Naruko magnolia brightening and firming EX series is designed for dry skin and is an all-in-one anti-aging skin cream that prevents aging, firms, brightens, moisturizes, and provides antioxidants. Formulated with anti-glycation anti-wrinkle ingredients and antioxidants, magnolia EX series is a highly effective, comprehensive anti-aging moisturizing cream that nurtures the skin and increases its metabolism rate. Said to be a 24-hour, non-stop brightening and anti-aging reacting product, Naruko Taiwan Magnolia Brightening and Firming Lotion EX also boasts skin's day defense with an ultra-firming and deep moisturizing formula while reducing skin dullness, pigmentation, and aging problems.
A little goes a long way and the 120ml bottle lasted me for several months. It comes in an opaque plastic bottle with a pump dispenser. 1 pump is enough for my face and the greyish-white lotion texture has a lightweight and emollient consistency. The light floral scent is still bearable for me, it is strong only when you put your nose to it. What I didn't like is the text printed in white against a beige background which is the colour of the bottle which makes reading the instructions and ingredients pretty annoying.
Initially, I didn't really like Naruko Taiwan Magnolia Brightening and Firming Lotion EX as it wasn't as hydrating as I prefer it to be, but knowing that its being touted as a brightening and firming lotion and its a lotion and not a full-fledged moisturiser, makes the performance more relatable.
During the usage period, with the addition of more hydrating serums and toners, Naruko Taiwan Magnolia Brightening and Firming Lotion EX has become a winner in my heart as it pairs well with most products without the stickiness or heaviness from layering several products on top of it.
Here are my tried-and-tested combinations :
1) Pixi Glow Tonic + InstaNatural Pro Radiant Skin Brightening Vitamin C Serum + Naruko Taiwan Magnolia Brightening and Firming Lotion EX
I was surprised that my skin did not peel from using both Glycolic Acid and Vitamin C together with the Magnolia Lotion and instead, the combination of all products gave rise to slightly brighter, super smooth and supple skin. However, do note that such combination is not recommended for those with sensitive skin and its also been said that acidic ingredients like Glycolic or Salicylic Acid when used with Vitamin C can alter its pH which can reduce the effectiveness of your Vitamin C so it is recommended to use each on its own, in order to derive the best results.
2) Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner + InstaNatural Pro Radiant Skin Brightening Vitamin C Serum + Naruko Taiwan Magnolia Brightening and Firming Lotion EX
Yet another perfect combination as my skin is unbelievably soft, smooth and supple with a dewy glow.
3) Cosrx Centella Alcohol-Free Toner + The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% +B5 + Naruko Taiwan Magnolia Brightening and Firming Lotion EX
My skin is well hydrated with this set of hydrating products. No flakiness ever.
In terms of ingredients, Niacinamide is high up in the list which has brightening and anti-aging benefits. According to this research study, Niacinamide has shown to be able to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmented spots, red blotchiness, and skin sallowness (yellowing). In addition, elasticity (as measured via cutometry) was improved.
Other brightening ingredients include Tranexamic Acid, Ellagic Acid, Ascorbic Acid and Arbutin mixed with other firming and moisturizing components. Full ingredients listed on CosDNA.
To sum it up, Naruko Taiwan Magnolia Brightening and Firming Lotion EX is a great lightweight and brightening moisturiser for summer and pairs well with most products. It may not be sufficient for winter and cold weathers or those requiring very moisturizing products though.
That said, I did not experience any firming effect on my chubby cheeks but I do see a subtle glow to skin, depending on the products I paired with.
