included a picture of the ingredients on my box so that you can do a comparison with yours.

In terms of ingredients, some of the most common and toxic ingredients used in hair dyes are;

ammonia,
peroxide,
p-phenylenediamine,
diaminobenzene,
toluene-2,5-diamine,
resorcinol

...and Naturigin Hair Colour ( Dark Coffee Brown ) contains 3 of them namely, peroxide,p-phenylenediamine and toluene-2,5-diamine where peroxide,p-phenylenediamine is said to have the lowest level in the international market as compared to other dyes.

Other beneficial ingredients are....

Apricot Oil : Prunus Armeniaca kernel oil is extracted from the kernels of the apricot. It consists primarily of glycerides from fatty acids, and is suitable for hair and body care products, as it is a mild and moisturizing oil which is easily absorbed in hair and skin.

Grape Seed Oil : Grape Seed Oil is also known as Vitis Vinifera seed oil. It consists, primarily, of glycerides and fatty acids obtained by pressing grape seeds. Grape seed oil is used as a growth and strengthening treatment for the hair. Also, it protects against damage and provides nourishment to all types of hair and skin.

Grapefruit Oil : Citrus Grandis oil is obtained from the peel of the grapefruit. It provides a fresh and rejuvenated feeling on the scalp and hair.

Lemon Oil : Citrus Medica Limonum oil is obtained from the fresh peel of the fruit. It’s a light oil, why it’s easily absorbed into the hair and skin. Lemon oil stimulates hair growth and slows hair loss. Also, it helps to cleanse the scalp and balances oil on both hair and skin.

Mandarin Oil : Citrus Nobilis oil is extracted from the peel of the mandarin. It has strengthening, softening and toning effects that leaves your hair healthy and with a delicious scent.

Peach Oil : Prunus Persica kernel oil is extracted from the kernels of the peach. It consists primarily of glycerides from fatty acids. Peach oil is used to improve scalp and hair condition and to nourish your skin.

Soybean : Hydrolysed Soy Protein is a substance obtained from the soybean. It is a good source of proteins, B and E vitamins, and minerals which is suitable for all scalp and hair types, and leaves the hair soft and shiny.

Wheat : Triticum Vulgare bran extract is extracted from the bran of the wheat. It creates a moisture barrier in your hair in order to protect it from heat damage, for instance due to styling with blow dryers, irons, curling wand and other hot styling tools.

Conclusion

To conclude, Naturigin Organic Based 100% Permanent Hair Colour  ( Dark Coffee Brown 3.0 ) is easy to use and apply, with a lovely colour however, because of our beginner skills, it only manage to cover just 85% of my greys. It was slightly clumpy and drying during rinsing so a conditioner is necessary for my hair type.

Because the colour wasn't as dark as my usual ones, done at salons, the contrast of the new greys with my black hair wasn't too obvious so I can safely say, my greys only started to be obvious on the 6th week.
