Review : My Scheming Pearl Whitening Mask
Thursday, August 28, 2014
Product Description
This mask is for dry and limp skin to enhance skin vitality, moisture and elasticity. Pearl protein can be absorbed efficiently by our skin. Also it has superior effect on reserving moisture in your skin. Pearl protein can help reserve the nutrients and moisture in the mask, and give you a smooth and silky skin.
A dear friend bought a sheet for me to try it out. Thin material that has a close cutting that fits my face shape with a heavy scent that is overpowering. There is a minty and cooling sensation once you layered it on the skin which slowly gets better.
While my skin feels softer and smoother but I failed to see any whitening effect.

Tangs + Watsons haul
Monday, August 25, 2014
Its my birthday month so I took the chance to utilize the 10% Tangs birthday beauty discount and 5x points in Watsons.
After trying the trial set from Sulwhasoo, I decided to get the full size. It was my first full experience with Sulwhasoo staff. My last experience at Tangs Orchard wasn't that pleasant because the staff replied me with a condescending attitude. This time round, I visited Vivocity Tangs because at the same time, you get to top up points which you can use to offset your carpark charges.
She was very practical, promising samples and explaining the product usage but once I told her I want to consider first ( as I was also checking out Robinsons Orchard Sulwhasoo promotion in my email ), she didn't even initiate to pass me any samples. Is that how a brand promote their products to new customers?
Despite what Urban wrote how easy it is to get skincare samples in Singapore, I don't find it to be 100% true. Some promoters can't even be bothered. They just pass you samples to get rid of you ( without even bothering to explain how the products work ) as if you are there to get free products which I can't deny that some people really are.
Once I decided to get Sulwhasoo products, she was very generous with the samples ( kept in a pretty drawstring sachet ), even providing her mobile number, saying she will text me for any upcoming promotion. I guess it has been awhile since I shop for skincare products in departmental stores so I wasn't expecting such personalized service. I guess they have to do it, to stay ahead.
Well, after I reached home and read their membership benefits, I realize that there is a limited edition gift given during the birthday month so I text her about it. She wasn't even apologetic about it and still say I can go down any time to collect it. I meant, Hello! why can't you do it while I was there? I have to make an additional trip down? Haiz.
Sulwhasoo Essential Balancing Line $61.20 ( original $68, you can get it at Changi DFS for $57 )
Sulwhasoo Essential Balancing Emulsion $70.20 ( original $78 )
Samples : Snowise Ex Cleansing Foam, Gentle Cleansing Foam, Snowise Ex White Ginseng Exfoliating Gel, Overnight Vitalizing Mask, Trufresh Soothing Mask, First Care Activating Serum, Concentrating Ginseng Renewing Cream, Concentrating Ginseng Renewing Essential Oil, Snowise Ex Whitening Serum, Luminature Essential Finisher
The lady at the Benefit counter replied to me in Mandarin ( when I initiate the conversation in English ) without smiles and hardly bothered to explain the products to me. I realized she has forgotten to pass me a $5 voucher as part of the Tangs birthday privilege too. Good riddance! That's why I rather shop online nowadays.
Samples : Benefit Peat Miracle Eye Cream, Peat Miracle Revital Cream, Peat Miracle Revital Serum Concentrate
Ioma, the new brand in Singapore for less than a year. Immaculate service, in terms of attitude and beauty knowledge. Artemis and her colleague welcomed me with a smile when I reached their counter and upon seeing me with the birthday letter, she seemed to be very happy sharing with me about Ioma products and her skincare knowledge is indeed impressive. I know most of the things she shared with me, but to have it coming from a promoter, I am indeed impressed, because most of them just look upon it as a job in selling and not helping a customer with her skincare concerns. I learnt something new from her while spending an hour having my skin analyzed and hearing the products she is trying to recommend to me. Strangely, the brand doesn't have samples of their bestsellers, so the samples I received are not in the range of the recommended products based on the machine analysis. I really enjoy interacting with her as she seemed to be full of zest for her job and you get to learn some skincare tips from her because she used to be a beauty consultant and therapist.
Ioma Benefical Mask $75 ( original $90 which has been offset with 10% discount and Tangs points )

