Their core value :
Drunk Elephant is committed to using only ingredients that either directly benefit the skin’s health or support the integrity and effectiveness of our formulations. We never take into account an ingredient’s synthetic or natural status, but instead choose based on biocompatibility. You won’t find what we call the “Suspicious 6” in our products (Essential Oils, Drying Alcohols, Silicones, Chemical Screens, Fragrance/Dyes and SLS,) making them, in our opinion, appropriate for all skin. We believe that these six ubiquitous ingredients are at the root of almost every skin issue we see. When formulating the products, we focus on pH levels and safety, and always making sure that the active ingredients are at efficacious levels.

Review of Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser

Made in USA, Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser is free from essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical screens, fragrance/dyes and SLS. It is also cruelty-free, gluten-free and vegan.

Looking at their packaging, it is almost difficult not to take notice of them as the colours are so bright and luminous. Check out the range of products here.

The 150ml sized jelly cleanser comes in a white squeeze tube with a bright orange cap where the gelatinous gel contents are dispensed easily through a small hole. While I am used to using Micelle Solution as a make-up remover, I am also curious to see how the Jelly Cleanser fare as it is said to be able to remove all traces of make-up.

Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser can be used as a cleanser or make-up remover or as both and I prefer the latter after experiencing its effectiveness. I save time on just using 1 cleanser to remove both make-up and grime on face. Note that I am a double cleansing fan.

Before massage
After massage

The jelly cleanser started off as a clear gel but turned slightly milky after some light massaging on face to remove make-up and grime. As a cleanser, it cleanses well but as a personal preference, I prefer nourishing and gentle cleansers. While the jelly cleanser did not cause any redness or tightness, but I can feel that my palms were slightly drying after every cleansing session.

As a make-up remover cum cleanser, the jelly cleanser was certainly impressive. I have always been doing double-cleansing until I tried Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser. It really cleanses all my light make-up, including the eye make-up effortlessly, without any tightness or residue, although it was not as hydrating as I prefer. I use a toner to check for any remnants and there were none. It is so effective that every time I use the Jelly Cleanser, I only do a single cleanse and thats it. There is no need for double cleansing at all. I used it on both damp and dry skin and it worked well both ways. Note that, I have not tried it on heavy make-up or on mascara.

Depending on my skin's condition, there were times that my skin is slightly taut, after cleansing. And there were times that I may not have cleanse properly near the eyes, leaving very slight eyeliner remnants where a cotton bud can clear it up easily. It also hurts slightly if the jelly cleanser gets into the eyes although my eyes did not tear, get red or itchy and the pain clears up within 5 minutes.

In terms of ingredients, do note that there are some slight differences to the list published on most sites. The overall ingredients remained largely the same but the concentration of each ingredient may have differed slightly. According to Skinx, the cleanser has went through a reformulation before.

Incidecoder has done a detailed breakdown of each ingredient here where it consists mainly unique blend of mild surfactants and makeup dissolving emollients.

I would recommend Drunk Elephant Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser for those
- who has combination-oily or oily skin
- who prefer single cleansing
- who uses light make-up
- who are Drunk Elephant fans
