Review : Dr. Botanicals 100% Natural Ultra Concentrated Hydration Mask

Review for Dr. Botanicals 100% Natural Ultra Concentrated Hydration Mask
Product Description
Our 100% Natural Ultra Concentrated Hydration Mask is a 10-minute transformational hydration treatment that will nourish and restore your skin’s complexion. We believe oils and plant extracts can make a genuine difference to skin. Never tested on animals, this range embodies our belief in the potent power of botanicals.

The main active ingredients in the formulation are:

1. Crambe Oil reinforces and smoothens the skin’s surface making skin look youthful and refreshed. The oil is high in omega-9 essential fatty acids that deeply nourish and hydrate the skin.
2. Grape seed oil is rich in antioxidants, fatty acids, and C, E, and D vitamins that work to hydrate and nourish skin.
3. Coconut oil is high in antioxidants and fatty acids that work to hydrate, restore and protect the skin.

I chanced upon Dr. Botanicals online, which is 100% natural, 100% vegan and cruelty-free, just when my hydration masks were running low in stock several months ago.

Made in the UK, the 50ml tub mask was reasonably priced and so, it went into my shopping cart and I received it about 2~ 3 weeks later. Their products have a minimalist apothecary feel although the yellow box which it came in, seem to be out of place with that vibe.

Dr. Botanicals 100% Natural Ultra Concentrated Hydration Mask Appearance

The white creamy mask is contained in a brown glass jar which may have 2 potential problems - oxidation of ingredients and bacterial contamination.

Jars tend to encourage oxidation due to exposing the formula to air and light with every opening, resulting in less than desirable potency of active ingredients such as vitamin C, retinol, green tea, sunflower oil, safflower oil, soybean oil, rosehip oil, grapeseed oil and sesame oil. Ideally, products with such active ingredients should come in protective dark bottles with airless pumps.

Sticking your fingers into jars can bring bacterial contamination which can be a trigger for acne, irritation and infection. Those who are prone to atopic dermatitis/eczema should be careful too. A spatula is recommended for usage with jars.

That said, not all jar packaging for skincare is bad, so long it has stable ingredients and preservative system and no finger dipping into jars.

Dr. Botanicals 100% Natural Ultra Concentrated Hydration Mask, being a 100% natural product and containing grapeseed oil runs the risk of ingredient oxidation so its best to use up the product as soon as one can.

This is my first foray into the brand but unfortunately, I am not too impressed with its performance. It is mild and gentle and effects are not pronounced. My skin tends to flake 2 days after a facial and when I tried using Dr. Botanicals 100% Natural Ultra Concentrated Hydration Mask, it did not make a difference to the peeling flakes. There is a light stinging effect on skin at times. You need to use it daily to see a subtle effect and hence its not recommended for those with severely dehydrated issues.

I do like the texture of the mask though. It is creamy and glides on skin comfortably well. Washing requires more water than normal though, due to the emollient and slippery texture.