Review : Fancl Whitening Mask
Sunday, August 24, 2014
Product Description
FANCL Whitening Mask is an intensive brightening treatment mask which contains Vitamin C, Grapefruit Extract, Olive Leaf Extract, White A.C., Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen, Cotton Seed, Royal Jelly, Rice Extract and Marshmallow for whitening, improving dull skin tone, hydrating and smoothing rough skin texture. It penetrates into the skin to suppress the accumulation of melanin to prevent dark spots and freckles, while maintaining and restoring skin's natural moisture for healthy complexion. Grapefruit Extract known to deliver more Vitamin C into skin, Olive Leaf Extract helps the brightening powder last longer and it soothes damaged skin that caused by UVA/UVB and prevents sun spots.
Free of preservatives, sterilizers, petroleum surfactants, fragrances and mineral oil, the box of 6 individually-packed facial sheets contains 18ml contents which is equivalent to 1 bottle of whitening essence. The facial sheet mask is specially designed with excellent wrapping effect on skin to work intensively to prevent dark melanin and lightens spots and freckles.
Thin and sturdy, the whitening essence-soaked mask adheres well to the skin. The pair of eye flaps is a lovely bonus to pamper the eyes. Alcohol-free, I hardly detect any scent and the mask makes my skin smooth and supple with an immediate brightening effect. However, the whitening effect doesn't last long which is expected for masks.

Review : Biotherm Biosource Clarifying Cleansing Milk
Wednesday, August 20, 2014
Product Description
Enriched with trace elements and essential mineral salts, clarifying cleansing milk perfectly cleanses and respects skin.
I was shopping at Sephora and decided to add this into my cart just to top up the purchases to get some Biotherm free gifts. It has been a while since I use Biotherm products because the prices of their moisturisers keep increasing while the rest of the products are just medicore.
Dispensed through the tiny gap from the flip-top opening, the cleansing milk oozes out easily. It has the typical heavy fragrance associated with Biotherm products. I usually use this as a cleanser in the evening after removing my make-up. It cleanses well and left a moisturizing veil on the skin.
Ingredients :
Water, Butylene Glycol, Isononyl Isononanoate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Carbomer, Cetyl Alcohol, PPG-2 Hydroxyethyl Cocamide, PEG-100 Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate, Methylparaben, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Fragrance, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA, Vitreoscilla Ferment, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Chloride, Benzyl Salicylate, Linalool, Magnesium Gluconate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Potassium Chloride, Zinc Gluconate, Copper Gluconate, Blue 1, Yellow 5, Manganese Gluconate

Housed in an open-flick cap, the one on the shampoo bottle malfunctioned when I received it. It can't even be opened while the one on the conditioner bottle is just too narrow and tiny for the contents to be dispensed properly. Even when I open the cap, the thick conditioner just doesn't ooze out but I have to shake the bottle hard which made it a messy affair.
Both products are sulfate and paraben-free and has a refreshing mint and eucalyptus scent. Containing 16+ natural plant extracts, 10+ amino acids and a 5.25pH level said to make the hair thicker and stronger with better hair growth and healthier scalp, the shampoo has a thick lotion-like consistency and lathers well. It left my hair clean and soft.
The conditioner contains 16+ natural plant extracts, 10+ amino acids with a 4.75pH level said to stimulate the scalp to encourage microcirculation while helping to thicken the hair shaft and expand the hair bulb. Thick and creamy with a bubblegum scent, the conditioner makes my hair pretty soft.
However, instead of making the hair stronger and healthier, I notice that my hair strands dropped easily, during styling.

