InstaNatural Pro-Radiant Skin Brightening Serum comes in a dropper glass bottle and dispenses just enough amount for my face. Orange in colour, it has a light citrus scent and has a runny texture which gets absorbed into skin pretty fast. I prefer to use on damp skin as I noticed that it dries up super fast if used on dry skin which does not provide me ample time to massage on skin.
The serum is slightly drying so a good moisturiser is key to getting the effects that I need. I have tried pairing it with several different products and noticed that if I use the serum after applying Caudalie Moisturizing Toner and before Naruko Magnolia Brightening and Firming Lotion yields the best result for my skin, making it soft, smooth and supple.
Ever since incorporating InstaNatural Pro-Radiant Skin Brightening Serum into my skincare regime and using it once a day ( mainly at night ) for the past 6 months ( to use up the product ), my skin looked clearer, healthier and more even-toned. The slight pigmentation spots on my cheeks also looked less obvious. For such a great product, it is considered reasonably priced.
SHOULD I APPLY VITAMIN C SERUM DAY OR NIGHT?
Some dermatologists would recommend applying Vitamin C serum in the day as it helps to shield your skin from free radicals and can help to boost the protection offered by your sunscreen, although there's growing evidence that applying at night helps too, since free radical damage also continue to affect your skin overnight. However, if you have sensitive skin, you might want to steer clear of vitamin C serum during the day as higher concentrations of vitamin C could make sensitive skin more prone to irritation and sunburn. If your skin tends to be reactive to products that contain retinol and similar ingredients, do use your vitamin C serum as a PM-only product. ( source )
While there are others who recommend that all skin types use their vitamin C serum before bed as that is when the body undergoes its natural repair process while asleep, and the vitamin C will make its strongest impact on your skin during this time. It’ll also absorb into your skin most effectively after you’ve cleansed and exfoliated, so it makes sense to apply it during your nighttime routine. When you use your vitamin C serum during the night, you’ll also avoid the risk of photosensitivity, which can occur in some cases with daytime use.
As a personal preference, I prefer to use hydrating products in the day, to combat the air-conditioning environment and nourishing products like Vitamin C in the night while I sleep.
Pairing the serum after Toner :
Laniege Fresh Calming Toner : I use serum after toner but my skin would be itchy. Allowing some absorption time between both products solved the problem.
Caudalie Moisturizing Toner : Perfect pairing as the toner is moisturising enough.
Pixi Glow Tonic Exfoliating Toner : Perfect combination, giving rise to beautiful skin with super smooth texture but this combination is not suitable for sensitive skin as there are exfoliating properties for both products.
Active ingredients in skincare have different purposes and using them at the same time as vitamin C in high concentrations may result in irritation. It's best to avoid retinol, glycolic, salicylic and lactic acid when using vitamin C or to gradually implement these actives to produce less visible skin irritation.
Pairing the serum before Moisturiser :
Biotherm Life Plankton Mask : I use the serum prior to the overnight mask but skin is parched and dry due to insufficient moisture. This is expected since the overnight mask cannot replace a good moisturiser.
Dr. Botanicals Parsley Age Refresh Day Moisturiser : I use the serum prior to the day moisturiser but the texture of the moisturiser is too thick resulting in a not-so-pleasant experience.
Naruko Magnolia Brightening and Firming Lotion : Perfect pairing on hydrated and optimal skin condition. May need an emollient moisturiser if my skin is not at its optimal condition.

The key ingredient, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is a stable, water-soluble form of vitamin C that functions as an antioxidant and is potentially effective for brightening an uneven skin tone. It is significantly more stable than Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate and Ascorbyl Palmitate, due to the introduction of a phosphate group into the second position of the cyclic ring. ( source )
As a potent antioxidant, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate can help improve acne conditions by combating oxiddation of sebum and comedogenesis. There is research showing amounts of 1% and 5% concentrations of Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate can influence factors linked to breakouts. Thus, this form of vitamin C may be an effective adjunct to anti-acne products that contain benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. ( source )
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is also an oxygen species scavenger, protecting against UV damaging and enhancing properties of sunscreen. Photodamage such as sunburn cell formation, DNA fragmentation and lipid peroxidation can be prevented. The protective effect of Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate comes from the maintenance of a healthy ascorbic acid level in the skin tissue, hence it is a good ingredient to fight against aging.

In terms of ingredients, do note that the product name has changed to InstaNatural Skin Brightening Serum and the ingredient list has differed slightly such as " potassium cetyl phosphate, tocopherol*, leuconostoc/radish root ferment filtrate, limonene*, linalool " were added to the new formulation, which is a mixture of surfactant, vitamin E, preservative and scent.