Review : REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask
Saturday, August 16, 2014
Product Description
A potent bio active peel mask designed to renew the complexion, reduce the appearance of fine lines and dramatically improve skin tone.
Results:
- Removes dead skin cells to renew the complexion.
- Skin looks brighter, healthier, more radiant.
- Helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
- Combats congestion, blackheads and blemishes.
This product was on my "to-try" list for awhile and I managed to snag a complimentary sample during one of my Lovelula purchases sometime back. At times like this, am I so glad that I did not sink in my money to get the full size because it costs $85 in Tangs Singapore and it just does not suit sensitive skin. Period.
Recently I have been looking for radiance-boosting products because despite my diligent exfoliation and masking, I still find my skin looking pretty dull even though I have colleagues liking my skin. Mostly, ladies tend to use make-up to get that radiant look, with shimmers, illuminators, highlighters, etc. But in my blog, I mainly look for good skincare that serve my needs because I really believe that when you have good skin, anything else is secondary. Its a tough search for that "lit-within" look.
This renewal mask has been making waves because it is just supposed to be that good. It transformed skin and supposingly made them look brighter, clearer and glowing. Unfortunately, not for me. And if you have sensitive skin, I urge you not to try, and especially not on freshly exfoliated skin. This mask feels and acts like a face peel but if you are actually fine with the stinging that comes with it and probably is expected, then go ahead to try it.
Formulated without parabens, sulfates synthetic dyes, petrochemicals and phtalates, this radiance renewal mask is said to clarify the skin's appearance with its 4 fruit acid complex - lactic, glycolic, tartaric and citric and papain enzyme helps to create a gentle yet potent exfoliating action that leaves skin glowing and healthy.
With a gel sticky-like texture and a fresh citrus scent, this product feels like a mask when you apply on your face but if you massage it slowly, you can feel slight little beads that feels like exfoliation on the skin. It feels stickier as you left it on the skin and requires slightly more effort to rinse it off or perhaps easier if you use a muslin cloth. The mask left my skin feeling slightly red on the first usage and stings slightly and feels itchy on my third usage. Needless to say, it stings on freshly exfoliated skin.
It depends largely on my skin condition - whether it made my skin turn red, made it itchy or stings. But on most days, it stings. For some people, it is expected to sting since it is, in certain ways, acts like an AHA peel. My skin feels slightly softer after each treatment but not the type of glowing condition that I am expecting. But the cons of using the mask is off-putting and not something I would subject my skin to. I am currently using it as a hand mask instead.
In terms of ingredients, you may want to know that it contains several fragrant irritants from the bergamot water base to several irritating citrus oils, highlighted by Paula.
The product scored 4.1 from 166 users on Makeupalley.

Review : Balm Balm Little Miracle Rosehip Serum
Thursday, August 14, 2014
Product Description
Made from such luxuriously fine carrier oils, so similar to our own skins make up that they are miraculously absorbed, leaving no oiliness whatsoever.
This beautifully rich blend of rosehip, jojoba and borage oils, generously infused with frankincense, rose geranium, palmarosa, juniper and mandarin essential oils will literally feed your skin, allowing it to breathe and feel totally rejuvenated
Balm Balm is said to be UK’s leading 100% organic skincare company and has picked up numerous awards for their products.
This 10ml ( I have 2 bottles which meant 20ml in total ) 100% natural serum which is also 100% Soil Association Certified organic, is part of my Balm Balm set purchased from Lovelula. While I used to be adverse to applying oils on my skin, I am now more open to using them.
Despite consisting of many type of oils, I hardly detect any scent but the texture is more greasy than I would like, so it is best to apply with a light hand. And because the bottle which it came with, has quite a wide opening, I tend to pour out more than necessary, without meaning to.
Personally, for my skin type, the serum works better when it is paired with the Witch Hazel toner, or used alone at night. It is too heavy for day use and takes time to sink into my skin.
Initially, my skin gets itchy when it is used after Marie Veronique Organics Treatment Mist. And when it is used before Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet, my skin turns itchy, starts to get red spots on my cheeks and forehead and "pills" ( read : tiny balls of flakes ). Applied on its own, my skin does get itchy occasionally.
Rosehip Oil, sometimes also known as Oil of Youth due to the high levels of the fatty acids ( linoleic and linolenic ) is known for its anti-aging properties. It helps to reduce the signs of ageing, especially the fine lines around the eyes (crows feet) and lines around the mouth, the drying effects of the sun and climate, as well as assisting with attenuating both accidental and surgical scars. It is also helpful in healing burns, scars and stretch marks.
It is also a good source of vitamin C, which is essential in the formation and synthesis of collagen in the skin, without which your skin would not only age prematurely, but will have terrible tone and the elasticity and suppleness would also be impaired.
However, I have read somewhere that rosehip oil is mildly phototoxic ( or photosensitive ), so it is recommended to be used during the night as it may cause dermatitis, pigmentation and even skin cancer.
Applying after the Witch Hazel toner followed by the Rosehip serum makes my skin looks beautiful and dewy-looking but I still experience flakiness on my nostrils occassionally. Skin looks plump, feels very smooth and supple and it lasts well for several days. This works only on optimal skin condition or when my skin is sufficiently hydrated for the rosehip serum to do its magic.

On poor skin condition or dehydrated skin, the rosehip serum fails to perform any miracles as I hope it will. Occasionally, I get whiteheads on my chin area which meant that the rosehip oil is too rich.

Review : Balm Balm Witch Hazel Toner
Tuesday, August 12, 2014
Product Description
Made from witch hazel distillate, vegetable glycerine and a splash of cleansing grain alcohol.
A gentle yet effective way to help minimize enlarged pores, soothe inflamed skin and combat oiliness, leaving your skin feeling fresh and toned
I purchased the Balm Balm Mini Organic Facial Kit from Lovelula which was a great way for me as a first time user, to try out their popular products.
Unlike what the description says, there is no cleanser in my kit, but 2 rosehip serums instead.
The kit comprises of Witch Hazel Toner 15ml, Rosehip Serum 10ml, Hibiscus Face Mask 4g and Organic Muslim Cloth.
Balm Balm, hailing from UK is said to be 100% organic and is free from parabens, SLS's and preservatives. All Balm Balm ingredients are certified Organic by The Soil Association and they use only responsible eco packaging.
Inspired by a traditional Native American remedy that soothes and refreshes the skin, this product uses a short ingredient list with Witch Hazel as the key ingredient that is known as a traditional remedy rashes, insect bites, bruises, minor cuts and all manner of skin irritations. This remarkable natural astringent has also been proven to refresh the skin and lock in moisture.
I don't really fancy using Witch Hazel because it is usually recommended for oily skin and in the ingredient list, it comprises of alcohol as its 3rd ingredient which is an absolute no-no for me. While I don't have adverse effects in using this toner but the alcohol scent is pretty strong and with long term usage, I believe it may be too drying for my skin. I like that it has a short ingredient list though.

Review : HABA 2 Way Gel
Product Description
Gel mask that naturally heats to clean clogged pores and remove dead skin cells. Leaves your skin feeling smooth and moisturized
I received 2 sachets at 10g each, during my last HABA purchase, which has provided me several times of usages. To be used on dry skin, this gel textured heat mask helps to open pores and remove clogged dirt.
I have been diligent of late, using it weekly, rotating between Skin Food Black Sesame Hot Mask and Laneige White Plus Purifying Mask when it comes to deep cleansing. I have the full retail sizes for both Skin Food and Laneige Masks and it took me a while to complete using them. Usually after a hot mask or any mask with deep cleansing properties, I will follow up with a nourishing or hydrating mask for the mask to seal in the goodness since my skin has been "purged". My efforts have paid off, because despite not being to my facial salon for the last 7 months, I have been told by my beautician that my skin is much better and less clogged.
The gel texture feels and looks like a glop and reminds me of HABA Collagen and Moisture White Pack which is terrible to use and rinse off. Once it gets in touch with your skin, the gel starts to heat up and provides a comfortable warming sensation on the skin, without feeling uncomfortable.
There is no drying after-feel and the gel is easy to be rinse off. And soft and smooth baby skin is what you get in the end!
The pores on my nose looks much cleaner and lasts up to 2 days. A mild and effective exfoliator and massage mask!
Priced at $39 for a 120g size, it can also be purchased online on their official site.
The product scored 3.9 from 9 users on Makeupalley.

Review : Fancl Moisturizing Mask
Sunday, August 10, 2014
Product Description
Replenishes moisture and injects nutrients to improve skin radiance and translucency.
I bought 2 boxes of the moisturizing mask during its closing down sale, because it was such a steal. Prior to that, I was reluctant to shell out $64 for 6 sheets of masks.
Individually packed, each sheet is made up of a microfiber-like material that is thin yet sturdy. The cutting is good as it fits and adheres well to Asian faces, with additional eye flaps that serves as a good bonus treat to relax the eyes. Decently saturated in essence, the mask provides a good hydrating boost to the skin, making my skin feels soothed, soft and bouncy.
However, sad to say, the effects hardly last till the following morning as my skin returns to its rough dehydrated state.

Review : The Body Shop White Musk Moisturising Hand & Nail Cream
Wednesday, August 6, 2014
Product Description
A light, sink-in sensual cream with a smooth-as-satin texture that glides over your skin, leaving it feeling velvety-soft to touch and subtly scented with the soft and velvety signature White Musk® scent.
This 100ml sized tube of hand cream has lasts me well for 5 months for daily usage in the office. Housed in a lovely white tube that has a pearly sheen, the flip-top cap dispenser makes it a breeze to dispense the cream. However, the residue or the leftovers tend to pool around the cap though
there is no problem in closing it.
With a distinct lovely-scented white musk scent, the white lightweight creamy texture sinks into skin and disappears, leaving a slight layer of moisturising film that moisturises for a short while.
It is non-greasy and non-sticky and gets absorbed into the skin pretty quickly but doesn't moisturize as much as I prefer.

Rusk Sheer Brilliance Smoothing and Shining Polisher
Monday, August 4, 2014
Product Description
Rusk Sheer Brilliance Polisher is a hair refiner and shiner that provides shine and maximum smoothness without adding weight or build-up. For use on all hair types. Contains pro-vitamin B5 and silk peptides to seal and protect overstressed, damaged hair.
I bought the 126ml product from Strawberrynet for $14 quite a while back but didn't like it enough to continue using it then. However I recently start using it when I permed my hair, wanting to bring some shine and smoothness to it.
I can't find much information on this brand, except that its hails from France but made in USA. It was strange when I first got it, because the first layer reminds me of alcohol and very cooling on the hair but does nothing.
The polisher has a gel texture, very thick and when I try to shake the bottle, the contents hardly move, mainly because its still full in the clear plastic bottle. Hence, I have no choice but to use up the alcohol-based layer, before the true contents are available to be depressed through the pump dispenser.
The pump dispenser is yet another problem. It works like those children's water bottle where you need to pull up the cap before sucking on it. In this polisher, you need to pull up the cap, before turning the bottle upside down and squeeze the contents out. Thereafter the cap doesn't seem to be able to be pulled down so there is forever a gap there and it leaks if you don't place the bottle up-right.
Sticky in texture, with a silicon feel, I usually work some of it into my hair ( after allowing some time for my John Master Sea Salt Spray to settle in my hair ) when my tresses are still damp after showering. It made my curls look slightly better, defined, smooth and soft. It provides a nice subtle shine without weighing the hair down.
A reminder to use it sparingly as too much may make your hair look slightly greasy.
Note that the ingredient list contains parabens and fragrance. The first 2 ingredients are silicon-based as well.
This product scored 3.9 from 29 reviewers on Makeupalley.

Review : John Masters Organics Sea Salt Spray With Lavender
Saturday, August 2, 2014
Product Description
Now every day can be a day at the beach. The natural sea salt in this unique spray gives hair the same extra body it has after a day at the ocean, while certified-organic lavender protects hair from drying. Safe for color-treated hair.
Key Ingredients :
Sea Salt - adds texture and volume
Lavender - normalizes scalp conditions and slows hair loss
Properties :
- sea salt adds texture and volume
- enhances curls
- lavender helps to protect the hair shaft
- can absorb oil between shampooing
At 13 pounds for 266ml, I bought it off ASOS a while back and only started using it after I had my hair permed. Some may baulk at the price because you can easily do it on your own, with sea salt and water, especially since the ingredients in this bottle are just so simple and easy, unlike Sunsilk Waves of Envy Sea Mist. But when you DIY, you just have to be patient to get the salt/water ratios correctly, or look for solutions online.
I absolutely hate how bulky the size is, especially I have to hold it and spray all over the back of my hair. I need something that is slim and portable, especially with my small hands. Because I tend to use it after my skincare application hence, the plastic brown bottle tends to be slippery in my hands with the emulsion remnants in my palms ( even though I have washed my hands ). The only logical thing to is, is to decant it to a smaller bottle.
I started off not liking this product because it hardly defines the curls. I find it almost useless. Thereafter, I try to tweak the way I use it. And this is how I use it daily, before work. I spray all over the hair ( little doesn't help, spray more generously ), when my hair is damp. ( it doesn't work that well when the hair is very wet, just need a couple of minutes for the hair to air dry slightly before using the product.) Thereafter, I just twist and leave it, before running my fingers lightly through my hair, apply Rusk Sheer Brilliance Smoothing and Shining Polisher and off I go.
This sea salt spray doesn't hold and define the curls that well and I need to top up with another product in order to enhance the holding power. Sometimes I end up with nice beachy curls, sometimes I don't. Its like a hit and miss for me.
Its not the most brilliant product and its expensive so its not something I would repurchase. The lavender scent is nice and soothing though. Note that the salt grains tend to pool at the area outside the cap.
The product scores 3.2 from 17 users on Makeupalley.

Aqua (water), sodium chloride (sea salt), lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil*
